Random Shenmue III Thoughts

With the team this quiet, this late into development I think that should indicate that the game is entering it's final stages of production. It's crazy to think we have not seen not one video of actual gameplay footage.

Part of me says that no news is good news, and the other is just anxious to see something. With that said, I don't expect to see anything until E3 2019.

I'll guess we some gameplay footage at Magic in February. No reasoning behind it, just a hunch.

Had a thought today; maybe Sony does a PS4 bundle with Shenmue 3 as part of their promo deal. Doubtful, but would be cool. Not saying an exclusive console variant, just included with new systems.

That would be astounding for sales.

That would be a wonderful way to get the game into homes. I imagine they would have to broker some sort of deal for that.

I think we will see advertsing ramping up after Xmas and into Monaco. I'm just desperate for a kickstarter update now!

I know it's unrealistic but I really would like to see a Piggyback's guide for Shenmue 3. Their books are state of art.

Perhaps I am misremembering but, didn't Yu Suzuki say there was going to be an Archery mini game?

I just got that feeling of "fuck, it's so good that SIII is being developed by YSnet", knowing that YS will do whatever he wants, having a producer that gives him full (or a lot) of creative control, not having to report everysingle random milestone they need to meet, no bullshit QA of "what consumers like".
It would be nice if SIII would have AAA budget, but man, I think that just having a smaller team and a thighter grasp of everything will end up making a more meaninful game.

Maybe having a small budget could mean Suzuki will set a good example of not wasting resources and a good lesson about being creative and good game maker. Maybe he will set a milestone about this.

Hopefully so. I find it interesting as to how he would have had to adjust from massive budget the first two games had to this rather modest budget for 3.

If I'm not mistaken, YS said that he can create the full game he wants with about 10 million. With all of the crowdfunding totals, Deep Silver agreement, and Sony pitching in, I'd say he has at least that.

"Through the partnership we have formed with Deep Silver, I believe we will now be able to deliver a game that pursues an open world nature. Thank you for your continued support. " -Yu Suzuki

Sounds like to me we're getting the exact Shenmue III as YS intended.

He said it surpasses his original projections by four times, so it will be great. Plus who knows what gets added in DLC.

So... I rewatched the extended gamescom trailer and the animations actually seem pretty great? I mean, besides the facial animations looking a bit funky but I'm talking about movement, it looks really natural. The biggest thing wrong is that it seems that the actual fighting moves don't have any weight behind them at all ie, recoil, etc. But I'm pretty confident that that will have been worked out by time of release.

Probably not worth reading into that much, but Corey Marshall just tweeted this:

Can't help but wonder if this is an acknowledgement that voice acting is underway, or just an off the cuff Shenmue tweet.

I'm confident it is the former. He could have said something about sailors or blackmail being "wayyy uncool" and it wouldn't really mean anything, whereas "Let's get sweaty" has implications behind it.
