Random Shenmue Thoughts

In Dobuita, when you are looking for Charlie, one of the story threads can take you to Nagai Industries, a Yakuza front. It’s next to the Water Dragon Vol 2.
I recall going over there again and again on my first playthroughs convinced there had to be some event at the place. There had to be something planned and scrapped at some point, the place oozes brawl and "eventually".
Iirc there you get Ryo's diary optional entries.

Yeah that guy is full of shit. Some twat trying to get some cheap exposure

... how does someone on the Dojo not know Nagai?!

lol, thanks for the clip.

i watched a walkthough to remind myself because it's pretty quickly glossed over that the yakuza are a presence in shenmue. the clip shows one player asked a few questions in that office then walked out. probably why i forgot. - i'm a fan but i don't religiously play shenmue that much anymore. i over did it and completed shenmue 1/2(dc) too many times in 2000-2007, then only replayed s1/2HD(ps4) again in 2019 for s3. ( the more times i played shenmue, the more sad it made me feel that the story had no ending).

i'm not 100% on japanese history/culture but in recent years when i hear the word yakuza, i think of one of the worst organised crime gangs around.. which could of been worse than the mad angels as a main enemy in shenmue 1.

The Yakuza are actually not nearly as bad as they're portrayed in media.

I mean, they're an organised crime group, so they aren't good people lol, but they legitimately do A LOT of good things for their communities; they mobilised and assisted citizens quicker than anyone else after the Atomic Bombs of WWII and also assisted in relief for the (somewhat) recent Fukushima Earthquake.

Hi all, i've gone through my CVG magazines and a couple of GamesMaster and DC:UK's for any Shenmue mentions. I've got some Edge magazines still to go through, but hope this is stuff not on the site. I've not done the main reveal in CVG as that's on here already.

I wonder where this thing ever went or if it's a bootleg of some sort. It was on taobao 2 years ago.

Hmm, willing to bet that it's a fake. There was an interesting Shenmue III PS4 that I believe was showcased somewhere, however....I'd have to find pictures of it, but I want to say it was by Square Enix? They helped distribute the game, at least on their online store, for whatever reason.

Right, so i've spent a couple of hours going through all my Official Dreamcast Magazines for as many mentions of Shenmue as possible (that's not in the media section already). I hope you enjoy! I'll split them into sections. It's not as exciting as posting a beta version of Shenmue II, but I hope that this is nice to read and gives some context :)

Readers most wanted. As you can see, Shenmue I was #1 every month and so was mostly Shenmue II. This really was an exciting time and the hype was intense.

Cracking Work. I'll get these uploaded ASAP. Been running a little behind!

Sounds grand! Actually, re-reading these and some mid 90's CVG's, it's clear that Ed Lomas was quite the supporter of Sega and Shenmue. I wonder if he might be a good shout to have an interview with the Dojo with? His enthusiasm was wonderful to read.

Please, save me a search, my oracle-people:
Shenmue for Saturn video footage surfaced practically yesterday but which date do you think it was at that build time? I'm sitting between 1996-1998 but I want to close the circle.

Edit: still not luck in finding the aproximate build date but my first thought period had to be too late for having a DC port ready for release in '98-'99.
It seems that Shenmue Saturn was around the same time of Virtua Fighter 2 and Kids, so now is around 1994-1996 which is crazy because there was nothing out there like looking that prototype at that time. Quake and Tomb Raider got released in 1996 to put on some context.

what do you guys think of the yu suzuki's NFT project :(????

I know people are gonna be pissed about it, but if he and Ys Net got paid then I can't say I mind. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I'm no longer worried about NFTs taking off any time soon at this point, it seems pretty dead in the water for at least the foreseeable future (5+ years).

i don't understand what he's doing. i guess it more of an art thing?

not the same but the only thing which comes to mind is since the crypto company FTX collapsing, a lot of reports have come out how FTX went after celebrities to get there reputation up. the problem is, since the company's collapse, normal people are trying to sue some of the celebrities who advertised FTX like larry david.
