I feel the exact same way. Shenmue 3 really put a damper on my excitement to reexperience the games. This anime is giving me high hopes that it will fix nearly every issue I had with Shenmue 3's story and characters if we get a season 2. God I hope they confirm season 2 the moment after episode 13 airs.I must say I did not play any of the Shenmue games since the disappointment I felt after Shenmue 3, but this anime adaptation brought back some of my dormant enthusiasm towards the series. Both episodes so far followed the games closely, but the story-telling was even better. I cannot wait to see how far the story goes and what we get after 13 episodes. Also, I think the anime is a good medium to tell the story of Shenmue and there is a chance to see more from Shenmue 3 (at least something about Shenhua's father or something).
Turn off hardware acceleration in your browser and it should then work - I had the same issue :)Too bad I can't seem to screenshot Crunchyroll...
Yes, it had probably gone unnoticed until now as the writing isn't clear (although it can be spotted if you know to look for it!).Akame is visible in the first game? I don't think I ever knew that! Anything special about the move scroll?
I don't think there's any evidence to suggest this will happen. If anything the show has been very faithful to the main plot points, and nothing that's been shown of Bailu so far invalidates anything from S3.Predicting that we'll be getting a lot more Shenmue 3 nods in the future and if this is the case... it could be evidence that Ryo's time in Bailu will be completely re-written (for the better).
To add to this I agree. If someone told me a few years back that Shenmue would get a TV show featuring Yamagishi-san as a prominent character, I would've laughed in their face, then cried because it'll obviously never happen...yet here we are, living in the best alternate timeline

As per S1, I'm sure they'll flesh out S3's characters, rewrite bits and pieces, shuffle events, etc., that's all Bailu needs. Tweaks and fleshed out characters will make a world of difference. I highly doubt they'll completely rewrite Ryo's time in Bailu -- but we'll be waiting for a second season to find that out.
I was going to say the same thing! The only character I missed so far was

I really hope she gets some screen time in one of the episodes.
I've been looking forward to seeing Megumi and the kitten, I really hope they weren't cut from the anime.
Honestly, it would be terrible. You're absolutely right. Can you all imagine for a moment if the anime was with the same slow pace of the first game? i think a lot of people would talk even more bad about Shenmue, the score would be lower and our chances of getting a second season and Shenmue IV would be even less.

Sorry for the double post but I just read this one!I've never ever thought about this before but didn't the 'a man from the east' will arrive in the village part of the prophecy already technically come true before Ryo set foot in the village? I mean, Iwao was there earlier and the prophecy has been told (as far as I know) before even Shenhua was born.
I have a little theory, here. Maybe it's a tad convoluted. In the prophecy poem, I think most of us would agree that Lan Di is the 'dragon' and Ryo is the 'morning star' but I have always wondered who the phoenix could represent. I've thought Iwao in the past but I couldn't back it up with reasons why. Now I'm starting to think that the prophecy tells a tale of two young men from the east, Ryo and Iwao. The part of the prophecy that always made me feel gloomy was the part that states that the young man will fulfil his wishes but at the expense of his own destruction. The prophecy seems to imply that Ryo will get his revenge but at a huge price. What if we flipped this and thought of Iwao as the young man from the east in the poem? He fulfilled his wishes (preventing the mirrors from falling into the wrong hands) at the expense of his destruction (death). In the poem, he represents the phoenix, a symbol of rebirth. While he is not physically reborn, perhaps his will stays alive in Ryo, who retraces his father's footsteps in China and brings a conclusion to the situation with the mirrors. Idk, just a wild thought.
I just want Ryo to have a happy ending.
