Random Gaming Thoughts

I don't quite get it though. Physical sales are still a thing? Other games are still being released... Most people buy games online anyways, hence why GAME, EB Games, Gamestop and all the other big juggernauts are slowly dying (edit: and you can still order online from those stores anyways...).

Also, here, Supermarkets sell video games and obviously they're open.
It's interesting given you can still, as you say, get games one way or another. Certainly here in the UK.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but I suspect they felt they could use the time to squash any other issues in the game and make for a smoother release once distribution and production is back to normal?

Yeah, exactly. It's not a huge deal to me, as - despite the first Last of Us being one of my favourite games of the previous gen - I'm just not that hyped for the sequel (it always felt like a game that didn't really need a sequel) and there are other games to play at the moment. I just find it all a bit odd, that's all.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Gamestop deemed a non essential business across America and shut down? Maybe that's why...there has to be a reason and I could see Gamestop holding them over the barrel seeing it's a big release.

To my knowledge, the game is done. Unless their physical shipments didn't meet numbers due to the shit going on all around the world right now or retailers such as Gamestop held them over the barrel. I'm sure Sony would love to distribute it digitally as it would be a great push for the digital incentive. But yeah, I can only imagine retailers are the biggest obstacle right now.

Oh I don't know. Would that mean even their online operations would cease? I was going from my experience in the UK where non-essential shops have been allowed to remain open for online services only. If it's the case that Gamestop isn't even doing online orders, then I guess that might explain it.

That's the thing, I live in Australia and as of writing this, EB is still open....a lot of places are still trading...even if it be online only. It is curious to me though why they pulled it so abruptly. If the game was ready to go like Druckman claims then what stopped it? I can only imagine it's either they feared stock issues with retailers or they simply don't have the shipment numbers locked down thanks to everything happening.

I'm not exactly crying about it since I have enough to play here as is. I'm still working through FFVII remake and then after that I have 100+ hours of Persona 5 Royal waiting. So I'm not exactly hurting for games at the moment, so for me it's kind of a blessing it's been pushed back.

I'm in the same boat. I really liked the first game, but whatever reason, I'm just not into what I've seen of the sequel so far. No, has nothing to do with the fact that Ellie is a lesbian or it potentially centring around a homophobic religious cult (if that's even true) or what not...I think I'm of the same opinion, I don't think this game needed a sequel. It would have impressed me more if they had left it as a one time deal. But of course, Sony ain't gonna allow that. Especially when the name prints money.

I hate button prompts. I can understand having them in the first hour of a game so you know what to do but do i really need Final Fantasy 13 to do a huge overlay covering 1/3 of the screen telling me to press A to open a treasure chest when I'm 10 hours in and that's the way treasure chests have been opened in the previous 12 games?

The Evil Within is AMAZING both in terms of gameplay and storytelling (people who complained about that aspect are just fucking wrong and boring), but my god is it dark, disgusting, and disturbing. Exactly what I signed up for, but still feeling a little mentally scarred lmao. I got interested in playing the sequel after "completing" the game for the first time, but then got disinterested after seeing the director has a western name. 👺🎌👺

Is it worth getting over my insufferable weeb inclinations for the sequel? Or nah? I've heard mixed things about it.

I think I've asked this before, but is Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 required (storywise) before 4? Or can I just go straight from 1 to 4? Does 4 spoil the events of 2 and/or 3? It's frustrating that Sega still hasn't ported 2 and 3 to home platforms, nor given 3 an official localization at all.
No, they are not needed. You do not even need to play Valkyria 1, though there are some cameos and references to it.

I played valkyria 2 and it was not good. I really disliked the typical anime high school setting they used and the small combat maps. Though I fully support a port of Valkyia 3 since I haven't played and I heard good things about it.

Edit: I started thinking and well there are some spoilers on Valkyria 4 about the first one like the Valkyrias identities and in which date/operation the big boss loses as they happen in the same timeframe in parallel.

Only one really is Cyberpunk but will probably wait for the PS5 release, especially if we get a hint that it will be released within the year of the console launch.

Do you think the majority of games are developed by gamers with a genuine interest? Or is it mainly corporate types looking to earn a quick buck? I ask because there are a number of missing features in certain games that just seem to obvious to me. My brother and I are doing a Master League on PES 2020 through the PS4's shareplay feature. Problem with this is that the lag is significant on his end. Why not just add in a drop in coop for that mode? Or any mode for that matter. Seems very obvious to me.

Secondly, we were trying to arrange a game of That's You on the PS4. For some dumb reason, you can't have groups of people per console join in on a game. Plan was to have 6 people from 3 different locations but for some reason when playing the game online, it becomes on per console when offline it's 6.

i would say:

the last of us part 2
cyberpunk 2077
halo 6

i dont think there is many ps4 games i want to play before i look to the next gen (ps5)..unlike my ps3, im not really that attached to my ps4.

the only games im currently interested in playing are:

resident evil 3 (i just ordered it)
death stranding
days gone
boarderlands 3
borderlands the handsome collection

The PS4 version will probably be playable with a PS5 enhanced patch via backwards compatability.

My old physical copys of Serious Sam The First and Second Encounter are not more running on my rig. But the playable Demo is running on my rig. Very strange sometimes.

I don't know, I've already played at least one of my major anticipated games (Yakuza 7) already

-- The Last of Us 2 -- mildly...for whatever reason, I'm just not feeling what I've seen of the sequel.

-- Cyberpunk 2077 -- again, mildly. I have The Witcher 3 and have still yet to complete it. But the world of Cyberpunk does look vastly more interesting to me. This one could go either way for me. I could love it or be totally indifferent to it.

-- Ghost of Tsushima -- the ONE game I am truly amped for. I love Sucker Punch's previous games (Sly Cooper and inFamous) so I have high hopes for this.

Out of the ones you listed, that would have to be Ghost of Tsushima, Trails of Mana, Bravely Default II, and Xenoblade Chronicles. I'd also add Tails of Arise, Shin Megami Tensei V, and the localization of Ryu ga Gotoku VII.
