Yeah. Shenmue historically wasn't a very strong seller on home turf.

Not to say it's unpopular, because it gets a lot of love from Japanese developers & games media. Shenmue III has steadily been climbing the "most wanted" list in Famitsu, I think.

Shenmue 2 at least also made it quite high on Famitsu's "best adventure" games list a couple of years back alongside a couple of Yakuza games, which was cool to see.
 
Did Yakuza rank? I’m having trouble filtering the results. I want to keep the spirit of competition alive.

There's wasn't a Yakuza release last year in Japan.

Well, there was Judge Eyes, and I think that came in at 19 with 250,000 something copies sold while it was in the charts. Not too surprising, RGG Studio games do well domestically because they're highly tailored to that market (tie-ins, Japanese celebrities, etc).

Remasters of Yakuza sells but a tiny fraction to what new Yakuza games sell. And yeah, 3 was certainly no exception, it sold a pretty small amount (around 20K first week I think) which is about 10% of what Judge Eyes managed I think.
 
Yeah, it wasn’t exactly a “Kiwami,” and they made the remasters with an international audience in mind. Other than that, I can’t wait to see how Shenmue III does in Japan
