PSA: Don't Throw a Fit If S3 is a Gamescom No-Show

YSnet, Deep Silver, and Shibuya Productions are not involved with S1 and S2 re-releases. They have nothing to do with that collection so it is irrelevant if SEGA shows them off there.

I think we are now at a stage where the promotion and marketing for Shenmue 3 will now take the path that more conventional games do so. Last year, Deep silver had just come on board as Gamescom was taking place. When last years event was announced via the Kickstarter page, it was done through Awesome Japan under the advice of YSNET themselves. Now its a year later, with Deep Silver handling all public appearances, promotion and marketing, I wasn't expecting any announcement like the one we seen last year.

If there was an announcement to the public, that would mean something is planned to take place with the public, ie. a meet and greet like last year. That wasn't even part of the plan last year, and had to be put together last minute due to the amount of people who immediately bought accommodation and flights to Germany.

When YSNET go to these events, it will solely consist of business meetings and journalist interviews. That's it. That's just the way it works. If YSNET are going to Gamescom this year, it will be for behind closed doors meetings only, so there's no need to announce it to the general public at all. If they do go, then the chances of seeing something online are increased. Journalists and things will be shown new footage in their meeting, so that usually gets released to the general public.

But, since there hasn't been no public confirmation YSNET will be attending Gamescom at this point, we all have no choice but to wait.

If Shenmue 3 is a no show at gamescom then me and I think many other Shenmue fans will be pissed. There should be no reason why we should see nothing at all. They skipped E3 for a reason and now it feels like the game needs to be shown. It will be bad for everyone if they keep us waiting longer. Now I'm not saying I expect there to be a huge trailer, gameplay etc of Shenmue III to be shown at gamescom but if other games coming out next year have shown that content, then shouldn't we?

Just wanna see some gameplay, not expecting a release date or huge trailer. Maybe they wanna surprise us but all we can do is wait and see.

I'm not going to be pissed because I know trailers take a lot of time and resources and because I don't want them to show subpar footage that gets them laughed at all over the internet. I hope they take their time and show their best attempt at the 'finished' product when it's ready.

@adom11800 As I said its not their fault you're gonna be pissed about something they've never promised to show. If they come out promising the sun, sure be upset when all you get is a light breeze but until they do so you have reason to complain. Typically open world games take 5 years to develop, Shenmue 3 started in 2015. They've been going at an amazing pace as is far so it is a bit unfair to complain about something that was never suggested you were getting.

While you are 100% correct, to be fair, they did heavily imply something would be at gamescom...

As I said, I'm not expecting a huge trailer but at least something needs to be shown because it would be good for the fans as well as YS net and Deep Silver for the game's promotion. The game is meant to be due out next year so it's not going to take five years to make.

Cedric hinted that it could be at gamesom but he never said we was going to see a lot. You seem like a very patient person and that's good but I just find it strange you think fans should think we won't see Shenmue 3 at gamesom.

No they didn't. Credic mentioned he was going to be there, that's it. He said nothing about YS Net, Shibuya Productions or Shenmue 3 attending.

Personally, I think it is critical to make a public trade show appearance before release. They need to leave a better taste in the mouths of non Dojo fans than the teaser did, and also to make a general wave with everyone before release. For a game with as much weight as Shenmue III has, it's gotten hardly any publicity.

If Yu doesn't want to spoil too much then hopefully he can show the game without spoiling too much. Depending on when the game is out next year, it really needs to start being shown now.

i mean, i wont get mad or anything if they dont show something at Gamescom. if they are not ready, then they should wait.
but on the other hand - it would be nice to see something.

all of the things we saw until now, were just placeholders and work in progress things.
even the animations and looks of faces changed from footage to footage
so it would be nice to see how it looks right now. are the face sculpts finished or are they gonna tweak those thing until 2019?
how does the world look like, can you interact with every npc, how does the interface look, how does the fighting system work,
does it feel like Shenmue while walking around, ...

we have a lot of text descriptions and work in progress scenes but i want to see the real game.
i can wait for a real trailer with gameplay footage and everything, no problem,
but please stop with the alpha/beta/work in progress teaser stuff.

i wont get mad if they dont show anything until the beginning of 2019
but i will get a bit upset, if they continue with the "have a look but remember, thats not finished at all" attempt.

I would definitely advise people to keep their expectations in check when it comes to Gamescom.

If we get news, wooo. If not, its not the end of the world and development still looks to be powering through to bring us the game as soon as possible.

Again, I think the game will be overly awesome. I'm just worried about the negative views of casual gamers and stupid gaming "news"...which as much as it sucks, may be turned off by the lack of exposure.

Nothing new, though. Been like that since 2000 with the US release of Shenmue. Game journalism wasn't nearly as trite then, but even still plenty of americans simply didn't get it then and don't now. Shenmue will always be a polarizing game. Too truly unique and experimental and creative of an experience.

Who cares? Shenmue haters are going to always hate it, no matter what. Even if it looked like a next gen PS5 game they would still say it sucks, because they don't think the idea of a Shenmue game is interesting or fun. So let them complain, the kick starter wasn't for them. They aren't going to affect the games sales either because they were never going to buy it in the first place.
