Random Gaming Thoughts

I don’t recall the Wii getting patches, at least not for physical games. In particular, I recall both Twilight Princess as well as Skyward Sword having game breaking glitches towards the end that they had to release new versions of the game to fix.

i think your right. i did a little reading online and it seems nintendo is quite strict about only releasing games if they are 100% bug free so normally no updates needed.

i guess we're just gonna have to wait for an official statement from sony :cautious:

Didn't Skyward Sword have an Update you could download off the Wii's Store? I swear it had something.

I'm on the process of double checking my Updates today, want to make sure it's done and dusted before its too late... I have 250+ game to go through o_0

While there is no official confirmation, you can't buy anything else on the PS3's Store anymore (At least in Europe). So seems I won't be able to get that Prince of Persia Epilogue DLC I've cursed over for years :p

You might be right. Honestly it’s hard to remember. I just don’t think the internet was ever robust enough on Wii to allow for automatic patches at least but I could be wrong.

I never got around to the Prince of Persia DLC but from what I heard it’s kind of underwhelming unfortunately. I liked the main game ok enough, more for the art style and story and some of the music than anything else. Having only played the last in the trilogy before it to compare to, I remember liking the overall gameplay better there.

Hi,

I have found a little way to by-pass this with certain games DLC. You can't pay with your Credit/Debit Card but you can purchase PSN vouchers online and apply them still. I'm not sure if this will be available after the PS Store goes down fully so you might want to take advantage of this while you can. I made a video toot' to show how you can do this step-by-step in-case anyone's interested :)

PSN Voucher Links:

looks like it's official. someone posted a now deleted image on reddit (it looked like an email?) from sony, saying the psn store for ps3/psp is closing on the 2nd july. - i expect we will all get the email soon.

the main good thing it stated is our previously purchased games and dlc, that we own, will still be able to be downloaded after the closure of the ps3/psp psn store.

if true that must mean that ps3 patches will still exist going forward.

edit
here is another thread on the subject.

fantastic to hear we can still download purchased content.

if anyone wants to read it, the official statement can be found here

I have the email in my in box:
Hi PlayStation Gamer,
We are closing PlayStation™Store on PlayStation®3 on 2 July 2021 and on PlayStation®Vita devices on 27 August 2021. Additionally, the remaining purchase functionality for PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) will also retire on 2 July 2021. After thoughtful consideration, we decided to make these changes in an effort to focus our resources for PlayStation Store on PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5, which will enable us to enhance the customer experience even further. We thank you for your support on these platforms throughout the years.

What does this mean for you?
You will no longer be able to purchase PS3, PS Vita and PSP digital content, including games and video content.

You will also no longer be able to make in-game purchases through games on PS3, PS Vita and PSP.

While the PSP storefront was previously closed in 2016, the remaining PSP purchase functionality (e.g. in-game purchases) will now be fully retired.

What about content you already own?
• You will still be able to download your owned PS3, PS Vita, and PSP content, including games and video content.
• You can download your owned content onto your PS3, PS Vita, or PSP by accessing the Download List on the respective device.
• If you have purchased a PS3/PS Vita cross-buy bundle and have only downloaded either the PS3 or PS Vita version, you will need to download the other version prior to the closure of PlayStation™Store on the relevant device.
• Video content that you own can be streamed on PS3, PS4 or PS5 through the My Videos app, or on mobile devices through the PlayStation™Video app.
• You will still be able to re-download and play game titles you have claimed through PlayStation®Plus as long as you remain a member of the service.

What about vouchers, wallet funds, and cross-buy content?
• You will still be able to redeem game and PlayStation®Plus vouchers on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices once PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality for these devices close.
• You will no longer be able to redeem PSN wallet fund vouchers (e.g. gift cards) on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices once PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality for these devices close.
• Your PSN wallet funds will remain in your PSN account, but you will only be able to use your wallet funds to purchase PS4 and PS5 products on PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles.
• You will still be able to purchase cross-buy content through PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles and access both the PS4 version and the PS3/PS Vita/PSP versions.

Where can you find out more?
Read our FAQ for more information: https://www.playstation.com/support/important-notice/

PS Vita messaging service
As of 28 June 2021*, users on PlayStation Vita will no longer be able to use the messaging service. Although messaging on PS Vita is going away, your messages will still be available to you by using the messaging service on PS5 consoles, PS4 consoles, and via mobile on PS App.

*Termination will start on 28 June 2021, actual date of the termination may differ by region.

The annoying thing is it does not address what will happen with Updates files for games...

