What is your prediction for S3 ending?

Hi everyone! In a matter of days we will finally be able to know the next steps of our favorite samurai boy. So I thought that now, based in everything that we were able to know thanks magazines, interviews, demo, datamining etc, we could try to "predict" not only Shenmue 3 ending and of of course, compare with the real one in November but predict the scope (places, people) of Shenmue IV.

In my humble opinion, mainly based on this:
chapters.jpg

Ryo will have some kind of Romance of Three Kingdom challenge with references to Shu, Wu and Wei in form of Bosses. One of them, Niao Sun in person. After beaten them (or sort of) Ryo will face Lan Di and win! But he will learn that Lan Di was manipulated by someone more powerful and the lost of his father drove him in a bad way of life. Ryo will learn that he need to go to the high mountains of China to be trained by the bald monk and have the necessary skills to face Tentei!

Ryo will most definitely not win his first fight against Lan Di. He effortlessly killed his father who's already a master and that wasn't even more than a year ago. He needs a lot more training.

As for what may happen in the end, Ryo will get beaten to near-death but Lan Di will spare him because of his potential, offering him a proper rematch if he could eliminate the other Chi You Men leaders so that he'll gain full control of the organization. Ryo reluctantly agrees and heads to where the closest next leader is, setting up Shenmue 4.

My guess, broadly, is that the ending will surround Ryo's orientation away from revenge and a turn towards fighting the other leaders. Maybe we'll see him journeying elsewhere. I don't think it'll be a cliffhanger at all, but an ending closer to that of S1. For what it's worth, I also think about Brianna Knickerbocker's accidental but not major spoiler that the game ends with Shenhua reciting her poem.

As for the roles of some specific characters in relation to that:
a. Lan Di: Perhaps he may try to convert Ryo to the Chi You or, for some reason, get him to give up on his revenge focus? I don't think Ryo will beat him, but I do think their understanding of one another will have changed radically by the end of S3.

b. Ren: I have a strong suspicion he will die before the end of the game. He's not all that strong in the Yellow Head Bldg., and it's hard to think he could withstand the heavy hitters we're going to meet. His impure reasons for joining ($$$) may be his fall, or perhaps he'll sacrifice himself and find some sort of redemption.

c. Ziming: I'm sure we'll see him. I used to think he, too, may die (perhaps in some sense of redemption, never having truly betrayed Xiuying in the end), but is he the face in the sky in the ch. 10 card?

There is no way to guess what the ending will be at this point. All that I know is that Ryo's purpose at this point will be beyond revenge.

Lan Di will get away at the end. This time by hot air balloon.

I can see this. Although Lan Di will still not be inside the balloon basket, but once again hanging on to a ladder dangling from it, while his henchman pulls the little cord that shoots hot air into the balloon. As a result the ending cinematic of Lan Di's escape will be quite a bit longer and slower-paced, and Lan Di will need to occasionally change which hand he's using to hold onto to the ladder rung.

My gut is telling me by the end of 3 it will have dealt with Lan Di, which I personally don't really want but do think it could bode well for the game for others. I just have a general hatred for main antagonists getting replaced cause I enjoy having a consistent villain all the way through, on the other hand it would be a super climactic thing to have in the game even though its not actually the end, and for alot of people I could see that as a huge plus that after 20 years of waiting they got a guaranteed final showdown with Lan Di.

I've seen some people throw around the idea of Ren dying, which I kind of believe will happen its just a matter of when. Like it could be this game, it could be the 5th.

Ryo will infiltrate the Chi You Men's Fortified Castle in Niaowu and fight all four leaders.

I remember both on the old forum and from Facebook posts of @LanDC that the remaining locations featured in the GDC Chapter Concept Art were worked out to be:

Chapter 7: Luoyang, Chapter 8: Cangzhou, Chapter 9: Xian, Chapter 10: Beijing, Chapter 11: Xinjiang.

So I predict the final scene in Shenmue 3 will be of Ryo and Shenhua travelling to one of these five locations depending on which order Suzuki decides to adapt them.

Very interesting! One of these locations have the iron lion of Akira VF2 Stage!
Do you think Chi You is a "being"?

