Recent Gaming Purchases

After a recent discussion regarding fighting games like MK, Tekken and Dead or Alive I wanted to revisit a franchise I hadn't experienced in a long time. I decided to pick up Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown on Xbox. I hadn't played VF5 in a very very long time, so long in fact I couldn't remember if it was good, or as bad as I remembered it being. Long story short: money in the garbage on this one. At least the other recent purchases of Tekken 7 and DOA 6 were dirt cheap and have some play value of sorts, VF5 feels like playing a broken sloppy game out of the mid-90s. VF as a franchise has not aged well either. If Sega brings this franchise back as rumors suggest, I can't imagine it would actually make them any money.

Finished Sleeping Dogs last night, it wasn't bad. It's the best GTA style game I've played outside of the actual GTA titles. Mindless cornsyrup entertainment that is fun, and is done right.

Back to GoT LEGENDS until something else comes about.

Resident Evil 6 is a brilliant online co-op game - Terrible RE game but still among the best co-op games out there!

Wanted to get the Bayonetta/Vanquish steelbook edition before it ran out & got it for £15 along with Fallen Order for £15 too.

After months of (shameful) deliberation, I finally pulled the trigger. YOLO

I was holding out in hope of them releasing the one with analogs so it could be my controller to handle everything, but my DS4 dpad is really starting to shit the bed so w/e.

At first I was worried that Yakuza 7 might not come until the 24th, but I just got an email from Amazon saying it should be here on the 11th and for around $10 cheaper. Hope the same can be done for Hyrule Warriors.

Decided to download Moon Remix RPG today. Unfortunately I’ve already spoiled it a bit for myself but I wanted to show some support for people who are this creative.

I typically never buy any game at retail price, ever. Except Shenmue 3 and Ghost of Tsushima which are the first two video games I've paid full retail price for since about 2007 because Shenmue is well...SHENMUE!! and Ghost of Tsushima looked absolutely amazing, and it indeed was! Today, I decided to go against my usual code and take a risk at a full $50 for Assassin's Creed Valhalla on Xbox. I know it's a post 2003 Ubisoft title, I know it's coming from the AC franchise which currently has zero good games in it's 13 year history and I know it may have been a foolish purchase, but I couldn't find the usual $5-$10 digital copy, so I spent a few bucks on it. My expectations are fairly low, but my hopes are high in that they will make a solid title that feels less like AC and more like a viking version of Ghost of Tsushima. Best case scenario I'm pleasantly surprised, worst case scenario it goes into my inventory and I'm only out about $10-$15. I bought it on disc just in case.

After the first night of playing AC Valhalla: It's the best AC game yet, but that doesn't say much as it's still a hot mess. The combat experience and controls are awful, absolutely awful. The combat feels like some janky low budget 3rd person game from 2000, not something you'd expect from a 2020 triple A open world title, ....more like something you'd expect from post-2003 Ubisoft. The main character(and their clan)are total douches and there is nothing likable or relatable to their struggle, purpose or motivations. There was a cutscene that jumped in out of nowhere that took place in current time with another character with no backstory or explanation? WTF?? The physics are BAD, the characters development is lame, the glitches are a whole new level of broken it makes WWE 2K20 look good,....as for the compliments...the landscape is pretty...sorta? It's no Ghost of Tsushima or current era Tomb Raider game, but it's still somewhat pretty. AC Valhalla is still the only AC game that is somewhat interesting for more than an hour, but as expected it is broken, glitchy and flat in almost every way. If you're really curious wait for this to hit a $5-$10 sale in the Xbox/PS store or in a year when you find it at the local thrift store for $3(that's what I did with AC Odyssey, and it wasn't even worth the $3, Valhalla is though). If you're looking to spend $50 on an amazing open world 3rd person experience grab Ghost of Tsushima on PS4, or if you're an Xbox player you can pick up all 3 of the current era Tomb Raider games from the digital store for under $50 combined when they go on sale frequently in the Xbox store. Both franchises are much better than this. How the hell does Assassin's Creed still manage to sell after all these years?

I have zero interest in Assassin's Creed. Respected the first one and like all the games in the second installments quite a lot but they just looked very samey from there. This game looks like a buggy mess and the combat looks no different from the very first game.
ive lost interest in assassins creed. i enjoyed black flag but after they killed off desmond miles, the story became a mess.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5)
Demon Souls (PS5)
Sackboy: A Big Adventure (PS5)

Those were my three launch titles. I stick by them.

These arrived from Japan a few weeks ago but had to share. Sonic figure and OG Game Gear shown for scale:

The Game Gear Micro is actually quite playable despite the tiny screen. I was able to beat Sonic 1 MS without any difficulty or eye strain.
