What are some Lower (or Average) Rated Games that you really enjoyed?

I really want to give Godzilla on the PS4 a try. It doesn't look great, but it looks like a Godzilla game. Not sure its even available anymore though :(

If you’re a Godzilla fan, then I definitely recommend it. It’s slow, repetitive, and from what I hear, the multiplayer is broken and more of an afterthought than anything else. But if you’re looking for something that’s more like a Godzilla or Toho monster movie simulator, then this is right up your alley.

I think it’s very much like Shenmue 3 in that it feels it was created for fans. Those with a casual interest will most likely not dig it due to the gameplay and presentation in general.

I kinda agree actually. I had a great time playing it when it came out. It felt so damn good to just destroy everything your path. It felt like a budget game made with fans in mind and I thought it delivered rather well on what it promised.

I guess, given the reviews, I have to now put Shenmue III here too :D I know it has caused some backlash even among fans...but I still love it...warts and all.

Witch & Hero / World Conqueror / Kid Tripp / The Way Remastered / Golf Story / Ambition Of The Slimes / Death Road To Canada / Life Of Pixel / James Pond / Gods / Putty Squad / Yodanji

All mid/low tier games worthy of your time.

Well here are the ones for me:

1.Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2: Even though that it was a rushed game, I really liked and enjoyed it.

They improved the gameplay compare to Unleashed 1. Made the game feel faster, made controls and camera better,Made the game much less buggy. they also added mind trick.
TFU 2 has the best mind trick in star wars games. With mind trick you can:
1.Make stormtroopers jump to their death.
2.Make them fight other enemies.
3.Make 2 mind tricked stormtroopers to fight each other via using their blasters as melee weapons.
4.Make mind tricked enemies explode.
On the other hand in Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast you can just make enemies a timed friendly npc for a whort time.

In terms of force powers, TFU games are far better than Jedi Knight games.
It also had the best dismemberment in the whole Star wars games.

2.Death By Degrees: This game is a Tekken spin off game where you play as Nina Williams, this game has 3 big issues. Long loading times, using right analog stick for attacks and an annoying camera.

But playing it on PCSX2 was a good experience(Since it makes loading times much better.)

It's a 3D brawler game mixed with fun mini games. The combat animations and some of the moves are enjoyable to pull off . You also have access to lots of different melee weapons and firearms. This game also features X Ray moves that made the combat more enjoyable. The mini games were also good and a nice break between combat sections.

But you have to use left analog stick to do dodges and right analog stick for attacks which weren't good choices since they aren't that precise.

3.Second Sight: It's a 3rd person shooter game where you play as a person with no memory of his past and psychic abilities. At first you have to escape from that hospital and the more you progress the more you find out about your past. The story is really good imo.
The psychic abilities are fun to use. You have cloaking ability, ability to move objects from a distance, healing and other ones. You also have some stealth sections.

The only problem of this game is the shooting mechanic that is kinda annoying. Instead of having an aim on screen, your aim appears on the enemy and you have to move your aim like that which can make firing at enemies from a distance annoying.

4.Metal Gear Survive: As a person that didn't care about the whole Kojima vs Konami drama Metal Gear Survive is a fun survival game.
-The coop is fun,
-They added melee weapons to the fox engine which were fun to use against the zombies,
-The open world was more fun than the open world of MGS V.(More stuff to find, more variety in gameplay)
-You have some extra bossfights to fight after the main story
-the main character is the player themselves(Captain)
-despite being low budget the story was good.
-They added character progression which allow you to level up and make your character stronger.(And after finishing the game the 4 sub classes open up which you can choose which one of them that you want)
-The customization and weapon upgrades were also fun.

For me it's a 7.5/10 game.

5.Star Wars Episode 1 PC game: It's a game which journalists loved to hate due to this that it was a game adaptation of Phantom Menace. But the game is the closes action RPG star wars game that we have gotten.
-In some missions you have NPCs to talk to and do side quests for,
-You can kill every NPCs if you like.(Excluding some NPCs that insta game over you)
-You have good puzzles in the game.
-Alongside Jedis, you can also play as Padme and with Jedis you can also use blasters.
-The game expanded the locations of episode 1 well. In Gungan city you can see Gungan childs, In Naboo you can see soldiers that are fighting the droids, In Naboo you can see how some people are dealing with a droid army attacking them etc.
-I also liked platforming and combat was pretty fun.

Metal Gear Survive? Really? Totally respect your view. I found it difficult and frustrating to play. I genuinely believe I've overlooked something. Maybe my opinion was tarnished by other opinions and the gameplay I saw. My logic at the time was PSO2 meets MGS must mean win right?

If you've ever played PSO2 then you'll know that MG Survive and PSO2 have very similar monetization methodology. I enjoyed PSO2 so figured I'd enjoy MG Survive. Just found it frustrating in all honesty.

What do you think I'm missing??

I don't know about PSO2.

Survive was kinda the first open world survival game that I played.

I always have to wonder when my opinion on a video game is polarizing to another person's view.

For example: I don't like Final Fantasy X, I got bored with that tbh. A lot of folks describe it as an amazing RPG. The whole thing left my cold. For a time I right I was missing something lol

I had a ton of fun with the Kung Fu Chaos demo that came the Official Xbox Magazine. I just remembered I actually bought the game off eBay about five years ago. Would love to see a rerelease, especially seeing as Microsoft now owns Ninja Theory.

