General RGG Discussion

Yeah, I do wonder how content will be separated up per town, they've not actually shown off all that much all things considered... not that I'm complaining as it'll be a bigger surprise when its released.

Anyway, stumbled upon some snippets of gameplay from the stream last week. Basically the first part of the first chapter of the game:

The first video shows Arakawa's youth, story wise this already has me deeply interested, as far as villains go, I reckon he's going to be up there with the best. Also, I really love how the opening Ichiban cutscene goes directly from video to chase gameplay.
The result of the chase (not really shown in that vid, but I've seen it elsewhere) and the end of the second vid show Ichiban being a Yakuza. A really terrible one at that, no wonder why Sawashiro always beats him (literally, he beats the crap out of him regularly) for not making money. He definitely feels like a loveable goofball.

If anything they probably have shown more spoilery things than youd expect, they have a bad tendency to blow their load like that in pre release material. Like that stuff of ichiban confronting the villain in the at gunpoint in that recent trailer is probably at the end of the game if not after the final boss.

That's Yakuza in a nutshell really. Judge Eyes did essentially the same thing, they showed part of the final set piece in one of the early trailers, so I knew the game wasn't over until I saw said part! Also, the splash screens they have on the home screen/boot up are littered with their own spoilers, if you pay attention to certain characters shown (basic Yakuza maths is characters shown on home screen = all main characters, character not shown doing anything major yet = late game twist!). Rings absolutely true for twists in both Yakuza 6 and Judge Eyes for sure. Though in 7's case I feel most of the plot is somewhat easier to grasp going in, especially when using more Yakuza maths (face scanned characters = main characters, not returning for sequels). And as only two particular characters hold this for 7...
But then 7 also has all the Omi and Tojo stuff as well, which I still can't place in any timeline. Its gonna be a fun game though, going by the latest stream (which showed off all of chapter 1), they've already done a great job of ringing in the new main characters and getting their personalities down, I'm already hooked on the game and its not out yet!

I personally dont really mind these spoilery kind of fast cut trailers
because yes, a lot of times you can see clips from the ending, the prologue or other stuff
but i dont have the context. I see that something happens but i dont know why or how or when.
As long as they dont show the full scene and tell me every little detail,
i dont have a problem with these trailers.

Sometimes it even helps me when i'm at a part in a game that is a bit boring
because then i remember the things from the trailers and it gets me through the boring parts.

Trailers are a funny thing...I think some games can get away with it better than others. With Yakuza, many seem to fly by so fast that it’s really hard to take it all in any commit any of it to memory, especially with games that tend to have a ton of story content. Compare that to, for example, Metal Gear Solid V, where I’m almost certain that near about every single cutscene was used in some way in a trailer, as was a ton of dialogue, even scenes that didn’t make it to the final product, and you have a recipe for major disappointment when most of the game is following slow bread crumb trails with extremely minor characters with few major scenes hours apart.

Thats true too, but they really overdid it with MGS V, i mean they made 5-10 minute long "trailers"
where they just showed full cutscenes of the final game and then they took all of the other thrilling story parts
to make it look like this will have the greatest story of all time and these clips are just the beginning.
But there was nothing else in the game, they already showed everything they got.
Its just fake.

Some more gameplay for Yakuza 7, now featuring new party members! Zhao is the triad shown in several trailers, and of course who could forget Joon Gi Han from Yakuza 6, I sure haven't, especially his last boss fight... still no explanation as to how the heck he's showing up in 7!

it really depends on the trailer, yakuza i usually think does it well mainly cause its opening anyway do contain pretty spoilery stuff but they rarely actually ruin stuff, the judgement trailers were almost all from like the last act of the game and aside from spoling where the final set piece would be (its painfully obvious it'd be there anyway) it really didnt ruin much.

On the flip side, stuff like mgs5 and FFXV had super spoiler trailers that did actually detract from the game knowing what happens in them, i heard death stranding's launch one did too but i thankfully didnt watch that one and got to experience that batshit insane finale all on its own.

Even though Im never in the festive spirit, looks like Sega is, with some nice new Yakuza 7 details spilling out. Karting, Pokemon? and... Majima:

Its Kamuro Kart... seems that while you race for the most part in Yokohama you go over to Tokyo for the finals.

Some sort of unique battles by the sounds of it. What are the chances RGGS make a more engaging Pokemon game than Nintendo did this year?

And speaking of fights (late game - probably - spoilers...)

I have no words for those pics. Other than... hype in overdrive... there's little chance this game isn't my 2020 GOTY with all the content they are introducing.

And a new trailer showing off much of the details outlined in the latest Famitsu article:

Shows off new summons, party members, mini games/side story stuff, new classes in action, all three towns (briefly). Not long now...

That dominatrix job class...holy shit , I am so ready for this game! Almost there...

Han joon gi is basically the thing im most interested in, like everything about him being there is wtf but the idea of him getting more screentime and a redemption arc is fucking awesome to me.

I just hope that they dont go super crazy with the story now too.
I have no problem with funny / awkward / ridiculous side missions, mini games or classes (jobs)
but i hope the story will still have the old serious tone with serious themes.
I think i wouldnt like it very much, if the story is totally insane and crazy now. I'm okay with some hyper mode scenes,
like for example the skateboard scene in Judgment, it can be cool if it comes out of nowhere, but it all needs a nice balance.
If every scene and character is just crazy and over the top, then i cant enjoy it anymore.
I need parts where i can catch my breath, quiet parts, emotional parts.
So i hope the writing style of the story didnt change too much.
I really dont want a Yakuza game with 200 hours of playtime where everything is just crazy and insane.

If there is one thing this team does well is balance goofy with serious. I have faith they won’t go overboard with the goofiness for Y7 (as always)

Anyone who has played Yakuza knows Oicho Kabu :)

Chapter 1 cutscenes very much prove that there's plenty of serious moments to come in the game. The very first scenes of the chapter are super serious and heavy (and damn good at that). They are very much going for a serious tone with the story itself, Ichiban is a loveable goofball but the plot around him with Aoki Ryo, Bleach Japan and the gang wars are very much serious.

Makes sense, as Ninty was originally a card manufacturer.

At least they are still sticking to their roots, lol.

I'm preordering RGG my next paycheque (2 weeks from now, so the 10th), plus with shipping time, looks like I'll be playing the first week on February or so; can't wait! :D

Some guides (like Kouryakutsushin or whatever) should be out by then as well.

BTW, has anyone found out who's doing the opening theme for the title?

EDIT* https://www.moshimoshi-nippon.jp/254599

Oh, hell. *******. YES!!!!!!!!! Shonen no Kaze = <3

I’m confused - is 7 getting a worldwide release? So far as I’ve been able to find, only a Japanese release date has been given.

I only get the Japanese version; can't wait the extra time, prefer the Japanese voice acting and the music as well, as all of it is not licensed for the rest of the world.

I've played Ishin! 3 times; no dubs or subs hasn't stopped me from enjoying one of the best games in the series.
