Where to pre-order Shenmue 3

I mean, then again, I'm not even concerned to get the content myself :sneaky:
But yeah, I didn't had a clue either. In fact, I litterally noticed right now we're getting one move scroll and one advanced move scroll. As for the jacket, it'd be amazing if we'd be getting the original Shenmue jacket in Dreamcast low poly glory.

As for the phone card, I really wonder which voice actors they could get on board. It'd suck a bit if they all had a different voice.

I have refused to go back and look at the KS rewards because I would get too excited. Even this discussion is getting my excitement going. My immediate instinct is to hold onto those scroll as for as long as I can. No doubt most people will cash them in early, on moves that will probably be easy to obtain/master. Im gonna save them for later on, as if it matters, because I will be playing this game so slowly to 100% everything anyways.

That's a thought I did have about the phonecard last week actually, after all the hoopla about KS rewards and who gets what etc, both fans on the divide are going to be disappointed when the original voice actors are not back reprising their roles (at least as far as we are aware). It kinda makes the whole reward less impressive than what it ever was supposed to be. It will still be cool to hear what the characters are up to, but its like only 50% of what Shenmue fans are used to since they know and hold the original voice actors in high regard.

Honestly, I'm a bit annoyed that two techniques and the ingame phone card might be Kickstarter exclusive. I think that really sucks considering the kind of content it is. And I'm saying that as someone who backed the game at the 300 dollars tiers, so the signed collector edition, so I'm still getting that exclusive content. I wouldn't mind if they were offered tro regular buyers for free or even for a small price.
(Although I'm really excited for the techniques).
Honestly I figure some portion of the digital stuff will eventually become DLC, but even if not - like Peter said - it's two moves among one hundred plus. You know what I mean? In the big picture it's small potatoes, nothing fundamental is being held back. Same with the phone card, as it sounds like there will be some functionality there even for players without that reward.

And it's Kickstarter. Incentives to get backers to go for the higher tiers is about as fair game as it gets, and we can't really fault them for providing rewards people might actually want; instead of more trinkets and baubles.

Really hoping that GAME doesn't latch onto exclusivity of it here in the UK. The Pre-Order for the standard Edition is £54.99... Looks pretty Epic though and I hope to get one by a reasonable means.

Sigh I'm really going to have to start putting some money aside for any sudden merchandise surprise in the next few months :p

I just read the KS comments about the preorder exclusives...:sneaky:...never read the KS comments.

I don't think we've seen anything of the artbook or capsule toys in backer updates(?)...and physical rewards seem like the sort of stuff we'd get updates on...day one seems unlikely for the Collector's Edition and other physical rewards. I could be wrong, but if that is going to be the case, they should really let people know soon.

A digital copy wouldn't go astray if the physical versions are going to take a while ☕

Not to sound negative about the whole exclusive rewards endless debate and (kind of) unexpected reactions for a 2" medallion for pre-ordering Shenmue III, but I'm starting to think that we haven't seen the end of moaning and whining from both backers expecting to get everything and more than what they've pledged for and people feeling unfairly treated because they don't get what backers do.

Who has forgotten the "Exclusive rewards on PayPal" poll debacle?
Poll Results
The results are in for the poll posted in the final update of last year asking whether or not Kickstarter Exclusive Rewards should be made available for the Slacker Backer PayPal campaign.

The polling period lasted from December 24, 2015 to January 1, 2016. All Kickstarter Backers who pledged for a reward of $5 or more were eligible to vote. Of the 68,533 eligible Kickstarter Backers, there were 15,110 respondents.

The poll results are posted below. 4,670 of the respondents answered, “Yes, please make the Kickstarter Exclusive Rewards available on PayPal.” 4,009 respondents answered, “No, Kickstarter Exclusive Rewards are for Kickstarter only.” And 6,432 answered, “Either is fine with me.”

Considering the strong response from those of you who felt that the Exclusive Rewards should remain exclusive for the Kickstarter, those Exclusive Rewards will not be made available on the PayPal page as originally promised.

Maybe I'm having a bad day, but at the moment I'm very pessimistic about some people capacity to look further than their own benefit. The worse being I was kind of expecting some negative reaction about exclusive stuff for the retailers versions, from backers that were caught in the collective fever surrounding Shenmue III's Kickstarter, but honestly not from die hard fans who "paid the game day one" (Just to be clear, I'm taking about some reactions on social media, not about this current discussion).

I just read the KS comments about the preorder exclusives...:sneaky:...never read the KS comments.
The KS comments are where logic, reason, and intelligent thought all go to die. There's legitimately someone getting mad they have to pay to buy a PS4 to play the game on. Like... did you expect Ys Net to give you a PS4 too?

Entitled fucking babies, man.

