General RGG Discussion

Right, just started the fifth chapter in Yakuza 3 Remastered and the game is really beginning to pick up now. All that orphanage shit can fuck right off.

"Aww, but it was so nice seeing Kiryu interacting with the children and being a good father figure in their lives. It really shows a different side to his character. They even call him Uncle Kaz! So kawaii desu ne!"

PUT IT IN A COUPLE OF FUCKING CUTSCENES INSTEAD OF FORCING ME TO TRAVEL BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE ORPHANAGE AND RYUKYU DOZENS OF TIMES FOR NEGLIGIBLE REASONS FOR THOSE UNGRATEFUL LITTLE TWITS, THEN! Christ. I hope a tsunami washes the bloody place away. Keep the dog safe, though.

Kamurocho is where it's at.
Yeah I agree. And looking at Kiryu being so nice with kids feels weird to me. It's like when my dad talks like a baby to a 5 yo kid. Its like "stop, please".

BTW told you, you had to wait a bit and pass that orphanage stuff. Story its really cool

Completely agree with the sentiment; you either like it or you don't!
Yeah, you'd better agree, otherwise you might wake up in the middle of the night with this spring chicken dribbling over you:

You were right, dude. I was worried the sour taste would carry on for the duration of the game, but it's turned sah-weet now!

So what are the chances of someone modding back in Y6's theme song Soubou when Yakuza 6 comes out on PC next month?

I actually haven't checked out the modding scene for the PC games. But I would really appreciate it if someone mods in that original theme song. I felt like it was so damn integral to that game and it always bummed me out that it was cut from the Western Release.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to having a reason to replay it next month. I never went back to it after getting the platinum for it on PS4.

Not sure about Platinum Y7 anymore, the only Gold Trophy is a time consuption vortex...

Same with Atom no Ko
Another great tune; Yamashita did a brilliant job.

Well, I ventured into the mod scene and found mods to bring back the original themes for Yakuza 0 on PC (YES! I loved the fuck out of Bubble when I first heard it)...so I would assume it will happen :)

Which is fine by me, I want that original soundtrack back! I really missed those two songs when it came to the West on PS4.

I did it and it had nothing to do with the Yakuza IP.
It was more like "what games do you like, do you like multiplayer, are you going to buy game XYZ
(from different publishers), how important is immersion in games for you ..."

It was not about Yakuza content or spin offs or anything like that.

In defense of the orphanage segment in Yakuza 3, these parts felt amazing to go through back in 2010, after we were deprived of a Yakuza: Kenzan release, and had to do big fan campaigns to try and get 3 released over here. Seeing Kiryu in hi-def PS3 HD quality having a nice, quiet life and taking care of some mob problems along the way felt like the best possible life for the character, and it felt great at the time. Replaying it right now after having gone through it in the PS4 edition a few months ago is far from ideal, and I see how these sequences might seem grating to many.

The orphanage sections of Yakuza 3 were among my favourite of the game! It just makes Kiryu more kind natured and likable to me.

I'm still on Yakuza 5 and just about to begin Chapter... All I will say is that I suck at rhythm games so I am dreading this haha!

I did end up enjoing Chapter 2 more when I was able to explore the city and mountain area at my own time. The pacing of the mountains area was awful, while the mechanics of the hunting was decent the back and forth nonsense in the village was unbearable. I beat all the main story missions in the village and all the Tendo training missions but barely did any of the extra sideqests for the hunts.

I did enjoy some of the sidequest back at the city, particularly helping out the little girl selling matches. It was cool that you had the choice to avoid her, pay off the money she needed or help her achieve her goal by asking people. Just another example to why I think Y5's substories are really great.

Also, lovedthe Snowball fight mini-game! Fresh new set of mechanics and really fun, not much of a reward for beating them all but fun nevertheless.

I finally completed LAD after 83 hours last night. As with every Yakuza game, I try to do as near as dammit 100% in one sitting until such point I don't want to play it anymore. Usually, I want to 100% the side quests and get as many trophies as possible, but I can't stomach doing New Game+ or anything (I think I got all but 7 trophies here).

