Recent Gaming Purchases

I hear you. Just gotta follow the right social media accounts and jump. I had this on notification for over a month. They’ll immediately tell you when the major retailers are in stock. That said, all the sites have a bunch of hurdles to jump over. I tried everything: Amazon, Wal Mart, Target, NewEgg… Best Buy finally did it. It seems like the trick is having s the extra bit of motivation to keep refreshing and clicking “add to cart” when the button doesn’t work.

this is all assuming you’re in the States…

The PS5's scarcity has me so freaked that I got really paranoid when I left Best Buy with mine. The box is huge! It's like a flashing light was going off all around me when I went to my car. Haven't played much; my son got to try out the pack-in Astro game. The controller is way, way more solid than any PS controller that came before it. I've got R&C, so that'll be next---then probably Lost Judgment.

Man sometimes I wish I was a broke kid who only got a game once or twice a year again so I wouldn’t have to spend my week off deciding what game to play. Totally forgot about EDF and Far Cry releasing this week

The best rumble I've ever felt on a controller by far. The dualsense 5 has a really good haptic feedback in general and stands in a league of its own, but Astros Playroom is the best display I've seen for rumble yet.

I should add that I'm not bias towards the PS controllers either in general. I cannot stand the PS4 controller, I am not impressed with PS1, PS2 or PS3 controllers at all and while I prefer the PS5 dualsense over the older models, I am not a fan of it either overall, yet that haptic feedback is every bit as amazing as they hyped it up to be. As someone who loves the feel and design of the 360/XB1/XBX controllers I'm actually finding myself a bit bummed out that I'm going back to my XB Series and putting away the PS5 after some rumble goodness this last month!

FINALLY! While hardly game of the year material I have wanted to play this since late 2020 - but after buying it cheap I learned of it having a Season Pass with content that is a prequel to the main game! So I have been holding off to see if the extra levels would drop on PS Store and today is the day!

Lol have you played this yet? I too thought it looked decent until I played it. It's like a low budget PS2 title. This game is my tester disc for when I get in PS4's because the install time is next to nothing.

Yeah... I played the DLC and wasn't impressed :p Still I wanted to have the chance to play it prior to the game - This is the same person who waited 3-4 years to play the Mass Effect Trilogy on PS3 because they didn't release the 1st game until later. It's also the reason I haven't played The Witcher series, despite all of the 3rd games praise.

I got an Xbox One X this week! They're going for such low prices on eBay I couldn't say no! There's plenty of 360 Era games playable on the system which is much more preferable than me using my PS3. I also have quite a few other games like Quantum Break, the Final Fantasy imports from USA (X/X-2, XII & World of FF), Shenmue HD R & Dontnods Tell Me Why. I also didn't know that a lot of Xbox Online games don't require a Gold Liv membership so I can access Phantasy Star Online 2 which is a bonus.

The games I got about for less than £20, Gears 4 included all the other games digitally (Also found out my Quantum Break's Alan Wake 360 version code worked too!). I'm currently playing Life Is Strange 2 and adoring it! This game has been an absolute pain to play on PS4/PS5. PS4 version has a code for the last episode making the physical Edition a joke, by the time I decided to buy it cheap I had a PS5 and couldn't play the prequel demo - Which has save data that ties into the main game so important for the experience. But now I have the Xbox One version (T'was £4.99!) I can experience it properly!

Overall I am very happy with the console, it makes a great secondary console and with its 4K capability still worth owning.

I bought the Zone of Enders HD collection on the ps3 and Gun Griffon for the Saturn now. I am a bit into mech games now and will start them playing as soon as I am done with Life is Strange True colors is done. which will take a while. I am still in chapter 4.

Gun Griffon! I haven't played that in 25 years almost. If you're into mech games here's a few I recommend if you can get them at an affordable price, and these are a lot older and less commonly known than the more popular Mech Warrior, Armored Core, Titanfall and Hawken:

Virtual On for Saturn(fighter)
Slave Zero for Dreamcast(1st and 3rd person)
Shogo: Mobile Armor Division for PC (1st person)

Those 3 are all enjoyable, here's a few others that aren't quite as good but are still decent for a lower price.

