I know some here have already played it, but whatever. Deserves its own topic so everything doesn't fall into the Yakuza thread once the game is released.
Anyway, I was making it a point not to watch a bunch of playthrough videos or anything; as a ridiculous FotNS fan, I want the game to be as much of a surprise as possible when I play it, but the allure of a gameplay trailer is too much for me to resist.
Hate the english voices, but everything else looks minty fresh. Love the level of violence.

I said it on the old forums, but I kind of hope this becomes a regular thing for Sega; adapting old anime franchises with their basic Yakuza game formula. This whole setup would work so well for so many different shows.

Awesome!

I'm pretty much new to all things FotNS so this game will be my first engagement with this IP. I'm buying it not just because it's from RGG Studios but the gameplay genuinely looks brilliant, especially the combat and juggling abilities. And there's something great about seeing the Kiwami engine return here, it really compliments this aesthetic.

It also one of the fewer instances that I'll be playing with the English dub. This is because it'll help sets itself apart quite nicely from the Yakuza games, hearing those familiar actors in the Japanese VO detracts for me and doesn't help set it apart (as it kinda did for me when [briefly] experiencing the demo, some subtle animations/some music etc were from Yakuza and it kinda took me out of it. English VO will help set it apart imo).

Looking forward to it's October 2nd release date!

You Are Already DEAD!

I've wanted to embrace this series but like with most Animes it's hard to know how to. I see there are PS3 games called Ken's Rage which follows the actual canon story unlike this game - Well the 2nd game covers all of it when the 1st game has like 1/3. I kind of want to experience the original canon story before playing this off-shoot/alternative timeline title.

I already have the Japanese version. I’m a long time fan of both Yakuza and Hokuto no Ken, so I thought it was a good mix. I think Kuroda Takaya does Kenshiro rather well. He captures both his masculine and vulnerable qualities.

Hearing Majima’s and Gouda’s voice actors sounded weird without them speaking in Osaka accents lol. If you understand Japanese, it’s something you can appreciate to some extent.

It is faithful to the source material by also offering an original story

That's probably a good idea. If you're inclined, the entire tv series (all 152 episodes) is available on bluray for somewhere around 60-70 bucks. Sounds like a lot, but it's surprisingly affordable for that many episodes.
I love the Ken's Rage games myself, but they are offshoots of Koei's Dynasty Warriors games, so they can get really, really repetitive, and I totally get it if people don't dig them much. They're hard to recommend gameplay-wise, but yeah, the second game does cover pretty much the entire story.

Hokuto ga Gotoku does get repetitive too in the Yakuza way

It does have a hostess game, but none of them are based on porn stars LOL

But the action is still pretty unique and I enjoyed the fights against Jagi and Rei. I do hope for a sequel based on the Ashura arc.

I love Fist of the North Star a lot but I'm not going to play this game solely because its just another Yakuza game. The boring repetitive combat, the half baked minigames that this time don't even fit in with the world, I don't know about the story but knowing Yakuza I'm sure its nothing good, all the classic Yakuza traits are here and obvious.

I played the demo and watched some gameplay and all I see is another lazy asset flip from the Yakuza team disguised as something else. If you've played any Yakuza game for even 5 minutes its abundantly obvious thats what this is. Lazy lazy lazy. I honestly can't believe there are people that want this team to do Shenmue

Haven’t gotten that

As for Yakuza’s fighting being repetitive, the situation makes more sense in Hokuto no Ken as opposed to real life Kabukicho. In Kabukicho, Nigerians will annoy you to go to their bar

In one of the trailers it shows Ken putting in a cartridge and playing what looked like a FoTNs game. Now it was the Japanese Trailer, am hoping that the game has some old school fist games in it.

Hokuto no Ken for the Sega MKIII (Master System) is also included in the game to play. Like the arcade games you find it out in the wastelands via a bounty. After that you speak to the arcade operator and he'll set the game up for you in your safe house. From there just interact with the TV/console there to start the game up. I found it fairly fun to play, its pretty limited in terms of combat and level design but I found it fun to play in between other activities. I probably spent a good few hours playing it, the final boss fight caused me a bit of trouble since he can trounce you so quick, and you only get a tiny number of lives!

Unfortunately that's the only new retro game added. I wanted the ASW 2D fighter based on FOTNS added into the game (Sega pubished the game at least for the PS2 port).

If there's one minor issue I can level with Lost Paradise its the length of the story. Its one of the shorter Yakuza games in that regard, but the boss fights and combat are up there as the best (in my opinion), the combat is fleshed out quite a bit compared to Yakuza so you can really start pulling off some fun combos, especially against bosses. The chapter 7 boss fight is one of my favourite in the entire (Yakuza) series. But I guess if you don't enjoy the Yakuza series, you might not enjoy this either (I really loved it, could have done without the rare item grind for the 100% mind you!)

That's the thing; the story is fantastic from an enjoyability and element POV, but pacing sucks and it is quite short.

Yet this game has you grinding forever to get all the trophies. Ugh.

Still an awesome title :D

I agree the boss battles (especjally against Rei, Jagi and Raoh) are all unique and I enjoyed them. I’m hoping in future installments, we can have the option to play as mulitiple characters. I’d love to play as Rei as he takes on Judah like in the manga. Or as Batto, Toki and Rin.

I won’t be surprised if a sequel gets made because I would give it a shot.

Souther is the best boss fight in the game (in my opinion). They manage to portray his power and weakness in the fight perfectly, Can't wait to replay that chapter yet again when the game comes out in English. And yeah, I think a sequel might well happen, its sure set up perfectly for one that's for sure. And I'd import it day 1 no doubt about it.

Yup. They kinda Ishin'ed the 100% for this game (super grindy) which did get annoying at points - especially going for all the talismen (which had you redoing races, fighting arena and casino loads) but the real evil grind was the super rare item drops in both the wastelands an the arena. I actually got the wasteland drops pretty quick, but the arena ones took forever, as you had to wait for the gold enemies to spawn, then hope they drop the correct items...

Then again, this is only really an issue if your nuts like me and love doing the 100% grinds. The casino was actually pretty darn fun, as you could make insane amounts of money real quick with the gambler charm equipped.

I don't know a thing about the anime but this does look cool...

Southern was great, too. I do agree the game captures him perfectly with his pressure points being reversed.

In addition to a sequel, I wouldn’t mind a game based on souten no ken

yesterday was the Sega localization and marketing conference at Pax west
and they said they couldnt use the original japanese game cover art
because you can see a little bit of side boob and a lot of the rating companies outside of japan like ESRB
wont allow something like this as cover art if you want to sell it in regular shops.

thats why they had to "cheat" and they made the cover art reversible so that you can change it yourself.

I'm just barely familiar with the source material (part of that being the Gary Daniels live-action movie...), but this game really does look cool. If it's on a previous Yakuza engine and follows the same basic formula, then I'm down like a clown.

Got this bitch on pre-order.