I thoroughly enjoyed it; I loved the characters and the story was great. I must admit that as much as I liked the turn based system, towards the end I was getting a little bored with it (mostly grinding to get trophies), but I was like that with all the other games. I wouldn't object to another game with Ichiban and co!

@Vivi-gamer

Same here, but there's only about 4 story required songs so don't sweat! I waited over a year go back because of my rhythm anxiety and also being drained from the
break out and forest survival
but ended up being a breeze!

Alright currently playing Yakuza 4. I like the new character and I scaped the prision with Saejima

Just one thing keeps me thinking

The scene of Saejima and Haruka... Wasnt that A BIT TOO MUCH?

Like I know it's Japan and so on but even for them, that was kinda a lot. And only to make Kiryu say "I saw what happened, that was the stare of a man that wasnt with a woman in years, you were in prision right?" Like, dude, you didnt need to create that scene, Kiryu already knew he was in jail, I mean, he had immate clothes for fuck sake.

I dont know, the scene was too weird and dangerous, and I'm not considered a SJW that cancels stuff on social media, but holy jesus, if they find that scene they'd make a scandal. I'm glad this series is still kinda niche and hidden from the public.

You know what I can defend that scene a little. Personally speaking it's never made me wince because nothing happens in it. Maybe slightly uncomfortable but isn't that kind of the point? It's an awkward situation even for them. If anything, I think it was to humanize Saejima a little bit. We've only really seen him as the paid assassin and we didn't really know much about him other than he was a tough brute so the fact that he actually shows restraint in a moment where he could very easily take advantage of the girl is almost painting him in a positive light for me. To show that he isn't just some savage beast.

Man behind bars for how many years (I forget) suddenly encounters the touch of a female. Yeah, kind of a hard thing to control for a guy who probably once had a sex life and has had a caged libido. Also, the age of consent in Japan is 13 and Haruka at that point is what? 14-15? Granted, I understand why that is touchy for us westerners when our consent age is usually around 18 or so (depending on where you live)...I can understand why that is touchy for us Westerners...but I guess it's something most Japanese people wouldn't bat an eye at?

Also combine the fact that nothing happened in that scene and it was just a moment of awkward "oh shit! What do I do?" more than anything. I mean, like I said, grown man who has been locked behind bars and hasn't had sex in years is probably gonna be a little touchy with that type of situation.

I understand why it's touchy as fuck for us Westerners, but I guess it's something most Japanese people wouldn't bat an eye at because of that age of consent factor? Cultural differences, man. They're a funny thing.

Like I said, I can't say it ever made me wince. I just saw it as a deliberate awkward situation and a moment that further humanizes Saejima and shows that he is a man capable of restraint and he has some good qualities about him. Or maybe I'm just weird...it's really hard to offend me.

I know, cultural stuff, but that doesnt mean they're culture are "best" in those terms. The "under age" stuff in Japan it's kinda dirty. They dont sell "underage porn" but they sell stuff like "she seems like 13 yo girl", so, is that under age? Well, no, but kinda yes. It's a matter of technicality at the end of the day. Fair enough, but still shitty.

I know I'm looking kinda boomer right now, I never had a problem with this stuff. In fact, I think that "legal ages" are kinda strict and sometimes they are wrong based on mental mature of the teenagers (like, 17 yo and 19 yo it's illegal? Why? When turns 18 magically brain makes a switch?) so I'm not a conservative boomer that is asking prision to a guy of 20 years old dating a last year highschool girl. But this stuff to me was kinda too much, because the face of Haruka didnt seem exactly like "ew, get out" precisely.

There's other ways of humanize people, and if you want to be "touchy" she could easily touch his arm and he'd blush because of it and we would get the message.

What? No, no, I'm turning into a SJW forcing the devs to make the game like I want. Suddenly I'm seeing Abby was right and TLOU2 was actually a great game. OH SHIT IT GOT ME I'M INFECTED, I GOT IT INSIDE.

RUN DANIEL, IT WILL HUNT YOU TOO.

