Considering the Flintstones was a cartoon from the 60s, I wonder how this got past the censorship.

Apparently what writers used to do is insert jokes that were deliberately too risqué so that the censors would catch them; this would mean that the less crude replacements they came up with were more likely to get through.

This joke was one that was supposed to be caught.
 
From what I've heard, older cartoons like the Looney Tunes and the Flintstones weren't exactly for kids. They had a lot of adult humor. The Flintstones even promoted cigarettes.