We more or less know the ending of 3. Ryo will partake in a romance of the three kingdoms infiltration scenario, he's not there for Lan Di, nor does he initially realize Lan Di, and the Dragon Mirror are there. However while helping out Shenhua with getting her father back, who's being held captive, somehow Ryo finds out Lan Di is there(almost definitely from forcing someone he beats up, to spill the beans).

Ryo leaves Shenhua with Ren, and goes running off after Lan Di. This results in Ren eventually being killed(IE the final lesson Ryo must learn, to finally move completely passed his lust for revenge).

Ryo confronts Lan Di, and for the most part(for the short time the fight lasts before getting interrupted), It's a stailmate. A goon brings Shenhua to the room with Lan Di, and Ryo chooses to save Shenhua, allowing Lan Di to escape(around this time, also finding out Ren is dead, with Ryo realizing it was all his own fault).

I'm not sure if they'll succeed in rescuing Shenhua's father, It's overwhelmingly likely that Lan Di will still have him, telling Ryo to go to X, and bring the Phoenix Mirror with him, if they ever want to see Shenhua's father alive again(it should also be noted that it has been hinted on in the past, that Lan Di needs Shenhua for some reason as well, so It's really killing 2 birds with 1 stone).

I genuinely believe the game is ending with a literal phoenix and dragon ascending into the night sky. Theres a reason the night sky and the moon look so majestic and its to highlight this scene.

Lol that would be hilarious. Lan Di, and Ryo face each other, then Lan Di in his dreary/deep voice says "what a waste of time, I'm going home"

Well, my way to see the ending of Shenmue 3 would be a confrontation with Lan Di, that after an hars fight we would still lost against him, and win in the same time, because for an unknown reason, the big leader of the chi you men would make his first appearance in Shenmue after we heard about him in 3, because Lan Di accomplished his task and his not needed anymore to him, maybe he would kill Lan Di for some reason. Because maybe he could become an obstacle to his plans in the end or something like that. Why do I think that ? Because I don't see how they could introduce a new bad guy who would be more menacing than Lan Di who killed Ryo's father, thus it would be in my opinion a good way to introduce him, which would show already how powerful he is and how big a menace he is to Ryo if he managed to kill so easily Lan Di in front of Ryo, which would lead Ryo again to the path of training not only to overcome Lan Di, but also Tentei ( I believe it's his name ), That, with an amazing background to this bad guy would make him maybe even a better bad guy that already is. Then we would have an end going maybe toward something supernatural, but I really don't know what actually.

I think you people are getting too way ahead.
Shenmue 3 is only 2 chapters and 2 locations only.
3rd may be a DLC casino fortress thing.
Ren is not going to die and is way too early for Ryo to fight and defeat Lan Di.
Ryo defeating Lan Di in Shenmue 3 is ridiculous considering some random man who is not even a Chi Yo Men beats him up and probably Chai as well. Lan Di is in another level beyond Xiuying and Ryo could not even touch her. Perhaps by Shenmue 4 Ryo reaches Xiu Ying level. The last fight "may be" with Niao Sun or we don't even get to fight her and she is just introduced.
I think fighting all Chi Yo Men in a single building is really Terrible storytelling and would ruin the game...

Xiu Ying may fight Lan Di is meant to happen but not sure if that happens in Shenmue 3 or 4.

Lan Di is just a part of Shenmue's story and shouldn't be considered as the main boss (just my opinion). Ryo still has to face Koutei, Gentei, Entei (Niao Sun) and Tentei. If Shenmue III ends at chapter 6, we have 5 chapters left that Yu Suzuki can cut in 2 more games.

From a recent interview (Famitsu), it seems like Lan Di & Ryo will fight. Is Ryo going to win ? Not sure, but a fight will most likely happen.

Famitsu

Regarding Shenmue III's ending, not sure what will happen. I am confident that Ren is going to die at some point and Ryo will eventually defeat Lan Di without killing him. Ryo still has to learn many things from Grand masters before heading to the Chiyoumen's HQ to fight the remaining bosses.

It would be cool if Ryo learns about the real purpose of his existence and destiny to take down Tentei and forgets all about Lan Di.

Then, when Ryo enters Tentei's lair for the ultimate fight, we see a dead Lan Di on the ground (who died off screen) and Ryo just walks right past him without even noticing because he doesn't even CARE about Lan Di at this point one way or the other.
