Oil Painting my father in law made of Ryo & Shenhua

My father in law from Bogota Colombia has been working on this project the last few weeks. To give some backgrouns, my father in law is an artist, he is also a hobbyist and teacher of Chess and a mathematician. He has painted this out of love despite not having prior knowledge of Shenmue. I have been gradually teaching him about the characters. My father in law also happens to be intrigued and fascinated with Chinese culture.

The painting started off as a sketch using matches on canvas which became an oil painting and has slowly evolved. The work is still in process, I will continue adding timeline updates. As this is a work in process, new details are continuing to be added.

The picture also depicts a real background of Guilin as well as historic Chinese architecture for comparison in areas of rural China.

The painting is complete. It's very hard to capture the contrast, detail compressed from a phone camera so it doesn't do justice but I tried my best to get some close up's as well.
