I was wondering, instead of another tweetathon on the 4th or whatever... what if all Shenmue fans decided to buy a copy of Shenmue 3 on the 4th of each month?
It would be more meaningful than a simple twitter campaign because we'd be putting our money where our mouths are and maintain steady sales of S3.
Would this be a practical idea.... everyone buys Shenmue 3 on the 4th of every month?
I got the kick starter edition, the Limited Run collectors edition, and the Steal Book case from Best Buy, I have also purchased the HD collection of Shenmue 1 and 2 about seven times to give away as gifts. As a Fan I'm spent for now, I cant see myself buying another copy every month. but at least I can say I played my part in trying to secure a Shenmue 4.
The best thing in my opinion is what The Hero Spot said
I thinI what we should do to help get Shenmue IV is get some of the bigger Shenmue youtubers or accounts to make videos on it, talk about the news so far (like the ign japan interview or unreal engine 5 interview with Yu Suzuki) Just anything that can help our voices be heard and let people know there’s a demand
We just need to get other people to play it, buy it, and talk about it.
Because their is a big difference between 100-1000 fans each buying 10 or even a 100 copies each, and a million people each buying one copy.
I do like the idea of supporting the game with our wallets, So combing both ideas could mean starting something like "Introduce a Friend to Shenmue Day" where it could be an annual tradition for the community with the simple goal of gifting any version of Shenmue to a friend and getting hype built for Shenmue as a whole since that is our best bet at getting shenmue 4.
A lot of days could work like September 9th since it was the day the Dreamcast came out
Or even better we could pick a birthday from a character in the game like Izumi Takano from the Tomato Convenience Store. Since she is optional, not every player encounters her but those who do remember her. Making her the definition of why each player of Shenmue has their own unique experience going through the game, bonus also being the fact that not everyone who meets her even knows that you can also fight her. Izumi could be the poster child for this new day and I could see a lot of people talking about Shenmue if this idea takes off.
"Introduce a Friend to Shenmue day" could do a lot since it would give Youtubers, game journalists and others something to talk about and report on, and I can see a lot of people posting Happy Shenmue day with fan art of Izumi an obscure, optional, but incredibly Memorable character from Shenmue each year on October 4th
