Japanese Music

Probably a little bit predictable, but I always had a soft spot for X Japan. Saying that, I think last year? I watched the documentary about them that had been released "We Are X" and found it really interesting. They've sure been through a heck of a lot as a band, and the documentary only made me appreciate them that much more.

Then on the complete other side I have another soft spot for Sekai No Owari. I think, because I really liked their music videos and then before I knew it I was humming some of their songs at work.

I had Spotify to thank for finding these guys as well. Another happy accident, but I'm sure teenage me would have loved them and their fast punky tunes.

I think I'll stop now though because this could go on forever.

Jazz fusion band in general but several songs contain rock/metal elements :

I've been aware of Sheena Ringo for quite some time and even enjoyed a few of her songs, but recently something really clicked and now I'm a full on believer. I have so much to say about her music right now that I don't know where to start so I'm just gonna post my current favorite performance of hers.

Can't believe I hadn't discovered this one sooner. So far everything I've heard from this group is Shibuya at its best. Highly recommend them if you're into that 90s Shibuya sound. When Japan finally gets casinos this is the kind of song I imagine all the Tokyo high rollers listening to when they pull up to the building.

As a bonus one of the vocal melodies in this song kinda reminds me of one from Shenmue. I wanna say Departure on a Journey.?

Maximum the Hormone - I've always had a soft spot for these guys. Maybe it's the fact that they remind me a little of SOAD (although not entirely; they are very much their own thing). Nothing about these guys (and girl) should work, but it does. At least to my ears.

QP-Crazy --Japanese Hardcore Punk Band. Like 'em quite a bit.

9MM Parabellum Bullet -- not bad.

Asian Kung Fu Generation -- I first heard Loop and Loop in the first Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan DS game and kind of fell in love with them.

Blood Stain Child -- Japanese Melodic Death Metal. Not bad. Not bad at all.

I just found out about Doopees and they are so awesomely weird.

"I would like to introduce a little bit of our album: doopee na doopee na doopee na doopee time" :ROFLMAO:

Though they terrify me, @Rakim, I approve. I think you and I have some overlaps in the Japanese tunes we appreciate. Keep 'em coming, please!

For tonight's installment, an all time favorite.

Some groovy, psychedelic, shibuya love. The music was done by Oyamada Keigo from Flipper's Guitar so you know it goes hard. Her music is honestly hit or miss for me, and the way she sings can be a put off to some, but everything comes together wonderfully on this one. There's a really nice floaty atmosphere to it so I find it easy to listen to several times in a row.

Last night I dreamed that I could fly ♬

I've been listening to these guys (and girl) lately....pretty good...not too bad at all.

I love a lot of the Low-fi and Chillhop scene that exploded after Nujabes/Tsuchie & JP underground hip-hop Crews made it mainstream.

Sublime Musical Story-telling but deep and meditative as well.

Just a few from my Recc list:

(A Homage to the same setting of Shenmue I?)

I got plenty more favorites too that I'll post in spades. Or just quote me to share some of your own personal fav and I'd love to check em out. :giggle:

YOU ARE SO CUTE NICE FACE COME ON YEAH!

This is hilarious and I could see them getting popular in America.

Here are a couple of favorites that came out this year:

Now for something a little different.