Silent Hill 4: The Room

One of the scariest games in the series. I still don't understand why it's considered the black sheep of the original games. Silent Hill 3 was criticised for bringing nothing really new to the series, and so they understandably went the experimental route with the next game. Then all of a sudden, Silent Hill 4 sucks because it's too experimental? Silent Hill fans are impossible.

I haven't played SH 3 and 4.
But that "brought nothing new" phrase reminds me of my time with SH 2. Because SH 2 brought nothing to the franchise gameplay wise.

SH 2 was basically SH 1 with better graphics and better story, but gameplay wise it was worse.(Less enemy types, worse bossfight battles, unbalanced hard difficuly)

I personally don't know why some fans want Kojima to buy that ip from Konami. If he does that then he has to deal with the awful SH fanbase.(I agree with you on that that SH fans are one of the worst)

SH4 rocked, well the first half did. Loved the setting (both the room and the various areas you visit). Its only when the game turned into a escort mission did things get annoying for me due to ally AI. But I still love those games. Heck, I really like parts of Downpour as well.

Sega GT
I don't think the game is viewed as average, I'm sure he's got a fair number of good reviews at the time. But it's a fair critic to say the gameplay is quite terrible when you have Gran Turismo 2 on PlayStation (and Bleem...). The game also suffered from some lack of originality.

Nonetheless, the sound design and the weird desolated and lifeless environments gives the game an unique and fascinating charm. A charm that I only found again in a DLC of Gran Turismo 5: the Special Stage Route X. An atmosphere fascinatingly boring.

As you could expect from a Gran Turismo ripoff, Sega GT had ton of contents and nice visuals but the top is the amazing soundtrack. Probably my favorite ever in a video game. Few people remember of the music because you could barely hear it ingame but it featured some true unique master pieces (Sky Peak, Night Section, Solid Circuit, Game Ending) while being very different from Takenobu Mitsuyoshi & Sega usual style. Sadly, the brilliant artist is not formally credited and his unique style makes his identity impossible to guess.

The game has also the particularity to be a Sega racer never released in Arcade. It was specifically made for Dreamcast.

Virtua Striker
Again, I think it's a very appreciated game even today by connoisseurs. But since VS2, the gameplay has obvious issues with the horrible latency to begin with. You also depends on a radar to perform well and the gameplay is unbalanced as you can trick the CPU to score easily. It's your typical old school football game where tactic seems a forbidden word. Simply said, you can think it's a gentle cute piece of crap.

However, the games are filled with some unmatched qualities. The secret teams, the International mode of Virtua Striker 3, the crazy (non-)commentaries, the typical Sega's art direction full of unrealistic colors, the PK mode, the simple controls, fast loading.

On top of that, the replays are the most rewarding replays of all time: music track and filming change according the beauty of your goal. Each goal is rated with a score so you can compare your achievements with other players. Collective goals and exceptional skills are the way to reach the biggest scores so it's highly addictive and encourage you to play well rather to focus on gameplay glitches.
In the same logic, you have the Ranking mode where you have to play some matches in a row and you get a rating and critical comment at the end.

One of the most brilliant football games along with Rocket League and Pro Evolution Soccer. Can't wait to find a way to play VS4 in emulator, although I don't know what to expect since they added a fourth button to run.

Trying to find Beach Spikers and Virtua Striker on Gamecube badly.

VS as a realistic footy game is just no. Hell no. The controls are bizarre if you've played a lot of FIFA/Pro Evo - But it has something really special. There's a quality. The viewpoint is weirdly interesting. The goal scoring system is almost amazing. The career mode is quite clever. I like it. It just resonates with me.

Speaking of VS, people continued to upload videos last year:

This bloke scored some marvelous goals:

Another one gave tribute to the secret teams of Virtua Striker

I feel a 'Virtua Striker Dojo' coming on lol. Seriously though thanks so much for the links. Awesome to see and great to interact with folks who like what I do. Much respect.

I don’t know many scores, Metacritic or otherwise, off the top of my head, so I’ll just go with what I’ve seen to be poorly received or at least got mediocre reception, more so just by other people at the time of release or just prior.

Travis Strikes Again
Killer is Dead
Flower Sun and Rain
Deadly Premonition
The Last Guardian
Drakengard 3
Drakengard...mostly for the story
Metroid: Other M...same as above, hates the gameplay but thought the story was ok
God Hand
Grand Theft Auto IV
Donkey Kong 64
Kirby Star Allies
Earth Defense Force? Not sure if any I enjoyed actually got negative reception
Zelda: Adventure of Link
Zelda: Majora’s Mask
Zelda: The Wind Waker
Zelda: Skyward Sword
Halo Reach
Halo Wars
Sekiro? hard to tell when so many claim it’s a “bad Souls game” despite being its own thing, and winning so many Goty awards
Yakuza Dead Souls
Devil’s Third
Shadow the Hedgehog...much to my surprise
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Sonic Unleashed
Final Fantasy V...pretty sure it was my first FF
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy XV Pocket edition...for what little I played of it, I preferred how streamlined it was to how boring the actual XV is
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes

Lastly, I vaguely remember a really budget arcade game on the 360 called something like Avatar Paintball. Not 100% sure. Whatever it was, it was pretty dumb, but good for whenever the friends I had back then would get bored of Halo or GTA or whatever else. Similarly, there was this 1 vs 100 thing, which was fun enough in acting like I didn’t know some obvious questions and inversely acting confident I knew ones I had no clue about.