Robotica for Saturn(1st person)
Descent for PC (1st person)
Grudge Warriors for PS1(3rd person)

Grudge Warriors was literally one of the last PS1 titles and it launched for like $6 USD brand new so proceed with caution on that one.

@otbr87 Thanks a lot for your tipps. Virtual One and Slave zero are on my to buy list already they look quite interesting. Shogo as well at least sort off. I knew that there was a late 90s shooter were you can fight with mechs and on the ground without mechs that i want to play at some point in the future but I did not know the name. So it was hard to find the game. Thx for helping out.

My pleasure. I was a huge fan of FPS games back in the 90s/early 00s, at that time they were literally my favorite genre for the most part and Shogo was highly underrated in its time. I know you prefer disc, but I do see Shogo on sale on Steam often times for about $3-4 USD. Slave Zero is cool and if you're into DC games its a must for the collection. Virtual On I enjoyed a lot but I don't know if I'd pay a ton of money for that one, the controls are a bit janky at times.

yes Slave Zero really looks cool. It is on my to buy list to complete my Dreamcast collection for quite some time.

And I have to agree. The old shool fast paced shooters of the mid to late 90s and early 2000s are among my favourite genres as well. There are quite some games I missed back then because in the pre internet and steam days it was not to easy to get certain pc games. Thanks to gog and steam I can experience them now.

Shogo looks really cool. I also like the concept to play on foot and in the mech.

This is an area that you and I agree on when it comes to older games being better than newer ones. Even though I'm story driven and experience driven now and prefer 3rd person experiences, that wasn't the case when I was younger both before Shenmue and after its release I overall preferred first person shooters and while story was nice, it wasn't essential. Overall, I think the FPS games of the 90s and early 00s are far better than anything that has come out since. It feels like a dead genre in terms of innovation(outside of Far Cry) and then there's the drizzling shits of CoD games that release every year. All of the other newer franchises post-2004 that looked cool all ended up not being very good (stuff like Crysis) The last really great and fresh FPS franchise that came out was Far Cry in 2004, I've yet to see another new franchise come along and do anything interesting in the FPS genre (my hopes are up a bit for Bright Memory Infinite though). While Far Cry has mostly maintained a way to feel fresh with each release while sticking to it's formula, I cannot say that I enjoyed any of the FPS games after 2004/2005 from the bigger franchises that I enjoyed in the 90s and early 00s. Doom, Duke Nukem, Quake, Halo, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor just to name a few I haven't enjoyed since Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake 2 and the very first CoD and MoH. Half-Life? Hasn't had a real sequel since 2. I hated Halo 2 and everything after it, I literally lost interest in gaming entirely because Halo 2 was such a disappointment and it showed the direction that games were going with a 4 hour campaign and focusing on multiplayer online which was fairly new at the time. I am tempted to try Far Cry 6 when its under $10 cause I'm curious, but I won't spend retail since I never finish the newer FC games since I lose my attention span and they're a bit too gritty with no real purpose to the story telling for my tastes. FPS in the retro era is where it's at for that genre. I hope some fresh stuff can come along in this current gen.

Very interesting points. To me this classic fps are special because they give you the feeling to be one man army. Just blasting through the hords of enemies was great fun back then and is still great fun now. These games are simple and it is just about skills and reflexes. There were also quite interactive for their time with destructable environments or even quite beliable NPCS like in Half Life for exampel. Well the guards and scientists had some problems of course but they still worked quit well compared to horrible AI of Natalia in Goldeneye 64 one year before Half Life came out.

It also can be quite fun to play a modern shooter with rpg elements sometimes. I like the Metro games somehow.

But nothing beats Half Life, the Old Medal of Honor Games, Doom, Quake and Duke Nukem 3d.

but they still worked quit well compared to horrible AI of Natalia in Goldeneye 64 one year before Half Life came out.

With how much I've played that game and watched Graslu's videos on YT, etc., I can honestly say that the quote above is absolutely false.

The AI in GE wasn't phenomenal, but it was VERY good and still stands up, on the whole. Natalya is only a problem if you aren't too-adept in the game, as NPCs like this should never get in the way; the true testament of the adept gamer, is one who removes the load by sheer ability/experience.

Anyways, I'm derailing, so I'll shut up about it!