RUN DUDE, I'M ALREADY LOST. GO WITHOUT ME. IF YOU EVER SEE ME AGAIN PUT A BULLET IN MY BRAIN, ITS ALRIGHT MAN, I WONT BE MYSELF.

RUN AND DONT LOOK BACK, SAVE YOURSELF DANIEL. TALK TO SPUD, HE WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO.

I didn't say they were the "best." I just said whoever wrote it clearly didn't bat an eye to it. Eh, like I said, nothing happens in that scene and I saw the point of it so I never took issue with it personally. Might have been another thing if that scene had been a hardcore rape scene involving tentacles...then I'd be questioning "WHAT THE FUCK, SEGA!" ;)

Must be that Corona Vaccine ;) I hear it comes with heavy doses of SJWism DNA changing properties :D :D :D it's all Bill Gate's evil plan!

STAY AWAY FROM THE SJW LIGHT, SPUT! COME BACK TO THE SIDE OF RATIONALITY! :D :D

I think its a good scene, not because its 'nice content'
but because its something that you will not find in any Assassins Creed, Watch Dogs,
Ghost of Tsushima, whatever game because its a problematic subject.
And this is pretty much a problem by itself. Creators these days are so afraid of backlash or risky themes.

But i think its good to have creators who are not afraid of taking risky paths to tell a story.
We are still talking about 100% legal content, its just risky content because of the subject.
And i believe that creators should be allowed to do whatever they want as long as they stay in the legal framework.
The point of storytelling in movies, games etc should not be to please every single person on this planet.
If you write a storyline with the intent to please everyone (with the mindset oh god, dont risk anything!),
you are pretty much always limiting yourself because it will be impossible to really go all in.

And i dont like this kind of modern internet audience approach
where people go crazy because there is something in entertainment product XYZ
that they didnt like because of moral values or whatever. Where does this thought process come from
that every entertainment product should be made for everyone? Just because we paid money for it?

We are watching thoughts, creations, stories from a different person,
in this Japan case its from people from the other side of the planet (well for me, because im in EU)
and you can decide what you like or dislike about it. Who am i to say that they are doing something wrong?
Who made me the moral value police.

Isnt it a bit weird to think that every single person from every single region
should have the same moral values for everything? Moral values are things that you learn from your parents, friends,
regional politics etc. If you could create your life twice in a alternative universe where you are born in a totally different country, theres a very very high chance that you would think in a completely different way about specific subjects.
And whos the better person then?
Imagine Nagoshi writing a story with three friends and then what ... like should Nagoshi call me here in Germany
and ask me whats okay and whats not? And who am i to tell him what is right or not?
Its his story, not mine.

Its fine if you dislike content type XYZ, but we are still talking about totally legal entertainment content,
no one is being forced to watch or play anything. So in this specific case
i think it makes more sense to simply accept that its a personal problem and be okay with that
or ignore that product from now on. I think its not the right way to call out the creators
because you think they owe you some kind of apology or explanation.
A lot of times these discussions lead to something like 'yeah but why didnt character do this or that
and then it would be fine?'. Yeah but they didnt. Who said that characters should always do the most logic
and best things in every situation? They are fictional. They are doing what the creators wrote,
why should they act like you want them to?
Sure Kiryu could have a different reaction in the situation ... if someone else wrote the story. So?
'Son Goku won against the Hulk in the Youtube video, this means Son Goku is stronger!'
No, he only won because someone created a scene where Son Goku beat the Hulk.

Imagine if we only had Ubisoft Ghost Recon story writers or all story creators would come from the same country.
That would be boring as hell. I'm pretty sure nobody wants that.
But if we want a open market for everyone, 1:1 translations and so on, we have to accept that theres always a chance
that there will be some regional moral value problems.
But its only a problem if you see it as a problem. I see it more as a trip to a different country,
not just ingame but also a trip into the head of people from another country.
Thats the part i like about it. That doesnt mean that i have to like everything about the content itself
but it also doesnt mean that i have the right to say that i'm a better human being than the creators of that product.

Btw i'm not calling out Sput or anything. Its more a general discussion.
