A Gamer's Journey (Shenmue Documentary) goes to Kickstarter

Physical copies are exclusive to backers and it's sadly too late to become one, but digital copies will be available. I don't think there's a pre-order process for them yet though.

Hahaha I wish we were in Japan again. No, this is just Definitive Film going hard with their social media. Their documentary for the making of The Dark Crystal just released on Netflix to great success which is attracting more visitors to their page so they are pumping out content showing the world what they do!

This will be the best documentary of all time. The best documentary for the best games.

This is the 2nd most hyped thing for me this year.
 
Nooo, I missed the funding period... Now I'll never go down in the eternal shenmue history...
Well whatever... Looking forward to the film. I'll make all my friends watch it, so they'll understand why I'm not going out in November.
 
Well, like I said over on facebook: The cat is officially out of the cardboard box!

Our new trailer was premiered at the Golden Joystick Awards. I've been sitting on this for like 3 months and its been killing me, especially because so many of you have been asking for updates. We will be uploading a copy of the trailer to youtube and sharing on kickstarter etc but if you want to see it now you can view it here. Its already been shared online so you may have stumbled across it already (skip to 2:33:22)

This doesn't mean the film is done! We are still working away but I hope this gives you some insight into the kind of quality we are shooting for. This will hopefully just accelerate things further and maybe even attract new Shenmue fans to the film.

Such an amazing trailer and really cannot wait for the day that the blu-ray arrives at my door! I managed to catch it live and was blown away by the overall quality of things! Every time you show off more of your work, the more excited & impressed I am!

I've now seen that it's been uploaded to GamesRadar's Youtube channel, in which they have said in the description that it's now coming to Netflix.

Sigh, I feel sorry for these guys because some rude dickhead is screaming scam on the Kickstarter page. Before I backed Shenmue and the documentary, I had no idea people who pledge for things could act so entitled at the slightest misstep. Sigh.

ANYWAY, thanks so much for the update. Love it! Is it really coming to Netflix though?

No, I think it was just some miscommunication which sometimes happens. We didn't know Games Radar were going to be posting the trailer by itself but its resulting in so good exposure so can't complain!

Im OK with this rumour spreading if it means Netflix will be forced to pick it up after seeing the demand lol. Definite Film already has 2 of their docs on Netflix so a connection is there. Could be a possibility down the road?
 
I know you can’t give us a definitive date, but do you expect the documentary to release this year, or next?
