So in a Japanese review of Shenmue 3 from IGN Japan (of which I had Google translate it so I could read), I couldn't help but notice all kinds of changes in the names & places:

Like the name of the village being called Shiraka, Ryo's last name being "Batsuki", Lan Di being referred to as Ai Tei & being described as a "Kempo artist", and calling part of Guilin "Torimai".
and more.

But I find it odd that I've never heard of any of these names, ever, in the last 20 years of being a Shenmue dork.

I thought maybe the article was mistranslated perhaps, but everything else in the article is translated very well, and some of these names are repeated throughout the article, like "Batsuki" & "Shiraka Villaige".

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Are these actually the names in Japan?

Batsuki is the most unjapanese name I have ever heard. Sounds like bad auto auto translation to me.

I'm assuming auto translation works with some languages just fine, but Japanese is just too unique to work for auto translation.
