Wich games have been remotely able to surprise you as Shenmue did?

Shenmue, Everybody´s Golf, Bloodborne, RE7, GT Sports, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
Not necessarly really talking about graphics here, can be any reason: storytelling, mechanichs, graphics, entretainment, physics, sound, etc. In fact, Im pretty sure that for the most of us, Shennue covered all of this.

Has to have caused a "wow" impact that you will always remember.

For me, the ones that come to my mind now:

- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros 3
- Daytona USA
- Virtua Striker 2
- Metal Gear Solid
- Half Life
- Half Life 2
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Portal
- Red Dead Redemption
- 99% chances Red Dead Redemption 2.

Shenmue is the only game that I’d give up a large amount of money to resurrect—that’s for sure. But those other games I posted all blew me away.
 
Maybe Super Mario 64... only due to the transition to 3D...

But as far as sheer aspirations, Shenmue is Shenmue...

I bought it when it came out. :)
 
Lost Odyssey and not really because of the gameplay... it's the combination of the game and the book. Sort of similar to Shenmue in a way. Part of what makes Shenmue interesting and unique is not in the gameplay per se.

I think we will have to add Red Dead Redemption 2, after the Gameplay Trailer they have just showed :eek:
 
From the top of my head, the games as well as the "wow" moments that truly tipped the scales for me:

Metal Gear Solid - Sniper Wolf and Grey Fox's deaths

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - The ending revelation

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Captain MacMillan rising in his ghillie suit

Braid - The ending. All of it

BioShock - "The name's Frank Fontaine"

Dust: An Elysian Tail - The truth about Dust
 
None are as great as Shenmue for me. The only other games that come somewhat close are the original 4 Resident Evils (RE 1, 2 ,3 and Code Veronica).