Prepare yourself for more negative comments when the Kickstarter copies and goodies dont arrive on the release day
but all of the normal retail buyers can play.

Lets say they ship the normal retail version but with a exclusive backer game case + the other goodies.
So they have to wait for the final retail boxes and then combine them with all the Kickstarter goodies
and then send them to the backers. Shipping time + customs on top.

If they dont do this in July or earlier, these things will never ever arrive on time.

I've never had KS items turn up on time and usually if it's something that's big and makes it to retail, then yeah, I'm sat twiddling my thumbs waiting whilst normal consumers can go out and purchase whatever it is.

It is what it is. Every time it happens there's people bitching, so expect it at an even larger scale for Shenmue 3, particularly from those who are new to KS.

On the surface, I get the anger. You paid months or years in advance for something, you're part of the reason it exists and then normal people can just go out and buy it on the store shelf on day one whilst you wait. Why did you even bother backing it, you will probably wonder

The thing is, it's just unavoidable. One, they won't have distribution centres in every single country in the world. They will have one, maybe two, maybe three max, so you will have to wait for international shipping. Two, logistics isn't their thing (their priority is making the product). It will be outsourced and as it's a crowdfunded project, they don't have vast sums of money at their disposal to spend on the best and fastest international shipping in the world. Three, they are shipping huge numbers, which takes time to get through.

It is what it is.

Urgh. This is becoming ridiculous very quickly. I don't know how many times people have to say it but they have to entice non-backers, of whom the market is huge, to buy the game. If they don't do this then they risk sales and Shenmue 4.

These people also forget that within the Kickstarter rewards there are some items that are likely to be one of a very small batch, eg the artbook 1 of 30,000 or less for example. Jacket 1 of like 100 or less. Some tiers put you in the game, signing a book in a temple, name in the credits & people moan about extras for general public pre-orders..... Seriously what planet are they on?

People chose to back the kickstarter knowing what reward you would get. People will choose a pre-order/unique edition they want knowing that's what they are getting. All this entitlement is becoming a farce and quickly.

Honestly at that point there's no hope of explaining it to them.

They're barely able to grasp a concept beyond indignant, inert rage, let alone how international shipping logistics are supposed to work.

:p so true.

Quite odd, although they were done with Dreamcast by 2003, around here. Totally overdoing it, wtf!

Hearing about limited edition, so glad I'm spacing my preorders out one month at a time. For whatever reason, I didn't assume Deep Silver would do anything collector. Should be able to get LE in my last preorder.

Yeah, it was bizzare and said group of friends took off school (was exam week) and went to our local mall (which has an EB) and we all witnessed him getting escorted out and we were all, "WTF?!"

You're going to have so many copies of 'mue III lol

Most of the backers are not fans, they are people who saw this game that everyone was excited for right after FF7R was revealed at the largest gaming event in the world. They frankly, do not care if the game is a success or if there is a Shenmue 4. This is not supposed to be offensive to them either, it is just to be expected. Also, what tier did you need to back for the telecom card?

I might be going off topic, but as we are talking about Kickstarter rewards, hopefully it'll be OK.

One of my main worries is that the use of real life assets in the game might be a little immersion breaking. If I paid $700+, I know i'd definitely want to see my face in the game or on a dice, so I don't begrudge these backers at all (and I thank them very much for their pledge!). Does this make sense? I am certain that this will be implemented nicely, but it's hard to say!

I must admit having paid $300, I would be upset if I didn't get the game day one, but if there is going to be collectors editions, I might just take the plunge and get a 2nd copy seeing as that $300 was spent nearly 4 years ago!

Keeping KS copy sealed, one retail copy sealed, the LE sealed, one retail to open for myself, then one to give away to my best friend. Probably going to walk-in buy a copy at a random store a week or so after release like I did after my pre-orders of HD, then give to my brother. Probably buy one last Shen3 around the holidays for my cousin's xmas gift.

Plus, I'll be buying it on PSN, too. Shenmue and Yakuza and Ueda get both download and physical purchases from me. Nice to have a disc in there, then quickly fire up Colossus remake or Last Guardian without taking the other game out of the drive.

Funny thing is, I'm not very well off haha. Blue collar and belong in the lowest tax bracket. Yet, my adulting priorities feel perfectly fine because Shenmue. Always room in budget for Shenmue.

People who pledged during the Kickstarter at the higher tiers (above sixty) are already getting much better merchandise then a replica trinket of the Dragon and Phoenix Mirrors. How many people can say they are getting the Matsukaze jacket, the exclusive Timex watch replica worn by Ryo in game, or dinner with the legendary game developer themselves? The only people who would be pissed by this are those who only put in the bare minimum. You can’t always get what you want, so either put more money in or accept that you get what you pay for.