New trailer for Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World

It does look better from the original announcement trailer but still feels a bit flat to me. Something about the MIDI orchestration feels off to me, too. Still interested to see how well it comes out during the full release.

A Way Out always seemed good from what I’ve seen. By no means perfect but a short, fun little adventure with a pretty good story. Now I guess the same guy has made a new game called It Takes Two, another coop game but much more focused on platforming, action, really just gameplay in general, but the cutscenes are still great. So far the only real flaw I can think of is it feels very padded. The one peculiar thing from the stream of it I’ve been watching is how apt some comparisons to Conker’s bad fur day there have been lol

Got to the part of Evolution 1 DC where
Linear is kidnapped
and I'm just wondering how completely fucked I'm going to be without a good healer. Also Chain is like 40 levels behind since I never used her once I got Pepper...

So Sony rejected a Days Gone 2 pitch? That's a shame...I actually kind of liked Days Gone and thought it had some interesting things going for it. Notably the horde stuff. Fighting hordes in that game was actually really fun and challenging and it was something I was hoping they would build on in a potential sequel.

But apparently, Sony disagrees and decided to reject it....but hey, look forward to another probable fucking Last of Us where we can all sit around and slit our wrists to the feel bad game of the year! ;) The fact that they're even pitching a remake to the first Last of Us is enough to make me groan...and I liked the first game. Didn't like the sequel, but I did like the first game...but honestly? You don't need to remake the first game, Sony. Not yet.

Snarkiness aside, I don't think I'm liking where Sony is going this gen. It seems like arrogant Sony is coming back. Doesn't bode well. Here's hoping more and more third parties embrace Steam going forward. Embrace Steam, Atlus. Give me the next Persona on PC day one alongside PS5.

Don't expect Sony to embrace Shenmue IV btw as it seems Jim Ryan likes the blockbusters and that's about it...I mean they didn't do much for Shenmue III but they at least embraced it enough for the announcement. But yeah, I don't expect anything from them going forward...I still think if Shenmue IV happens, it may be Epic that actually gets the deal done. Which I know a lot of people will groan towards, but I could see Epic stepping in...but I don't expect Sony to embrace IV at all. Not with the way things are going at Sony right now.

Geez, that article has really kicked up a storm just because Sony never green lighted one game. They've taken risk and delivered a number of new and amazing IPs. It's Microsoft that have been stifling creativity and delivering the same old nonsense year after year.

I hope Square Enix is not done with Tokyo RPG Factory. I thoroughly enjoyed I am Setsuna, Lost Sphear, and Oninaki.

Oh, dude, you didn't use Gray at all, did you--. He's who you're supposed to rely on at that point, I think. Not as good at healing, but still serviceable. Do you have Mag's healing parts for him to heal himself? Buy lots of healing items, I guess? Best of luck--.

That's my fear though...that they will become more like Microsoft and rely on 3 or 4 IPs and that's it. Like I said, the fact that they're talking about remaking The Last of Us -- a game that doesn't need a remake at this point -- worries me. But then again, I think creativity in gaming is in the toilet as a whole.

lol I hear ya. I was in the same boat, but like Rydeen mentioned above, I leaned on Gray heavily as well; I kinda f'd up with my choices in Evolution, but in II, I did much better; I had a much-better understanding of the game at that point :)

Don't worry too much though, you'll get it through it!

But if this Last of Us remake wasn't announced, there wouldn't be any talk about stifling creativity. Yeah, a remake is largely unnecessary unless it ads some major new features like co-op or something, but in the end, it was a team that approached Sony about doing it and they simply said yes.

Sony released so many new IPs last generation that they can afford to rely on sequels for a bit. Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima for example have only had one installment and God of War is practically a new game. Gears of War and Halo, I've genuinely lost count on how many games they've released so far.

Yeah so... I ended up brute force grinding it like a caveman last night because I didn't read this in time. When I finally started to realize I should probably take a look at Gray's skills (maybe around the 5th time I got utterly destroyed by robo Eugene? Idk I lost count) I was too deep in the hole with Chain (not really) and stubbornly stuck with her + grinding until the game finally let me win lmao. Yeah... think I'm going to hold on to all my buffing items this time and give Gray a shot if this happens again in 2. 😬

That was an amazing final boss, though. That nuke once you had him on the ropes was simultaneously fucking bullshit and seriously awesome. I love when a game isn't afraid to just murder unsuspecting players like that. Seems like there's a pretty beefy post-game too?

Anyways I just started 2 and WOW, they really changed up EVERYTHING! This is so cool. I can't believe there was only an 11 month difference in terms of JP release dates, stuff like that just doesn't happen these days. Absolutely love this new track btw
