Shenmue III Staff Credits

It appears one of the lead art directors worked on the original two games and the other worked on DQXI, which explains the fantastical look of some of the NPCs. There is a good mix of people on the team with a lot of experience and people who have no other credits to their name.

It appears like he had a few old timers on the staff. I haven’t really bothered to click all the names, but I’ve found a couple. Obviously wouldn’t make a big difference since they had 200 people working on the first two games.

It would be better if they just used all the original materials rather than just recycle so much we already associate with past games. Obviously if we get a Shenmue 4 it would be good if he created some original music again before they end up running out. Or at least stop relying on the music already in past games. Some is fine but they went overboard with it.

any reason why Earth and Sea wasn't used?

thats muh jam...

So here's the 'team' without any of the outsourced roles. All the names are links, so you can see the staff's prior credits.

Some impressive credits from the lead environment artist. Makes sense given how this is singled out as one of the game's best features:

Art/Graphics
Shenmue III (2019) (Lead Environment Artist)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) (Landscape Modeling)
Xenoblade Chronicles X (2015) (Lead 3D Modeling - Backgrounds)
XenobladeX (2015) (Lead 3D Modeling - Background)
Mindjack (2011) (Lead Environment Artist)
Lost Odyssey (2007) (Background Map Model Artists)
The Bouncer (2000) (3D Background Artists)
Racing Lagoon (1999) (Course Designer)
Geom Cube (1994) (C.G. Designer)

The sound director has hundreds of credits. Makes the whole music looping situation even weirder. Who actually worked on the music if not the sound designer? There are no music credits.

Sound Production
Sound DirectorTakayuki Nakamura (a.k.a. nakataka)
Lead Sound DesignerTsubasa Waga

Great job, interesting to see how many people are new to the franchise.

I'm curious about this line:

Additional Graphics by
Gevo Entertainment Pte. Ltd., Jaeger LLC, Lakshya Digital Pvt. Ltd., Rockfish Ltd, studio bokan Inc.

Rockfish and Jaeger LLC have no other credits.

and this line:

Contributions by
Brainstorm Co., Ltd., D-bas Inc., GameStudio Inc., Hinata, Historia Inc., Implausible Industries, Million Edge, RIZ Inc., StudioFAKE Co., Ltd., Sugarcut, LLC

I suspect a lot of the 'programmers' at Ys Net were borrowed from these companies based on some of the credits that are popping up when I look at the companies and recall credits I saw when I looked at certain staffers. I know Studofake has something to do with the original games.

The Kickstarter update is accompanied by a short interview video with Okayasu, who is credited as a subdirector on Shenmue III. (That's also how he describes his role on the first two games.) He was working as president of a small Japanese development company, Studiofake, when Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki came to him and requested he work on the new game.
