Shenmue’s Relevance In Modern Times

It's funny though, because for years after I had played the original Shenmue games, everyone I had tried to get into those games would say to me "it's not that great." and so here we are, 20 years later, and some people think the same about the third installment.


Well, take it as "it's not that great in regard to the serie, in regard to I and II". This way, it doesn't matter if some people didn't like I and II. That's coming from someone who liked both I and II.
 
I was playing Sherlock Holmes the devil's daughter and reminded me of this thread.
Crimes and punishment was an awesome game, it got quite a bit of media attention (for what adventure games are), TDD did not, I found out it was the "sequel' to Crimes and Punishment so I got it, and it's so bad.
It's all there, but the stories just suck, they focused on minigames and puzzles and not on a coherent story, and it bombed.
