In order to be useful, I have created a draft to petition the likes of SEGA to show the interest in a new Shenmue title. If there are any suggestions for improvement please let me know.

Title: A Call for the Development of Shenmue IV: Continuing the Legacy

To: SEGA/Sammy, Sony, Nintendo, Valve Corporation, Microsoft, Epic Games, Deep Silver, etc.

We, the fans of the Shenmue saga, are writing to express our deepest desire for the continuation of one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time. The Shenmue series has not only provided us with an immersive and engaging gaming experience but also has touched our lives with its rich storytelling and unique gameplay.

Shenmue III left us yearning for more, and we know that the story is not complete. The journey of Ryo Hazuki is one that deserves a proper conclusion, and we are convinced that Shenmue IV is not just a want, but a necessity for the gaming community.

Unfortunately, Shenmue has always had difficulty financially proving its mettle. In the latest interview with Yu Suzuki, he has willing expressed his desire to continue the series but needs a partner. To prove that Shenmue is still a financially viable, this petition was created.

Why Shenmue IV?

• Continuation of the Story
: Fans have been following Ryo’s journey for decades wanting to see his quest through to the end.

• Innovative Gameplay: Shenmue and Yu Suzuki has always been at the forefront of innovation in gaming. Such things we take for granted today such as intricate open-world exploration based on real-world locations, day-and-night cycles, cinematic storytelling, emulated mini games, branching quick time events, non-player-characters with their own scripting, Virtua Fighter combat, et cetera was either popularized and/or innovated by Yu Suzuki and AM2.

• Cultural Impact: Shenmue has had a significant impact on gaming culture and has inspired countless other games. Titles such as the Like A Dragon series, Grand Theft Auto III, Death Stranding, and Red Dead Redemption II all have Shenmue's DNA in their game design.

• Fan Dedication: The fanbase has shown unwavering support, including a record-breaking crowdfunding Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue III which totalled over six million dollars. Which then led to a high-definition re-release of Shenmue (1999) and Shenmue II and an anime commissioned by SEGA/SAMMY.

Our Request:

We respectfully request that you consider the development of Shenmue IV. We are confident that with your commitment, the Shenmue story can be given the ending it deserves, and a new chapter in gaming history can be written.

We pledge our full support and assure you that we will stand behind the game, promoting it within our communities and ensuring its success.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope you will take our request to heart and join us in bringing Shenmue IV to life.

Keep Friends and Those You Love Close to You...

Warm Regards,

Shenmue Fans Everywhere

Signed 😊

I decided to write something for the petition, this is what I wrote.

The Shenmue Series is a game series that revolutionized the gaming industry in 1999.

Shenmue influenced many other game series, even famous game series like GTA and Yakuza were influenced by Shenmue, Shenmue is a game series ahead of its time.

Since Shenmue II released in 2001, the legendary game creator Yu Suzuki struggled to continue Shenmue in game format.

Yu Suzuki was able to release Shenmue III only in 2019 with the help of a Kickstarter campaign that was a success, and with the help of some partners.

After 4 years of the release of Shenmue III it looks like Yu Suzuki is struggling to make the game Shenmue IV, in a recent interview he said the game is on planning stage and that he needs a partner.

According to Yu Suzuki himself, he will need a Shenmue IV and Shenmue V to complete the story, he needs 2 more games to complete Ryo’s journey.

Yu Suzuki even said that continue and finishing Shenmue is a personal journey for him, and that he will never give up. This is truly inspiring and touching.

The Shenmue community is so passionate and loyal, and we don't want to see our beloved Shenmue series fall into oblivion and remain without a conclusion in game format.

Yu Suzuki is a legendary Game Creator that changed the gaming industry in so many ways, he deserves the opportunity to make the games Shenmue IV & V, and this way complete Shenmue in the best way possible for him and the Shenmue Community, thank you. 💜

Gonna sign this! My bigger hope is that if something DOES happen with Shenmue IV and companies see there's interest in the story, that it actually has more of an official backing of a studio and publisher. Shenmue 3 getting mostly funded by fans alone, then getting barely any marketing, then launching exclusively on Epic Games and PS4 just to get some extra coin kind of guaranteed there'd be problems down the line. Shenmue 3 only floundered because there really was a huge lack of support behind it and it makes me sad. Sega's been on a kick of bringing back old IPs and designers, though, so nothing's impossible!

In a perfect world I'd wanna see RGG Studios producing a new Shenmue with Yu Suzuki on as director but I know that's a massive pipe dream lol.
