A Gamer's Journey (Shenmue Documentary) goes to Kickstarter

I know I don't log in here as much as I should but I just want to say thanks to everyone who tuned in and for the kind words. We didn't know how the live stream Q/A aspect of it would come across but it was really fun for us to do. The link will be up until around 7pm EST and then it will be removed so for those that couldn't watch live can still do so.

Thanks again for being so chill about keeping the link private in an age where information is so easy to share. We really appreciate that. Although I needed no convincing, Isaac, Randall, and Mark all see how awesome the Shenmue community is :blush:

I'll be posting a little thank you update on Kickstarter with some behind the scenes photos of the studio during last nights stream, ,as well as a few high-res stills from the rough cut. Keep an eye out for it!

So many thanks for the rough cut, was awesome to see and @Peter's accent is a beauty.

Like many, thanks for all the closeups of the GDC cards; theories abound now! :D

It was in the updates. July 31st I think. It's been taken down now.

Christ, they didn't give us long. I was thinking they would send out a reminder or a link closer to the event, so completely missed the fact the link was already in the original update.

I'm not going to be one of those people who whinges on the KS page, but I'm kinda annoyed it was so easy to miss this and as backer, the same as everyone else, I have missed out on this just because I wasn't quick enough and they didn't send out a reminder the day before or even just an hour or two before.

Edit: To clarify, I'm more annoyed at myself. It's life I guess.

We had it up for just over 24 hours after the stream ended to give people a chance to view it. You're right, though, a reminder would have been helpful....but I think our collective mindset was that we didn't want to drum up too much hype. It wasn't to be a grand reveal to the world but rather something just for the backers. The more reminders we sent out then the more possibilities there were for people to start sharing the link in various places. If it did start popping up all over the internet it will just make everything a lot more complicated for us and jeopardize our efforts.

Im bummed not everyone got to see it but unfortunately I cant make the call whether or not we are going to show it again.

We do have a film, though, and it will see the light of day eventually!

Yeah, as I said, I'm more annoyed with myself. I realise you did it as a goodwill thing due to backlash from certain backers (not me I must add!) I completely sympathise with the difficulties you have been encountering, especially with Covid on top of everything else and I'm grateful for all the work you guys have put into this project.

I'm annoyed I hadn't made a note of the date when I first saw the update. Sorry I was initially cross - it's been a bit of a crappy couple of weeks and I was looking forward to the stream. I completely understand your position and why you had to do it the way you did. It's my own fault.
 
To be fair, I totally forgot too and it wasn't until I saw the prompt on the top of the forum page that made me go "holy shit"! As it didn't finish until 12:30am, I was a grumpy sod in the morning, but such is life~!

This is what I love about this community. After the screening Faux Pop media has seen that we aren't a bunch of dicks, and didn't share the link when we knew it would be poor form. This has meant that they can happily make the link available for those backers that missed the screening window.

It just goes to show that - if we work together and are respectful - we can have nice things.
