General RGG Discussion

Controversial thing to say, but at this point, I wouldn't mind if it died and then maybe they could move onto something brand new.
If this rumor is true, I'm of a similar mind.
While I don't think it to be a fated result, I really hope RGG doesn't fall into the trap that we've seen with Sonic Team: once Naka leaves, the crew-- though possessing genuine talent-- lose a sense of guiding vision. They stick to what is said (by higher ups) to work, and they become stagnant. Creativity suffers.
I agree with some who've said it'd be nice for Sonic Team to be able to take a break, truly refresh (the fans have to wait a long time between games, anyway), and then return to the series with new ideas.

It surely helps that the RGG franchise now has two concurrent projects-- a little variety is nice both for developers and fans-- but Sega has this tendency to wring the rag dry. It appears that Sega's (understandably) afraid to try new IPs, but I suspect they may start to pump these out for cash flow, esp. if Nagoshi's not there to provide some originality. (It seems that, unlike some franchises, he's particularly involved in keeping things from stagnating.)

Honestly, at this point, all I want is a remaster of Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin. Or maybe one where Kiryu takes the role of Hattori Hanzo or Ishikawa Goemon in the Sengoku Era. If SEGA is simply going to rely on this intellectual property that has proven to be successful then a remaster of Ishin should not be too much to ask for.

While I will buy Lost Judgement, I am growing weary of the series overall. Keep in mind, I started playing this series with Ryu Ga Gotoku III on the Playstation III. There are only so many times I can play the same game with slightly different variations.

The old Japanese "one employer for life" careers seem to become rarer These days. Yu and Naka have left Sega years ago, Kojima has left Konami, Ueda has left Sony. Also didnt one of the senior directors of the FF series leave Square Enix?

As sad as it would be, I couldn't blame Nagoshi for wanting to see something different after spending what, 30 years, at Sega. Especially now since at his age, he is sort of approaching the last 10 years of his career.

Unfortunately RGG Studio is "doomed" to make only Yakuza games (and their re-skin), just like Sonic Team can't do anything else apart Sonic.

Probably even Nagoshi has had enough of his creature after 16 years or recycling, and he want to do something new.
But it's funny how he is (was) one of the bosses in Sega, the one who decides what games are greenlighted, and despite this, even with all his freedom, in all this time he wasn't able to even conceive a new game that has a different formula from Yakuza (for him, Judgment was a totally different thing and a fresh new IP, LOOOOOOOL please... ).

He wasn't able to deliver even a brand new Monkey Ball games (only hd remasters).

Maybe Nagoshi leaving could be positive and help Sega return a bit to its former self and be a little more free from Yakuza. Who knows, if that's the case, I would help him to prepare his bags lol

- Daytona (along with YS)
- Scud Race
- Monkey Ball
- RGG
- Spikeout
- Planet Harriers (all pre-RGG Studio)
- Binary Domain
- RGG Online
- VF 5, completely revamped, from the ground up

The man's been involved with a shit-ton of games and IPS throughout the years and has been a producer/supervisor on a ton more since 2010 or so. He's been with the company for 30 years and is one of the 3 legends (along with Naka and Suzuki) and that's even with legendary people of the past, Kodama, Ohshima, Mizuguchi, etc.

The quality of almost every single game he's been involved with is super-high and it was proven (with my links from Japanese media outlets, etc.) that the titles sold a ton (unlike your data which was blank/linked to hearsay, blog posts/gossip columns), whether RGG or not, so the guy has made Sega a bunch of money for decades.

I don't know why you have a hard-on for Nagosh or what he did to you personally, but... Criticism is always valid and people don't have to like everyone/thing, but the amount of inflammatory and vitriolic shit you spew about this series and the man is borderline obsessive

Compare that list to most other Japanese developers'. I doubt you'd find more than a handful who've worked on more IPs than Nagoshi. At this point in his career (he's 60, right?) it's a miracle he's worked on more than one or two games in the past decade. Just look at YS... Hell, look at Kojima, everyone's idol. You're bashing Nagoshi in isolation. Most devs don't get to work on multiple IPs, especially not at a company like Sega.

Sega churns out games because their other games don't sell and investing in new IPs is extremely risky. Why's that so hard to accept? It's not 1990.

Nagoshi didn't worked on VF5US.

Sega was one of the most creative varied companies around until 2005, after that it was transformed in a Yakuza factory, and now they they can't produce even a simple remaster of VF5 without the help of RGG Studio (this speak volume about the pauperization of other Sega teams like AM2 under Nagoshi's reign).

