If this rumor is true, I'm of a similar mind.Controversial thing to say, but at this point, I wouldn't mind if it died and then maybe they could move onto something brand new.
While I don't think it to be a fated result, I really hope RGG doesn't fall into the trap that we've seen with Sonic Team: once Naka leaves, the crew-- though possessing genuine talent-- lose a sense of guiding vision. They stick to what is said (by higher ups) to work, and they become stagnant. Creativity suffers.
I agree with some who've said it'd be nice for Sonic Team to be able to take a break, truly refresh (the fans have to wait a long time between games, anyway), and then return to the series with new ideas.
It surely helps that the RGG franchise now has two concurrent projects-- a little variety is nice both for developers and fans-- but Sega has this tendency to wring the rag dry. It appears that Sega's (understandably) afraid to try new IPs, but I suspect they may start to pump these out for cash flow, esp. if Nagoshi's not there to provide some originality. (It seems that, unlike some franchises, he's particularly involved in keeping things from stagnating.)
