Every year Shenmue 3 material is shown at the event (and even at events it had no chance of being at), there are tons of angry fans upset that they didn't find the material shown off as substantial as they'd hoped for, and then find themselves expressing their disappointment by directing vitriol at the games Co-producer and company, Cedric and Shibuya Productions, as well as at the kickstarter, despite the fact neither of these parties ever promise fans anything completely surprising in the first place.

Now, we all know Gamescon is coming up, and as far as I know, neither Shenmue 3, Shibuya Productions, or Yu Suzuki said they'll attend the event, much less show off the game. If they are there, let it be a pleasant surprise, and let us take what we get and not throw a fit, unless it somehow comes out that the game is in development hell and is barely a prototype, which, let's be real, is not happening, we should all keep calm and restrain our composure.

On the other hand, you may be thinking "Well, they promised that 2018 would be the year of promotion for Shenmue 3!" Which, is true, I admit but consider this:

1. That was before it was officially delayed into 2019.

2. Updates have been a lot more regularly recently.

3. We recently got a glimpse into what actual gameplay of the games combat looks like, as well as a short snippet of how voice acting, and animations might look like and would and be implemented .

4. The year isn't over.

So, please, let us not act like entitled snots and expect things that we never promised to us.

Thank you.

Yeah, part of me really appreciates that updates are far more frequent (and substantial) now.

At the same time though, I completely understand and empathise with people's frustrations. I won't lie, I will be very disappointed if we don't get anything at Gamescom. If we're to believe that Shenmue 3 is really coming out next year, then we need to see gameplay and a trailer soon.

I keep it very cool and don't expect anything right now. Everything will be a pleaseant surprise then.
But I guess they are close to actually showing us some gameplay so it could also be any time.

For me I'd love for something to be shown at Gamescom but if not we've still got PSX in December for example.

I'm however confident something will surface soon.

Gamescom would be a good choice to show something. If they don't show anything it wouldn't bother me, I waited so long for Shenmue 3 I can easily go a bit longer without seeing a new trailer or something

Uh... Cedric confirmed Shenmue 3 is going to be at Gamescom this year for sure on Twitter when asked about E3 2018. There will definitely be new content being shown regarding the game. They skipped E3 for a reason.

Whichever event they do decide to attend (Gamescom, TGS, PSX), I wonder if they will also offer us a concrete release date at the same time?

50/50 on that. It would be great if they did but I'm not expecting it just yet.

Not sure PSX is happening at all. As noted earlier, TGS isn't the biggest market to cater, though maybe out of convenience for YSnet. So I won't be surprised if no Gamescomm, or even TGS. Perhaps early next year?

As far as I've read, the only thing Cedric Biscay said for sure is that he will personally be at Gamescom. Anything else that's being speculated about at this point is pure imagination. Remember how upset people were about the images shown at Magic? Keep your expectations based on what we know.

This is exactly my point. People were calling Credric a liar and everything. Just pure hatred because they thought they were getting something no one promised to show them. We need to be better than that.

I can see it both ways. I can wait another few months, as most of us have already waited since 2003 at the latest (last Shenmue II releases). But I also think they should at least throw a few small bones our way. After two delays, several Awesome Japan mishaps early on in the project's life, and a lot of media writing clickbaity articles to lambast the game, you'd think we would have seen more by now. But I do trust Yu Suzuki, and I think this game will be brilliant, and well worth the wait in the end. I am just concerned that they seem to be dodging every huge opportunity they have to show the game off to a large audience.

He said he will be there, not Shenmue 3. And what Cedric says at any given time will probably be true at the point he says it, but plans can change, schedules can change and delays can happen.

Yeah, the date for PSX last year was announced during E3 and they haven't said anything about it yet this year. I feel like they might not have enough material to even have a PSX this year. Last year there were multiple booths for large first party titles that were just exhibits to take pictures of with no actual game to play at all: God of War, Spiderman and Days Gone all had booths in 3 separate corners of the show with nothing but elaborate stuff to take pictures of. Detroit was the only major release for this year that I remember being playable. Most of the rest of their big titles are all releasing this year, leaving not much first party stuff for Sony to use the event to show. They'll probably announce at least 1 first party title at Gamescom or Paris Games week this year, but they're probably already secretly working on stuff for PS5 in 2020. Now, in 2016 PSX wasn't announced until the end of September, so it's still possible they're having it this year but taking longer to announce for some reason.

Isn't Cedric working on a separate MAGIC event for Kyoto in October this year, or is that not happening until next year? The MAGIC Kyoto account has no tweets on it, but if was happening this year I could see it as a possible place for more news.

Deep Silver had a booth at PSX last year to promote Kingdom Come Deliverance, and I'm pretty sure I pissed off the Deep Silver rep working the booth (Will) by talking to him about Shenmue instead of the game he was there to promote. Having said that, if the game is far enough along in December I could see them wanting to have a booth for it this year. The Kingdom Come booth last year was pretty reasonably sized with I think 4 demo stations and a couple guys dressed up as Knights walking around the booth, so they put some money into that. If a trailer drops at Gamescom and PSX ends up happening with Deep Silver listed as a booth, I would probably make the trip out there for the 3rd year in a row. Right now there are no other 2019 games that I'd want to visit PSX to play, but that could change.

I excpet nothing on gamescom. That is easier than to over-hype now for something which is not confirmed yet. Cedric Biscay can be on gamescom, but he could mean that gamescom is nearer for him and he could do a little visit to talk with developers. I would love it to see something Shenmue-3-related, but it's not safe right now.

They have more than enough material to show, the game must be in a very advanced level but this doesn't mean they will show it off in every event. They'll take it to an event when they decide it's their moment and the right time.

In my opinion, it's about time to release a trailer and show how's the gameplay, we don't know too much of the game after all these years.
Gameplay? How does baisha look? game interface? Ren? Niao Sun? Lan di? minigames? wheather? We didn't see "anything".

BTW, my phone keeps auto-correcting gamescom to "gamescon" or hand-to-hand", which makes no flipping sense. So that is why its mislabeled.

I think with Shenmue 1 and 2 collection releasing on the same day of Gamescom it makes alot of sense to show Shenmue III with a brand new trailer and maybe a demo of how it plays.
