Hi there everybody! Taking advantage of the new Dojo Forum... I just wanted to kindly ask for a new sub forum dedicated for those non-english speakers.
This is a very important time in the history of Shenmue and the community is growing fast worldwide. So I thought, if there is even an area dedicated for "Non-Shenmue related games discussion" ( which in my sincere opinion don't make much sense... ) why an Internacional forum for everybody express their love for Shenmue in its own language could be something not to consider?

One subforum is enough! Then it's just a matter of letting the interest of each user of creating the topic and start the conversation! Once there is enough members there... pin the top and that's it!

The main issue here would be assigning mods that can understand a range of different languages to keep things clean, legal and on the level.
I'll pass this suggestion to the staff anyway and see what they say.

That's easy... make a thread asking everybody in which language they would like to see a possible International sub-forum. The most 2 or 3 languages voted is selected and a moderator is chosen for each session! It doesn't need to be something HUGE... BIG... let's start with only one language to see how it goes.

You are welcome to use this thread to drum up any support you can to voice the desire for an international section of the forums. It would be a great addition to the boards, and one I would have no problems supporting.

But the demand has to be there. If the support isn't there, then it's just going to result in a "dead" section of the boards which I am trying to avoid.

Until there is a high level of demand, I can't justify it based on one request alone.

Wow! This was unexpected! Thank you very much for the chance of doing this research! I'll change the thread title and spread the news over other topics, asking everybody to come here and vote, and lets see what can be done!

Thx a million Peter! Ow... by the way... congratulation for the new Dojo! It is in its best shape ever!

I think we would need to see if there is enough demand first, so perhaps you could try starting with threads in certain languages before we get a an international subforum.

As long as this place doesn't turn into an Orkut, I'm down with having Portuguese here as a side language, assuming that's your end goal Fuzileiro. ;)

I was a member of the extinct black-cats.com site. Most of you may reccon this name. There was an internacional reserved area, dedicated at 3 different languages at least if I remember well. And it was really great having this reserved space out there.

I see the Dojo as the best place where Shenmue fans can be at. And I see a future where this place will really have a substantial increase in accesses.

So it isn't just a matter of having "portuguese" here... but to have a place where all non english speakers can be togheter... sharing all information avaliable about Shenmue.

I was just playing with you. As I said before, I give you my support as it might be a great chance to increase the fan base here in general with the inclusion of non English speakers. Though I'm a bit apprehensive with the idea of some members sockpuppeting as seen in the old forum, but now in a language the moderators won't understand.

Peter, I've created the poll and shared the link over other threads, but I think this isn't enough. In this new version of the Dojo... can the main page display polls? Would be more visible for everybody. ;)

If we could attract more Japanese members that would be a fun one to add. We do have at least a few members who are proficient enough in the language to police any trolling, etc.

Realistically though French or one of the other European languages that have more active Shenmue communities would be welcome additions. Not that I could participate in those lol

I voted for Japanese cuz I'm greedy and want to speak more Japanese here, but I'm pulling for you Europeans (y)

Hey everyone, just a quick note to say that anyone making alternate accounts to influence the poll will not have any of their votes counted. Thanks!

Please check every IP from all those who are voting. Any fake account will not count, that's for sure!

I should also stress that other languages are allowed to be used within this topic.

It's all well and good having numbers in a poll, but people casting those votes need to be posting. It's activity from non English speaking members that will ultimately decide the creation of an international forum.

If the activity is there, it justifies it. Not numbers in a poll. No activity = no need for a forum.

English is the de facto international language so I dont see the need in having forums with other languages, other than to be welcoming of people who speak english as a second language.

This is a problem in my point of view... once those I'm inviting to joing this beloved forum are coming without any other "attractive" than have an oportunity to joing one of the biggest shenmue fan sites worldwide, speaking in portuguese... most of them I belive don't speak a single word in english.

If a portuguese forum already existed, there could be much more activity then now... proving there aren't just numbers... but... demand this right now is almost a game over.

Like I said, they are free to speak their language in this topic. I don't see an issue with that. You can link these people here. They must understand English enough to have created an account. If they don't speak a word of English, then they must have used translation tools to do so, which they can also use to find this topic. Hell, there's no reason you cant send them the link. But they are aware of the topic with the amount of votes cast it seems.

But we will not be setting up a forum based on nothing. I am not setting up a forum in the hope that it generates activity. Activity comes first. If there is no activity then there is no serious demand, and no need to create a forum.
