Random Gaming Thoughts

Maybe this is a PS4 issue but I hate it when games tell you to "Press any button" on the title screen.

I mean, I don't really play on other platforms and the PS4's start button is called "options" so I get that "Press options button" would sound kind of stupid, but any button? I don't know. Maybe on Switch or Xbone it's different but I hate the fact that I can even start the game by pressing L1, R3 or square. It just doesn't seem right to me.

I kind of grew out of gaming after the PS2/Dreamcast era for about 10 years and S3 got me back into it but it always used to be "Here's the title of the game you're about to play, now press the start button to start the game". Why would anybody press triangle?

Anyone prefer Sonic Heroes to Sonic Adventure 2?

Still think Adventure was the best, there was something about 2 I didn't like, maybe the comic sans font or how it just seemed somehow different to SA. Never got too much into it compared to SA.

They should just get rid of those title screens. I hope most game adopt a quick launch similar to GTA that simply starts the game.

Two of my favorite bands, so I agree wholeheartedly with this. Though they eventually did with the SEGA Forever release.

Ah did they? Good to know! It isn't Crazy Taxi without The Offspring or Bad Religion (and I agree, they're great bands!)

I always used to misunderstand the lyrics in Crazy Taxi back in the day. I always thought it was "L. A. Guuuuuuns..." and "Tweeeeenty-tweeeenty ten!"

And I thought that it was extremely weird that a band would make a song about an obscure 80s rock band which was only semi-famous because Axl Rose (or was it Slash?) was in that band before he formed Guns n Roses.

And what the fuck was 20, 20, 10 supposed to mean? Years later, I found out the real names of those songs were "Them and Us" and "10 in 2010". But still to this day I always sing "L. A. Guuuuuuns" and "Tweeeeeenty-tweeeenty ten" whenever I play Crazy Taxi.

I always thought the offspring song "that's all i want" was actually "it's all out war"

A classmate of mine in high school always thought it was "Sarajevo". :ROFLMAO: He might have mistaken it for a song about the Yugoslavian civil war or something like that. Maybe he had listened to Guns n Roses before (Civil War). :p

I never listened to the lyrics in "All I Want", never even tried to understand them. I always called it the "Ja, ja, ja, ja, ja - Song".

Welp I finally "finished" Shining Resonance (there's still a shitload left to do + resonance story) and have to say it's actually alright. The story and dialogue is absolutely fucking dreadful even by the most generic of JRPG standards, but the gameplay does pick up and find its own niche. I went in wanting a Sega Ys, but that's just not what it is, and once I fully accepted that I began to enjoy it more. Gun girl became my favorite to play as, made armor girl my waifu (trumpet girl is cute but kind of a hussy so had to pass on that), enjoyed some good grafx and music, etc.

Also the part in chapter 7 where you're forced to use two specific party members and ONLY two specific party members out of nowhere to progress the story was bullshit. I literally never used those two after trying them out intially, so they were still at the same level that I got them: Level 15 and 37. When all the enemies I was supposed to face were like level 70... had to spend several hours grinding out of that. 😭

i completed doom eternal on ps4. i would give it a solid 8.5/10

very fun and long first person shooter. i really like the way they introduce an enemy as a boss, which takes all your effort to defeat..making you almost you want to pull your hair out lol...then they introduce that enemy on a regular basis through out the game

the weapons are pretty cool, same with the glory kills. ID / Bethesda know what they are doing.
+ jumping from location to location is pretty nuts, quite often you dont think you can jump that far.

some of the bad points..

the game has a story but its completely lacking up until about half way through the game. it would of been a solid 10/10 game if they added a intro, a story recap (2016 doom) etc.. even if it was just a animation.. but as it is, the game is very much reminiscent of serious sam, just a fun shooter, which is not a bad thing.

the graphics a little low res on the standard ps4. as long as you dont stand still for too long, you dont notice it too much but the first hour of the game didn't look good for me.

lastly the upgrading your weapons wasnt that clear. i ended up with 50+ tokens towards the end of the game before i realize how to use them. lol

I think I've asked this before, but is Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 required (storywise) before 4? Or can I just go straight from 1 to 4? Does 4 spoil the events of 2 and/or 3? It's frustrating that Sega still hasn't ported 2 and 3 to home platforms, nor given 3 an official localization at all.

This whole debacle with The Last of Us 2 not going digital only really is a reminder just how important retail partnerships still are.

I love how fans think it's just as easy for Sony to flip the digital switch. I'm sure in an ideal world they would LOVE to release it digitally only (considering it benefits them far greater in the long run), but it just ain't that easy considering retail partnerships. They still need those partnerships, especially when they're on the verge of releasing PS5 (maybe this year? maybe?)

I just love how fans think it's as easy as flipping the digital switch and that's that.

Part of why I still think physical is nowhere near out the door. People love to take this covid business as an opportunity to gloat that digital is outright better but this is really only temporary. Same kind of thing with people wanting socialism and not understanding that this is not meant to be long term. Certainly not as short as some might want but it’s not sustainable over an indefinite amount of time. I would not want any of the big three to have that much control over the market as it is, without retailers to compete with.

I don't quite get it though. Physical sales are still a thing? Other games are still being released... Most people buy games online anyways, hence why GAME, EB Games, Gamestop and all the other big juggernauts are slowly dying (edit: and you can still order online from those stores anyways...).

Also, here, Supermarkets sell video games and obviously they're open.
