Hey, I’m Dan. I am a late comer to the Shenmue - I only started playing the first game around a month ago. Funnily enough, I had bought the two HD/remastered games not long after they came out in 2018 but as I say, I only got around to playing them about 4 weeks ago. I’m so glad I started playing the games because it didn’t take too long until I would become fully immersed into the world of Ryo Hazuki. I’ve now completed all three games and look forward to a fourth game. I feel fortunate I wasn’t waiting 18 years for a new game! Hopefully we get Shenmue 4 a lot sooner than that.

I do have some observations and opinions about the three games already, so it seemed perfect to join a forum and discuss with like minded individuals. I will post those observations and views when I’ve got it all properly typed up. Thanks again 😃

Huge fan of them, though more so their singles and not full albums (outside of Aja, which is a masterclass in album-making).

While Becker is a virtuoso and a half like Fagen, Fagen is just on another level of musicianship and writing; there are few modern-day musicians like him (Pete Townshend is someone I place on his level).

Anyways, I digress; this is an awesome community and I hope you enjoy talking 'mue with us! :D

Really happy to hear that you are a fellow fan of ''The Dan''. As far as albums go, I love their full ones and the only one I think that is slightly weak is Pretzel Logic. It felt like it could have been better and I was never a fan of them including a song that wasn't theirs. The band for me was so original in their style that I was disappointed that they (in my view) wasted a song slot by including a cover of Duke Ellington/Bubber Miley's ''East St. Louis Toodle-Oo'' and a few of their other songs in that one didn't hit the heights either but the title track is brilliant. Interestingly, I see a lot of fans calling Pretzel Logic their favourite SD album of them all, but it just shows you how opinions differ.

Aja, as you say is a masterclass. I get goosebumps now thinking they made magic like that. That felt like the zenith of the group but they have produced so many good songs and albums that we are all spoilt. Deacon Blues from Aja is actually my favourite song of theirs.

Very nice words about Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. I assume you may already have, but if you haven't, then I recommend checking out Walter Becker's solo album ''11 tracks of whack''. It would appear that WB is the one that contributed the most to the ''darker'' lyrics of Steely Dan when I compare 11TOW to Fagen's Nightfly album.

My partner got it for my birthday with the wonderful kickstarter sleeve a while ago, I am planning on starting that today. Super excited!

I was on the original forum under the username Wuyreng Ren. Not sure many will remember me. I have spoken to @Miles Prower before because of his shenmue profile guides translation thing he did. Which was amazing. Not sure many will remember me. But, I am back as Tentei. I am so shocked no one here has taken that name like ever. I feel honored. lol