I'm not criticizing Nagoshi's games, I'm criticizing his mismanagement of Sega, that caused a real damage in productive and creative capacity of all teams outside RGG Studio.

The sales data I posted some years ago could be used as a wiki, there isn't better data than the original source, and be more respectful of my research since it cost me some time, and I posted it here for everyone to stop misinformation.

and I don't know why you have a grudge with me (lol at the angry icon, seriously), but it's your problem.

lol I have no problems; I just fail to see why you can't recognise the guy for his great contributions and he hasn't mismanaged anything.

Furthermore, he was a producer of VF5 so yes, he was involved.

Stop it.

Why it's so difficult for you to separate Nagoshi the game designer from Nagoshi the CCO?
As a game designer he was brilliant in the '90, as Sega CCO he was a plague, he did a poor job in diversification of the business while using his position for personal gains, only to greenlight his own games and grow only his team, leaving crumbles to the rest of company.

Do you think it's a case if he was demoted from CCO to a newly created "creative director", a symbolic position?

Nope Nagoshi wasn't a producer in VF5US, read the credits, stop with your misinformations.

You're a riot:

1. One and the same person. Next question.
2. lol wow, you REALLY have a lot going on in your head. Do you work at Sega? Are you an employee of the video game industry? Are you a business/financial analyst that specialises in the VG industry? If you aren't (and you aren't), then you really have 0 evidence or credbility; just because the IPs that were created/developed were not what YOU wanted to see, doesn't mean that that's reality.
3. "Leaving crumbles for the rest of the company." #1, It's, "crumbs," not crumbles. #2, Atlus is doing pretty damn-well with Persona and SMT, Border Break has been gargantuan in Japan, with AM2 and PSO2 has been one of the biggest MMO games in the East (if not the biggest. Those are just 3 examples and I think the rest of these dev teams are doing pretty damn well, if they're, "getting crumbles."
4. He wasn't demoted, he stepped down. Find me evidence of a demotion (you can't).
5. Oh really?

Sorry, he wasn't a producer, he was the Creative Director.

I'm not discussing this any further with you; your inability to call this down the middle and remove your inherent bias, is causing each of our interactions to go in circles and become flamefests, full of misinformation (except it's on your end, not mine).

The only correct thing in all your post is "crumbs", and when people start to attack other's typos, it means their argument are weak.

Unfortunately all your posts are plagued by a level of superficiality that's hard to tolerate: you mix success with devopment costs, you clearly lack base knowledge about industry and Sega and fail to see what's happening, let alone seeing the big picture.etc.

You can't even separate a discussion, Nagoshi had multiple management roles inside the company, so why we should judge him only as "the creator of Yakuza"?
Your line of thinking is pretty basics: "Yakuza is good = all Nagoshi's doings are good", really...

Don't assume too much about other's people occupations
Instead try to answer these:

-Why Am2 wasn't able to make a simple REMASTER of VF5 on its own (let alone a new VF) without RGG help?
-Why all Sega teams outside RGG Studio, must work on tight budget and limited resources, Sonic Team included?
-if Nagoshi really stepped down for health reason, why is now looking for the same position and an even more stressful job in another company?

Are you kidding? I just mentioned the "creative director" in my previous post, do you even know what kind of role is or like everything else you only stopped at the surface level?

It's a not a matter of being angry or something (at least not on my side), but more truck unwillingness to accept any criticism toward Nagoshi and Yakuza, and this unfortunately didn't changed over the years.

Hoping my Gamestop pre order steelbook will be separate item in addition to standard case like Best Buy did for Shenmue 3.

Gonna have to buy a standard Judgment 2 during a sale later if it is mismatched and odd looking on my physical shelf :D

Sadly it seems like no one here in Germany or Austria is offering a steelbook version.
Theres also no steelbook version on Amazon Japan i think.
So it is actually a specific US shop only thing?

Also another kind of weird thing, the game is rated 16+ in Germany
which means this is the very first game in this whole Yakuza universe series
that is not rated 18+. Its still PEGI 18 tho.
The game received a R18 rating in Australia instead of M and its still M rated in the US.
So i wonder why it got 'downgraded' here.

I still don't know if they'll have it at the EB Games(eses lol) here in Canada. I haven't pre-ordered yet anyways, but I will once my second September paycheque rolls around (the 17th).

it would be my first steelbook, so I like the mismatch ;)

Lots of goodies, this may actually be the first non-'mue III DLC I purchase, especially if there are trophies to be had :D

Ok, I'll put my purchase off for a year or so and see auf they'll release a (physical) complete edition. Capcom did the same thing with SF5.
