Hey guys, I thought now was the right time to tell you all that me and my girlfriend are expecting a baby boy in October, and we couldn’t be more pleased!

I wouldn’t normally think to post something this personal on a forum but you guys are my family and considering I joined this place when I was only 16, and I’m now 32....I want to share it with you all. Thanks again for always being a community that can distract me from the stress of day to day life and I hope the warmth and buzz of the forums continue long into the future!

Massive congratulations mate. Im sure you're gonna make a great dad.

Get your beauty sleep now while you can :)

Hey im 32 now and just had a boy this year too! Nice!
Congratulations. It’s a great feeling to be a dad. Just knowing one day you can share hobbies together is such an exciting feeling.

Congratulations to you and your girlfriend, Birty! No child could ask for better than a Shenmue parent.

An optional name for my boy was "Ryosuke" so "Ryo" for short.
Ya my wife put an end to that notion once she remembered why I like that name.

See, that^ is where patriarchy would've done a better job.

When push came to shove, I didn't want to name my first born son after a video game character either.
Also we will move back to America eventually and the name doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

*Everytime someone try's to read his name allowed for the first time..*

Black lady: "Uhh... is there a "RaYosookey" here? A "Rayosukee"
My son: "Uh ya it's pronounced RiYoSuekay"
Black lady: "Well damn honey you tryin give me a seizure?"
My son: "I hate my father. My new name is Tom."

And so I named him Tomas.
Toma for short in Japan.
And actually makes sense for my last name.

How weird is this? I live in Greater Manchester (around the Rochdale/Oldham area), I'm 30 in October (so a fellow '80s kid), and the Mrs and I are expecting! Our due date is 1st October. We don't know what we're having yet - should be a nice surprise.

Did you go by another name on the old Dojo?

I live in the Tameside area, our due date is 3rd October! My username has never really changed, on the old forums I was known as Birty2k. Has your user always been the same?

And thanks for the replies guys it’s good to know there’s people out there of a similar age who I can relate to at a time like this haha!

What are the chances? We bought our first house in Stalybridge before moving up to Rochdale. My family is from Saddleworth.

I joined the Dojo forum in the very early 2000s as iyapol - I think it was before the old Dojo forum, so that's how long ago it was. I used to keep an eye on Shenmue news but didn't join the old forum until 2015. I was iyapol on the old Dojo.

Nice to know there is another Shenmue fan within a 10 mile radius!

Well when people start calling him Tom for short you'll realise you subconsciously did name him after a Shenmue character.
