Character Breakdown Videos

Nice video @shengoro86 looking forward to the follow up. Ren is definitely more complex than many other characters, wonder if we'll see him on a horse next up. Would like a take on him and Joy, what's their thing?

... but Xiuying and Ren hooking up? Nah! Maybe. Hmm. If they meet (which would be cool) I can see Xiuying judging Ren and him being annoyed at her holier than thou attitude, some comedy potential and some warmth if she gets a glimpse of Rens softie side.

Would be cool! Although I think she already met him before. Especially since he is very connected to Joy.
 
@shengoro86 didn't think he wanted her (saw that clip), but wonder how they met, what's their dynamics. No reason she'd be friends with Ren really, but she seems to be and cares about Wong (well, everybody cares about Wong!)

I think Xiuying's only heard of him, otherwise she'd know he isn't all that scary, no?

But you brought up orphanage as an explanation for his personality, cray cray idea, but maybe he knows Fangmei? I'd like that. That'd be a connection point to Xiuying.

I'm guessing Joy knows Ren because of her dad being big in the business scene. Seeems like Ren would be one to dabble in that to fund his gang.
As for Xuying knowing him, too many loose ends for me to tell IMO.
hmmm maybe he also came from that orphanage? sounds like too easy of a story to tell but would be interesting nonetheless!

Xiuying knows him because she knows the gang is dangerous.

It would make sense for an elder master to know about danger in their backyard.
 
When Xiuying takes Ryo to the Da Yuan Apartments, Ryo can ask Xiuying about Yuanda Zhu but I don’t remember exactly how the dialogue goes; I’m pretty sure that Xiuying implies that she knows about Yuanda Zhu’s whereabouts.

This seemingly contradicts a later part in the game when she herself asks Ryo about Yuanda Zhu’s whereabouts to which Ryo relies that ‘Ren of Heavens might know something’ or something along those lines.

This has always confused me about Xiuying. Why didn’t she just tell Ryo that she didn’t know where he was? Or perhaps she wanted to give Ryo the impression that she knew where he was so Ryo would stick around and she could talk him out of getting revenge. If the latter is the case then there’s no telling how many more layers there are to Xiuying! This may apply to a lot more characters and we’re still having to figure it out.

I could be wrong, though. There are so many theories with Shenmue. Great writers, great story, great game.

Yeah there are a lot of things that are either poorly translated or very layered in terms of storytelling. "My father must have know that Lan Di was coming." "It appears this letter arrived too late."

I always assumed Xiuying knew a bit about Yuanda Zhu but didn't really know all the details about what's currently going on with him, but she wanted to make sure Ryo was ready before continuing his persuit...
