Random Gaming Thoughts

Yes, the Re 4 remake is indeed a very good game. I had a great time with it and enjoyed it a lot. Even as a non-fan of the original. The remake does everything better. The core concept remained the same but they defused the cheese factor a lot. Leon is still but not embarrassingly cool. They even made Ashley a useful and likable character.

I did not expect that because to me Re 4 was always the beginning of the end for the classic RE franchise.

i started resident evil 4 remake on the ps5 and tried the recently released mercenaries mode. RE4 remake is definitely a AAA game.

resident evil mercenaries is good but not as addictive as the gamecube version i remember. i thought i did really good on one RE mercenaries levels, i killed every enemy and getting a S+ rank. got the option to register my rank online... turns out i didnt make top 10, i was ranked 350,000+ lol

it seems data miners are finding lots of yet unreleased content for resident evil 4. capcom seems pretty good, so it will probably be free DLC.. but on the other hand they have started selling RE4 loot boxes :censored:

I'm pretty sure if theres a Ada story DLC for the remake, it will probably cost like 19,99 USD / €.
Thats why Ada and Wesker arent in the mercenaries update,
because then Capcom can say "Hey look, for 19,99 you will get the Ada story DLC
AND Ada + Wesker for mercenaries, great price right?"

And then a couple of months later they will release a Gold Edition for full price
which includes the 19,99 bonus outfits / weapons + the 19,99 Ada DLC for 69,99.

Wouldnt surprise me at all.

I don't know if you guys remember that rumor of a new Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio game from a while back, but apparently this footage reel that was shown internally within SEGA back in 2021 reveals a potential art direction for the latter. Not at all a fan of it personally, but obviously seems like a VERY early and primitive proof of concept. If they actually decided to go with this direction, I would need to see some close to finalized footage and gameplay to make a proper judgement ofc. Unfortunately I don't expect a new JSR to ever make it out of early development, though, regardless of art direction chosen.

Also I know I've said I generally don't like remakes just a few posts back, and I absolutely stand by that... but DAMN that Persona 3 Remake (?) footage looks good! 👀 At least from a visual and presentation standpoint, that could turn out to be one of the few remakes I approve of. What do you guys think?

/\ i've never see that video before, i would love to play JSR3 but i did read online many years ago, any time a 3rd game was pitched to sega, it would get rejected.. no idea why.

i can only imagine that bomb rush cyberfunk has prompted sega to consider making another jsr.. as things are, i'm more interested in bomb rush cyberfunk than any new jsr.

i just completed resident evil 4 remake (ps5). its very good. i thought it was amazing.

i would say its one of those games which pushes the bar higher for game developers. graphics, story telling, gameplay.. just all great. RE4remake really builds upon RE2remake & RE3remake, in the best possible way. upgrading your weapons (power, reload time, etc) adds more fun to the game because you get to customise your guns based on your style of gameplay. about the guns... only a minor complaint but i wasn't a fan of the first person view of the rifle/m16. it would of been nice to have an option of a 3rd person view when shooting non-scoped

if your into shooting/action games, i highly recommend it. i;ll probably replay it when the ada wong DLC comes out.

Man, the World Tour open world stuff in Street Fighter 6 looks rough.
And i'm not even a big like graphics fanboy, i can still play games like Shenmue or Resident Evil Remake etc
and its fine. But now that we are in 2023 and ive seen games like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 4 Remake,
Assassins Creed Odyssey, Witcher 3 Next Gen patch and stuff like that,
i gotta say the open city stuff in the Street Fighter 6 demo looks like from a PS4 game that came out like 7, 8 years ago.

You can clearly see how the lighting only looks good in the cutscenes but the ingame scenes look super flat
and outdated. All of the citizen NPCs look like your average preset Saints Row 3 or whatever NPCs.
And on top of that, even on PS5, they made the resolution mode the default one, not the performance option.
Which forces all world tour fights to run at a very rough 30 fps.
And yeah, its great that you can make basically anything you want in the character creator
but again, the overall quality of the skin details, how realistic the hair looks and so on is just ... bad.

I'm getting like a Shenmue 3 artstyle vibe from it and i dont mean that in a bad way for S3
but i feel like a company like Capcom should be able to deliver something thats way more impressive
than a 7 mil USD Kickstarter campaign, if you know what i mean? Especially when Capcom just released RE4 Remake
and that game looks a hundred times more impressive in terms of up to date graphics.

This only applies to the make your own character world tour stuff.
The normal VS whatever arcade modes where you play as the normal SF characters in stages looks totally fine.

I think it looks great except for the lightning at some parts like you said. The global light is neat but when bounces in characters it makes them look like toys or plastic coated, and I dont think that's the final intention.
But lets note this is a demo, it doesn't reflect the final product state etc.
Surely feedback like this will be taken in at polishing the final release.
And hey, SF6 developers quoted Shenmue as the main inspiration for World Tour. By saying that, the series value increases like when Elon Musk talk dogecoin.

I'm sorry for what I'm about to say if anyone is really looking forward to the game, but the visuals are FUCKING DISGUSTING and the primary reason I will never play this game. It could have the greatest gameplay on earth, I wouldn't care, I would still refuse to play something that looks like this. It legitimately looks like one of those fake games you'd see during a 5 second segment of an American sitcom 2 or 3 decades ago.

Are you taking the piss or did they actually say that?

I finished six playthroughs of Catherine: Full Body and acquired all gold trophies and endings without using a walkthrough throughout my experience. I only used a guide when I was stumped by a few stages on Hard difficulty.

I want to wrap up Catherine as soon as possible, so I'm using a guide for Rapunzel's two modes. Afterwards, I'll co op with another player to finish Babel mode to plat the game.

Listening to the Skies of Arcadia soundtrack right now made me think about the fact that I kind of miss the Dreamcast/PS2 era. Sure, Shenmue has something to do with it but I enjoyed a lot that was released around that time. Metal Gear Solid-releases, Resident Evil stuff, Silent Hill, Killer 7, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online, Zelda : Windwaker (on Gamecube of course),... up to things like Shadow of the Colossus later on.
I also liked that the industry had gotten big enough to release larger, more immersive games (as well as smaller titles) while at the same time still having some of that "outside of the mainstream"-spirit. Big companies took a few more risks compared to now and everything felt slightly less mainstream corporate (no microtransactions, extensive focus groups, ... then). Of course it was big business then too but it felt like a nice balance between mainstream/niche gaming. Now niche games are largely part of the indie scene where budgets are more limited. To be clear, I have enjoyed many games after that generation too. This is not intended as a rant against every game released after that era.

It was the golden age of gaming. I bought a PS2 loaded with 800 games the other month and I can't stop playing it. Amazing for nostalgia

I'm sure some of you already saw this, but a new Space Harrier inspired game got announced a few days ago. It looks AMAZING
