A Gamer's Journey (Shenmue Documentary) goes to Kickstarter

Thank you for working so hard. I was unable to back the project, but I will buy a copy when it drops. Will the additional Shenmue 3 doc be available to normal customers, or is that backer exclusive? Also, will you be premiering the doc anywhere?

We have to wait until after August 27th. YsNet did us a huge solid by giving us what we need to create this and allowing us to talk to various creatives involved in the project, but we are still very much a separate entity with no official affiliation with their team. Because of this, we will be launching sometime after August 27th once Shenmue 3 has had a chance to do its thing in the public eye.

It would have been cool to have the doc act as some sort of hype builder leading up to the release of Shenmue 3 but thats not the case. Being able to play some sort of role in the promotion of Shenmue 3 would have been the dream. I think ultimately the films place in the whole Shenmue-sphere is to be something the fans can be proud of....something that reflects the long wait between Shenmue 2 and 3. And for the non-fans of the game perhaps it will finally answer the question "Why do these people love Shenmue and why the heck is it so special"
Ow!! I get it now. :) Thanks for your response.
Thank you for doing the docummentary, can't wait to see that!

They'll probably have to talk to YS Net/Sega for that to happen, but I think it would be cool to do so; like the 'mue Digest film (only better, of course lol).

If that is the case, I reckon it would be neat if they covered the time period to when the game is released - Shots of the game in on store shelves and commentary upon how the game is received upon release, an epilogue covering the aftermath of this big event!

Unfortunately that's where the bottomless pit mentality comes in. Where does it stop? Wait until after the games release to see reactions, but then Shenmue 4 gets announced. Gotta follow the development of that. Wait, lets cover the release.... It could go on and on. There needs to be a stopping point otherwise this wouldn't see the light of day for years to come.

Pretty much took the words out of my mouth haha

if Shenmue IV was announced I wouldn't imagine that I would be any time soon within the release of Shemue III - I can't see it being teased in the ending with a post credit clip :p I imagine there will be quite a gap after the release of S3 and news on S4 - I can't see it being announced at Magic next year, though I'd love to be proven wrong :p

I see the event of Shemue III as it's own thing, the comeback from Kickstarter, the development and Magic teases to the final release when we finally get our mits on it! But like many here, I'll take anything and look forward to the insight the documentary offers among other backers :)

Im confident it will be as it will be leftover copies from whatever bulk order we end up placing. Im not sure how it works exactly but we probably can't buy the exact amount of copies....so there will no doubt be a lot left over for people who missed out.

Also, the extra doc will be a short one (nowhere near a 90 minute feature) so that may end up online at some point for the public. I'd like to try and make it somewhere between 20-25 minutes...so it would perfect to upload on youtube at some point.

I also was unable to back this and would like to purchase copy. From where will we be able to get this online?

Knowing Yu Suzuki, we may have seen Shenmue IV images and not realized it yet. :)

I know what its like, as I got married last September and I'm Italian too (our weddings are horrific for planning... even though the day itself is awesome).

No problem though, Adam, we trust in you guys!

And thanks Switch!

I was thinking the other day this will probably be delayed and will cover the aftermath of Shenmue 3's release. It makes sense and I think it would be cool to do personally. It would just complete things nicely ?

So, if you do decide to do that, Adam, I'm personally ok with it. Glad to hear things are going well either way.

Yeah, we had crappy weather for the second half of Sunday and yesterday sucked all around, so hard to enjoy the long weekend unless you were stuck inside all day (which we were, thankfully).

Take your time boys, put out your best product and don't worry about deadlines!

I understand independent made movies take time, even more so than studio backed films, so I am aware that the process you guys go through is very thrrough and tough and know you will all pull thorugh
