Random Gaming Thoughts

Microsoft buying Bethesda is a good move, Microsoft need AAA titles. I hope they make future installments exclusives to them and PC. Microsoft should look for more studios to buy, maybe Sega?

 Not really. I was actually curious, because I figured there was a chance I would care about them, too.

Ginga Force, you say? I never actually bought a lot of the non-Cave shooters on the 360. Nice to know it'll be available on PC. I was actually confusing it for a second with Bullet Soul, which I just saw is also on PC now.
I don't know if you had any interest in Bullet Soul on 360 or PC, but imo it's absolutely worth it if you want a more laid back shmup. All the characters play very differently and the whole thing just oozes style.

I'm kind of conflicted on all those Microsoft buying Sega rumors flying around, because I like them being independent and don't want PS players to lose access to any upcoming Sega games... But I also want them to have money and take risks, and this would ensure all their games come to PC day one. I don't want anyone buying Sega, but IF they had to be bought by any of the console producers, I would prefer it to be Microsoft.

I personally think its pretty lazy and boring to just buy full IPs from someone else
so you can claim those are your exclusives now.
Microsoft knows that they have not many big exclusive games, it was always one of their main problems
because not much was going on besides Halo, Gears of War and Forza.
But instead of working on that part with their own studios, brand, teams and games
they thought wait a minute, guys we are rich, how about buying a full company
that comes with huge IPs on board and then we make them Microsoft exclusive!

And suddenly Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 are probably two of Microsofts biggest IPs ever,
probably bigger then their own next Halo game,
even tho these games are already in the works for 2, 3, 4 years without Microsoft.
If Microsoft buys Sega just to be able to put something like the Yakuza or Persona series exclusive on Microsoft platforms
and then they are telling us how good it is to have such a unique experience exclusive on Xbox and PC now
that would be complete BS if you ask me. These IPs are not famous because of Microsoft.
They just paid a lot of money to get IPs that already are huge.
Of course its a super smart move because all of a sudden they have a huge catalogue of games
but still, all that they are doing is really expensive shopping. Thats this rich kid kind of move. Just buy everything.
They are buying exclusives of someone elses famous IP catalogue.

I would say nothing against this if all of these studio were always partnered with Microsoft,
if Microsoft always helped them with every game, if Microsoft did build up the success step after step from the ground
and then they decide to buy these studio. But buying already existing / announced well known IPs that were multiplatform
or 100% exclusive to another platform before just to be able to exclude some of the old platforms from now on?
And then you are telling the gaming community hey look what cool new exclusive IPs we have
(well it did cost us billions of USD but whatever)
and how bright the future is and theres so much to be excited about ...
Thats whack. Really whack. Thats even worse than the typical 3-12 months time exclusive Playstation stuff.

I played the demo a long time ago, and thought it was kind of lacking in challenge, so I wasn't really interested in paying big money for it. The scoring seemed interesting, though. If I can get it for peanuts on PC at some point, I'd be down to give it some more time.

That's pretty much exactly how I feel when I see SquareEnix peddling Taito games, or Konami putting a bunch of nods to Hudson games in their pixel puzzle game, but playing it off as if they were originally from Konami.

Absolutely not. If they simply let their studios run semi-independently and produce new games as well as games for the huge amount of IPs they're sitting on, they would have no need to be buying out studios.

Microsoft going on this war path to be the Netflix of gaming is bad for the industry. I think Microsoft have done a terrible job so far with its first party studios and are similar to EA in that regard; sucking the creativity from their studios.

Pretty sure if there was anything to the Sega buyout rumor, we would've heard about it during Microsoft's TGS event. We can rest easy now probably

It was certainly a good move for ZeniMax, they were having financial troubles and there might have been layoffs in ID or Arkane if Microsoft did not intervened

The acquisition, if the rumors I heard are true, was a really good move for ZeniMax. Those rumors stated that it was having financial trouble after some of its AAA underperformed and if not for Microsoft they would require to layoff staff since all the big games of Bethesda are years from releasing. Similar when they did it in 2015 or so due the elder scrolls online underperforming.

Sorry double post but I saw this after posting the other.

Well seeing the fiascos that Microsoft had with rare and lionhead where they did more or less whatever and underperformed I can not quite say they are to blame on 100%of the cases.
Rare had viva pinyata and then Banjo Kazooie that it feels Microsoft let them be and were a disaster in sales.
Lionhead had Peter Molyneaux and I do not feel the need to say anything more about him...

We can certainly can blame them for the Halo milkeage and the Bungie bei g burned out of that and not letting do anything else (it was Microsoft flagship at that point of time)

And I think the forza guys seem quite comfy doing their car porn games but that is a personal opinion.

I posted something dumb yesterday. I suggested that Xbox buying Sega would be good. The more I think about this I'm glad that this isn't happening. The Xbox is non existent in Japan so Sega would be alienating the Japanese gaming market if they were to make that move. I dont want to imagine a American based Yakuza game. Keep Yakuza right where it is.

I understand you frustration though when you said " Its just nice to see Xbox do something ". When I dropped Playstation because I didn't like their new stricter censorship policy, I was frustrated that there weren't any good alternative consoles to jump into. This is just my opinion, of course.

The terrible, psychotic, downright DISGUSTING things I would do to get Sega back into the console wars again... You guys have no idea. I know it's just not possible with the way the industry is now, but that doesn't stop me from dreaming.

Did SEGA just tease VF6? They just announced something about Virtua Fighter x E Sports

But there was a brief glimpse that looked like a brand new Akira model.

Is it finally happening? Or is SEGA just toying with us?

If they're teasing VF in E-Sports they must be thinking about VF6 surely?

They announced something about a "new start for VF"

Reboot?

OHMYGOD! Just the fact that they finally acknowledged it is awesome enough, but now I need to know more!

I was playing Tekken 7 and watching the SEGA TGS stream on the second monitor and as soon as I heard that familiar insert coin sound effect my head immediately turned to the second monitor! It was ALMOST the same reaction as seeing Shenmue III pop up at E3 2015 :D

I've not been able to keep up with it, works been mental but on lunch now so I will dig around.

Man if they reboot that I will buy that Day1... hell I'd import it if I needed to,VF is amazing. Back in the Saturn days I wastedhours on VF2, as wellas the PS2 versions of 4. I remember 5 as a launch for the PS3. I'm all excited now.

Here we go.

Seems it's leaning towards E-Sports. That does look like a new Akira model. Bare minimum this is them optimising it for the E-sports arena. If this takes off then I reckon they must be thinking about VF6.

At this point, I'll take anything new Virtua Fighter related! Just them finally acknowledging it is a step in the right direction.

As will I. This could be good for the franchise. Imagine living in a world where VF6 and Shenmue 4 exist.... maybe it's one step closer now?

Making demos available only to those who have already purchased the game has to be the dumbest trend of this generation.

Two recent examples. I was a big Tony Hawk game fan back in the day and was somewhat interested in buying the remake. I notice there's a demo available but it's only available to those who pre order the game. Then I'm browsing the PlayStation store and my wife notices there's a new Crash Bandicoot game, the only game she plays. Being a full price game and not something I'd typically buy, I was glad to see there is a demo available. But guess what? Only available if you buy the game....

The whole point of a demo is to convince people to buy the game so why would you make it only available to those who already bought it?
