Random Gaming Thoughts

Well I sorted out my PS5 now! I got a message saying I could go in store and pre-pay my order - They're only giving us up until Wednesday evening to do so which is VERY short notice!

They're not actually delivering the console though, apparently I have to turn up on the day of launch to the store. It wont be open but the staff will be at t he door & I have a raffle ticket to hand over and then collect my console. If you don't turn up on the day between 8am - 2PM you won't be getting you console until Lockdown is lifted - Good grief!

Luckily I had holiday booked from work prior, if not it's on a Wednesday so I would be stuffed! Not keen on the idea of having to que up either. Might bring a separate bag as I don;'t want to get mugged on the way home :p ... serious :p

Ghost of Tsushima, in my opinion, sucks at mapping out buttons but having back buttons could have helped this significantly. Changing weapons and stances is too convoluted and the touch bad keeps getting in the way. They could have fitted back buttons and even two additional peripheral face buttons similar to the Xbox Duke Black and white buttons. The
Agreed. I also found that convoluted.

Same as me today. Raffle ticket and receipt. Have nether then no console. I'll be guarding mine closely!

Dunno if this is posted elsewhere, but it appears SEGA's selling off their arcade assets.
I know it doesn't impact their gaming division, but I wonder how badly this will affect them overall/long term.

Been playing with this absolute BEAUTY for a couple days now, and my god is it a gem.

genny 8-pad.png

Start + A works as a guide button (like PS/Xbox buttons) to pull up Steam overlay. Or you can combine it with other inputs to adjust audio/take screen caps in game, etc. Holding Start + B for 5 seconds toggles the controller between D-input and X-input. Feels exactly like my actual genny 6-pad, except it's less worn due to age. God it feels so good. Since the modern standard for face buttons on controllers is unfortunately 4 in a diamond formation, it doesn't fit 1 to 1 on the genny pad. Despite this, X-input mode matches the Xbox's ABXY to its own, which forms a slightly slanted diamond. It works well...

... BUT I have a flaming hot protip I'm sure no one else cares about: although the default mapping is fine, I find for games like Megaman or Blastermaster Zero, a different mapping is superior. Keep Y mapped to Y (or triangle on PS), but map A to X (square on PS), B to A (cross on PS), and C to B (circle on PS). With this, X/square is still to the left of your bottom button, B/circle to its right, and Y/triangle above it. Just werks.

I picked up one of these from Limited Run.

This actually looks like it's the JP Mega Drive 6-button molding. The NA version has longer 'wings.' I'll call them, and they kind of hit my palms the wrong way. I love my JP 6-button controller, though. It, and the Saturn controller are my most favorite controllers ever. They're maybe the only two in existence that don't give me some form of hand irritation. I should probably look into getting one of these. The skeleton blue is pretty cool, too.

Is there a shoulder Mode button, or did they just move it completely?

Any time a Saturn game lets me remap buttons, I'm usually setting it up like that. The great thing about those six button layouts is they offer two of those diamond patterns. Sometimes I'll map them to Y, Z, B and C instead, depending on my mood. Sometimes I find that more comfortable if I still want to use A and X for some other actions. For Megaman games with dash stuff, I always put fire on a shoulder button, though.

Well dang, I never noticed the mold difference. I just whipped out my actual genny pad to compare, and I couldn't really eyeball the change. But when I held it, it does seem like the edge of the OG pad hits the area between the underside of my pointer and middle finger knuckles a little sooner. The mode button has just been moved to the center though, yeah. Great idea on using BCYZ as a secondary diamond btw, I didn't even think of that. I'm gonna have to try this out in a couple games.

As much as I LOVE the DC controller, I do still regret that Sega dropped the 6 face button layout. 3 fat chunky buttons side by side like this and the Saturn controller is just bliss.

I do still love the DC controller, and don't even mind the D-pad, but I can't deny that I jacked up my thumb on it pretty bad, on multiple occasions, playing MvC2 as a teen. (Didn't have the arcade stick at the time, sadly.)

DC controller is still my favourite controller ever; I felt that it was made for my hands, as it is ergonomically perfect me.

Amazon are fucking stupid. I preordered the Switch version of the XIII remake, which was supposed to be released tomorrow, but has been delayed until Q1 2021. The other console versions are still out tomorrow.

Anyways, I just got a dispatch email and I checked my orders and they're sending me the fucking XBox One version. What the fuck did they do that for? I checked my order and it says XIII (Nintendo Switch Version), but it has a picture of the XB1 version and when you click on it, it takes you to the XB1 page.

Thanks Amazon... I could have done with the PS4 version, at least I own that console!

Edit: Managed to get it cancelled and they're returning it for a refund. The annoying thing is the delivery was combined with something else I had ordered (and actually wanted) and the only way to cancel it was to cancel both.

Agreed, I love these Retrobit controllers. I got one of the wireless ones for Christmas and it's great -

The USB dongle it comes with also work on PS3, so you can play Virtua Fighter Final Showdown with it, and on PS5 Street Fighter V with the legacy authetication - it's so good I sold my arcade stick as this made it redundant ! Works a treat on the Mega Drive mini too - with the Hakchi mod , playing Eternal Champions CD with this thing is pure bliss.
