Shenmue III on Xbox...

I'd imagine they'd just do a straight port with minimal upgrades like the PS version. I think all we got there was an uncapped frame rate now brute forcing to 60fps and some improved pop in

Gamepass would be a great move IMO. 1 and 2 were on there ages back IIRC.

Also put all 3 as freebies on PS+. That's a no brainer for me, especially after the success VF5US had.
Well let's say the Sony deal expires in 2024. Why would Deep Silver do a direct port for XSX of a PS4 game that clearly had it's technical limitations? I would think MS would want some "enhanced for XSX" features that make the game more appealing to owners of next gen hardware (by that time it would be well established as current gen, and PS4 would be last gen).

For example, the recent batch of old XBOX games that were made backwards compatible on XSX, they received updated resolutions and performance enhancements.

I just find it hard to believe that Deep Silver and/or Ys Net pick up the game that late and upgrade it for XBOX. I don't see any value. Outside of the fact that you want it to happen (I would buy it too because I own a X1S), what would be the value in reaching the smaller userbase of the XBOX brand? As someone mentioned earlier, Sega isn't even bothering with S1 and S2 on Switch, which is the best selling system at the moment.

The games are available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and all of them support Auto HDR, while many get a resolution enhancement boost. Additionally, FPS Boost has been added for 11 of the titles added today and 26 from the existing library. The third big piece of news was that FPS Boost is launching now on Xbox Cloud Gaming for 33 titles, including Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, among others.

Anyway, everything is impossible to speculate on this series because at every step of the way we are left in the dark for prolonged periods on what the future plans are. Even with the Anime, we've been given absolutely minimal information. I would love to be kept in the loop and have some fun updates on stuff. After all this time we finally got S3 to happen, now we're getting the anime, we're getting lots of collectibles, but we still really don't know the future of the series is.

Still not sure if Shenmue is back, if it's in limbo, if the anime is to test the market, everything is still wait and see. I'm throwing all my money at everything Shenmue but I don't know if it's making any difference. Someone tell us what's happening.

Since I'm an xbox player I probably will need to get into PC gaming to play it, the last thing I want is that I get a PS4 to play S3, only for then Shenmue IV to only come out on PS5

If you can buy a PS5, Shenmue 3 would work on that.

I'm not sure what would be easier to come by - a PS5 or a reasonably priced graphics card. PS4 prices have skyrocketed as well, unless you're willing to buy used.

Don't get me wrong while I want it to happen I really can't see it. We've more chance of the originals on Switch if I'm being honest.

I'd say every little thing we do as a community makes a difference, that extra bit of merch we buy, the pushes on the 4th of each month. It adds up. Unfortunately we're (as owners) in the dark as much as the rest of us. Everything is being played close to the chest and if I'm putting my money where my mouth is I'm saying that the YS project isn't Shenmue 4... not yet anyway.

But I could very easily be wrong. Our best bet, in the short term, is to support that Anime, get the merch and never go quiet.

It's really not an easy decision, I remember when the PS4 came out PS3s were discounted heavily but the PS4 isn't like this, probably because few people have a proper reason to get a PS5

I would say take your time and don't rush. In my opinion, PS5 is the best option at the moment if you can find one. I built a PC in 2019 so I've been out of the loop on what graphics cards are "best bang for your buck" but I do know the the RTX cards are way overpriced and in high demand, and that's not going to be corrected any time soon. At this rate, I don't know if I'll be able to build another PC again in the next 10 years. This might be the end of my PC gaming endeavor.

It's not a good time to be in the market for a new system, whatever you're looking for.

Are you talking about the negotiations that went on with Stadia? Or are you talking about something else?

Man, if Ys Net isn't focused on completing Shenmue, then that would lead me to believe that the series won't be continued at all. I'm sure we all have concerns about how much longer Yu Suzuki is going to be making games.

I suppose you're right, if Shenmue came out before I was born and that most fans had to wait 18 years for Shenmue III, there's no reason I can't wait a little bit longer for it

I'm talking about his announcement hope for 2022. That Stadia stuff I thought was a storm in a teacup in terms of what was/wasn't going on IIRC.

YSNET 100% have a team working there, that's a fact. What they're doing is the mystery. I agree though he's in his mid 60's so time isn't on his side in that respect.

Regarding I & II for Switch, there's a few scenarios I can think of. Firstly, a Switch version was not part of their initial plan, which means strong sales out of the gate would've been required for them to pivot and develop the Switch version immediately. Maybe the sales were good, but not good enough for them to change their plans. Remember, they might’ve had to convince SEGA Japan, who didn't help with the project at all.

Secondly, the developer d3t had very specialised knowledge, and they likely moved onto other projects for other publishers.

Or, it could've been a technical thing. Accurately recreating I & II required a surprising amount of horse power, according to one of the devs (remember, they're interpreting the original DC/Xbox code under the hood). If they were running out of headroom on PS4/Xbox, a huge amount of optimisation work would've been required to make a Switch port possible.

I think at this point if it hasn't already been announced then it's most likely because it's not happening. I don't feel like the release was well received enough for someone to pick it up this late and port it to another system. I get the feeling Deep Silver is done with Shenmue 3 now, and I also doubt that there's a significant amount of XBOX-only players who are pining and campaigning for a release.

And to what extent does Sony's exclusivity rights cover and for how long?
Its only been 2 years since its release. If it was 15 or 20 years ago when games took less time to develop, I could understand the worry, but it's not that long since the last release

brief pipedream earlier in the week; what if Sony matching Microsoft's goodwill in allowing Psychonauts 2 on PS4...

...Maybe Sony will allow Shenmue 3 onto XBOX?

That'd be nice. The difference is, a PlayStation release of Psychonauts 2 was planned for a long time, while Shenmue III was never planned for Xbox.

That would also imply Deep Silver (or Shibuya, or YS Net) pushing for an Xbox version, and I'm just not sure that's happening. Maybe it is, who knows!

Well my friend who has a PS5 now says he MIGHT give me his PS4 once he's finished with a few saved games. I'll be pretty eager to have it for Shenmue III if so. While a PS4 release of Shenmue IV may not be guaranteed, I presume it will since there are loads of triple A games being released for PS4 still and I imagine they'll want to add a transfer save file feature.

Shenmue 4 isn't even announced yet and we don't know if it's being worked on at all. My understanding is Ys Net is working on something else they hope to be able to announce this year (key word being "hope", as in maybe they will, maybe they won't).

This is only my guess, and keep in mind I'm a pessimist, but I think that if Shenmue isn't in development yet, then there's no chance in hell it comes to PS4 because it would probably take at least 3 years to develop, so if S4 is announced in 2023 and then releases in 2026, I just can't see many companies releasing games for the PS4 at that point. PS5 should be well established as the main generation by then.

Welcome to being a shenmue fan where we are left in the dark with everything and never have any clue what's going on. Right now the waiting game is when will the shenmue anime release and will it be any good, and will it be good enough to increase interest in the series to warrant another game?

But if you can snag a PS4 then go for it. It's a good time to catch a lot of games at a high discount.
