Based on the gameplay footage floating around, this is a definite departure from the Souls series. Though the combat still have that same "attacks with weight" feel people are used to in the Souls' games, there are no more stamina bars or stats management. It's a pure straight up action game that revels on its difficulty and shares elements with the Tenchu series, with its verticality and stealth.
The focus seems to be on the new "posture" bar mechanic and the protagonist's trick arm abilities. And to those wondering what the "Shadows Die Twice" part means, it's from the new death mechanic in this game in which the player, after death, can choose to resurrect himself right on the spot or spawn from a checkpoint.

Due to be released on March 2019.

Looks even better in actual gameplay.
People keep trying to hammer down the point that it's a departure from the Souls series though, but come on... that still looks hella Souls-y.
That's not a bad thing, and yeah, I get that the underlying systems are basically different (no stat management, no levelling, yadda yadda), but let's be honest: From still aren't straying very far from what they've already been doing for years.
Whatever the case, it still looks damn cool.

Well, it's not like developers just can abandon all their foundation. Death Stranding as example is looking like to have that same MGS 3rd person stealth mechanic. But as you say, it's not a bad thing. I'm actually more excited for this than if From announced a Souls 4 or Bloodborne 2.
