Hello,

I've been debating getting a 4k tv for a while & now the downstairs tv has packed in.

So I'm moving my current gaming tv downstairs and will be buying a new tv.

I am needing recommendations on 4k tvs.
It must have a SCART socket and component socket. Ideally 3 hmdi sockets.

It must be able to output 240p as I have a hdretrovision cable for the mega drive.

40inch or above. I'm in the UK.

Thanks in advance

Great idea for a topic Spud.

I've been dabbling with the idea of upgrading my TV to 4K. But there seems to be so many variants, cost levels, added features etc. to really make sure you are getting that true 4K experience. I mean buying a 4K TV for £500 doesn't seem to be worth it since it doesn't have certain features. Apparently buying a 4K TV really does the saying, "you get what you pay for" apply to it.

It's not as simple as buying a normal HD tv which is rather annoying I think. Lots of research needs to be done into 4k tvs when buying which doesn't help us as the consumer

Recommendation givers: Don't forget to factor in input lag time, and/or the ability to turn off all the sort of smoothers and "TrueVision" type post processing that could affect things.

EDIT: I believe there's a homebrew .gdi floating around out there that all it does is test input lag on flatscreens.

I bought my 4K tv last year from a local shop called Richer Sounds. They do some really great deals on tv's and all of them come with 6 years guarantee which is fantastic. My specific model seems to be discontinued according to LG - https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-43UH603V

However richer sounds have the newer model of the same tv I think - https://www.richersounds.com/promotions/summer-tvs/lg-43uk6300plb.html

£399 with 6 years guarantee, I promise you you can't go too far wrong for an awesome budget 4K tv, someone with the technical prowess might be able to discredit certain things, but once you see this tv in action, especially upgrading from a 1080p tv, you'll be blown away!

How is it with running the retro stuff? E.g. mega drive, Saturn etc?

I can vouch for Richer Sounds. Super long warranty and have replaced faulty TVs for me without issue in the past. Haven't plunged for the 4k yet as I can never make a decision and my current TV isn't that old... but will need to do it before Shenmue III. It's the only reason I bought a PS4 Pro! Let us know if you pick out a gooden.

Haven't tried it out with those consoles sorry dude, I have an older tv for my retro, just because of connections and stuff - scart etc.

I do have a Dreamcast hooked up via an Akura box, and I think it's the Akura box's problem tbh, because i've spoken with Scribe and his Akura is the same, but the picture is rather grainy looking, and not as sharp as the Toro or Hanzo box. It also doesn't let you go fullscreen, so it is displayed 4:3...which is normal I guess, but was hoping the TV would let me alter the settings, but these modern tv's for some reason don't let you alter the size of the display anymore, like manually stretching :(

The TV is pretty limited in regards to retro I guess, it only has 3 HDMI ports but it does have Component outputs, so that would be good for hooking up an original xbox softmodded to 720p / 1080i!

I really want the OLED Sony A8 or A1.
Besides being absolutely brilliant top notch visually, they contain imbeded speakers and subwoofer in the screen/unit. Which would eliminate my need for my sound bar and sub woofer. Less wires and less stuff. So I am saving my money for that atm.

I bought a 50 inch LG 4K HDR at the end of 2016 and while it looks great in 4K, I dont really have anything that outputs in that resolution outside of what comes with the Smart TV Apps and most of that stuff is subscription based anyway. I figured I future proofed myself at least for a little while anyway, but I dont really know much about 4K but I know cable TV hasnt caught up yet. Does Netflix, Hulu and the big streaming apps support it yet? I know Amazon Prime Video has a few 4K shows and movies but not much.

My friend has that TV and likes it. I am also told it outputs at 240p by LG. It is certainly under consideration.
