General RGG Discussion

Was the Virtua Cop segment in 0 or Kiwami 1? Or both? I can't remember anymore. Also do any future installments have a segment like this? I actually really liked it. The wait for 3 to come to PC is going to be painful. I just beat the main story of Kiwami 2 last night, but at least I still have some side activities left.
Both. I really enjoyed both of the segments but some people (reading elsewhere) absolutely hated them. Aside from doing them on Legend (which I hear is unforgiving in Kiwami as you gotta do the whole Lau stage and fight again!) I can't see why all the hate, its a neat little nod to AM2's awesome lightgun series.

As for other games in the series... not in the main gameplay no. However, both Judgment and Yakuza 6 have mini games that pay homage to classic lightgun games - 6 has the spear fishing mini game, which is basically a 3 stage lightgun game against sea creatures (with hilarious bosses) while Judgment has perhaps my favourite mini game ever in "Kamuro of the Dead" - no prizes for guessing which lightgun game that parodies! Its a full 6? stage lightgun mini game (short stages) that have you battling against the Yakuza Dead Souls enemies and bosses in a HOTD style lightgun game, and its bloody brilliant.

Yes, Kamuro of the Dead is really fun in Judge Eyes/Judgement. I know that some of the classic titles are coming back for 7.

I’m still hoping for a Hokuto Ga Gotoku 2 or a Souten Ga Gotoku.

A fist of the North Star sequel would be lovely, its my least favorite in the franchise by a fair margin not counting dead souls, but the groundwork is there for a bitching sequel, one that hopefully can integrate past characters actually into the original plot rather than just have em show up and stall the plot for a rushed unsatisfying recreation of the manga's arcs. Like the pacing of that game was a mess and anything wasteland related was awful but when you got to the segments of just pure combat or the boss fights shit was amazing at times and loads of fun. Round the game out, have more to the story since it was shockingly short, and I think a solid game is out there for it.

But I doubt we will see one, I don't think the game was particularly successful, I doubt it lost money especially with how low budget it felt, but I doubt the sales really motivate them to divert any resources off of it that wouldnt just be going to judgement 2 or a new anime property game. I recall some at RGG said they wanted to do a city hunter game which would be awesome, it'll never happen cause its with namco but I'd adore a gintama game by these devs, the odd jobs scenario and sense of humor lends itself amazingly to substories and the freaking series takes place in the same location as yakuza anyway. It also remains to be seen how much staying power that manga even has now that its over, something fist of the north star and to a lesser extent city hunter do have.

As I said before, I’m on board for City Hunter as long as Akira Kamiya still plays Ryo and they get the rest of the cast back. I’m also on board for cameos from Cat’s Eyes as well.

Well I think its a given they wouldn't be getting the cast back, it'd be a yakuza spin-off with voice actors of the series playing specific characters.

Its on a character by character basis for the cheering. Kiryu is always hilarious, make sure you play Rouge of Love whenever it shows up, and also take Haruka out and do Karaoke with her in 5 as his chanting and singing in those songs had me on the floor, so damn hilarious.
Likewise, Saejima + Rouge of Love is possibly the best combo imaginable!

But yeah, Karaoke as a whole is just the best thing ever in terms of side content in the series, aside from the arcade for me. Its just so fun, I can't think of any series (Shenmue excluded) that has mini games that comes close to what Yakuza manages.

Shadowman's got it: Saejima doing Rouge of Love is just... karaoke perfection.

I don't even think they programmed him to be able to sing it, only to cheer (correct me if I'm wrong).

Best version of Receive You for me, is the original, by Makotch.

Love the gritty Guitar and stupid, nonsensical lyrics, not to mention the ominous-ish chanting; awesomeness.

And throwing pigeon food?

HELL. YES.

I'm finally back in Kamurocho in Yakuza 3...I've been doing all the side content (I kinda like the fact that everything is just marked on the map now...it does make it somewhat easier than before where you just had to hope you stumbled upon a side quest.)

I bumped the game back down to Normal. Hard mode was annoying me with the AI's constant cheap ass blocking (not that they're much better on Normal, but at least it's slightly more tolerable...I can't imagine this game on Legend with the cheap ass blocking)...will grab the Tiger Drop as soon as it becomes available.

I also did the third part of the Mizuki and Akimoto saga...this shit's just straight up K-Drama now...nice to see that back in the Remastered Version. :D How dense can one man be? :D

I guess I never noticed it before as it's been a while since I last played Y3, but this game has some real ugly PS2 looking character models at times. Not that it really means much nor does it bother me at all but yeah, comparing them to Y5 or Y0 is noticeable. Ah well, early PS3 days where no one knew what the hardware could fully do and clearly reusing some PS2 assets. But anyone who tells me S3 has ugly NPC's needs to come and play Y3 because some of these NPC's are pretty ugly at times. (looking at you, Mizuki)

Although, I do love the density of crowds in Kamurocho, it does feel more authentic to the real life experience of walking through Kabukicho with the sizable crowds. One of the things I did always love about Y3.

Yakuza 3 was very much a learning curve in many ways. Kiryu's entire look and animation for his character model is sorta hilarious, he's lightyears better in 5, likewise the NPCs certainly are improved en masse (some of 3's look good, but as you say, others look... Mizuki).

I actually really enjoyed 3's hard mode. I liked the cagey enemies and opening them up. It kinda sucks initially when you don't have much to work with moves wise but later on it just gets better and better, while normal felt too easy. And unfortunately after 3 the difficulty of the series nose dived and enemies became brain dead :(

Yeah, I hear you...difficulty hasn't been this series strong point since the first three games. Well with exception of Kiwami, I thought Kiwami was nicely challenging at times. Maybe I should have stayed with Hard, but I was just getting a bit tired of the blocking and not having the tools to open them up.

Yeah, it's an early PS3 game that was still in the transition period from PS2 to PS3...a lot of early PS3 games had those issues. Especially Japanese developers. I think Japanese developers struggled with that era more so than the West did...especially at the beginning. I still like the look of Y3 though. It is kind of nicely exaggerated and removed from the real world (kind of how I'm looking at Shenmue III, as a matter of fact) but yeah, some character models do show their age more than others.

Still, having fun with it none the less. I still really like Y3 quite a bit. I love the Okinawa Orphanage stuff. I know that was divisive for some, but I really love the low key mundane setup to Yakuza 3's story. Some of my favorite moments in the series came from the early chapters of Y3. The orphanage stuff with the kids is charming as all hell.

As stupid as it sounds, I would totally play a game that is entirely based around that orphanage with Kiryu acting as surrogate father just running day to day chores :D That's how much I like the low key early Okinawa stuff.

Still, nice to be back in Kamurocho.

Tiger Dropping Majima and then directly following it up with another attack in 3 was so darn satisfying, well anyone in the arena really thanks to how the bound mechanic works. One of my favourite fights in the game :)

I actually found the counter attack works more often for me. I always have a bit of trouble timing tiger drop. But the counter attack I can pull of more often than not with ease for whatever reason.

I think the counter might have a slightly wider window? Its definitely more consistent for me to pull off as well but I've got Tiger Dropping down so well now I can use it in pretty much any fight when I need to, bar a couple here and there (like Lau in 3)

I'm TERRIBLE at timing Tiger Drop and half the time, I don't even think I'm doing it properly (is it R1 and Triangle?)
