ReShade Shenmue & Shenmue II HD

Marvellous, just goes to show you how the right lighting and ambiance really does bring out the atmosphere of the world in a way not experienced since the first Sega Dreamcast release, before that even, the Sega Saturn made good use of lighting when the project was still there in its infancy.

Hey there! I'm new around here, haha, but not new to Shenmue. I was looking for some Reshade stuffs to see how other people experience their Shenmue. I've been fiddling around with it too. I tend to like the heavy post-processing stuff too, although I'm trying to find a really nice balance. And yeah, trying to make it work for the scene *and* the HUD & Menu's is tough going.

I also like colour. SEGA, to me, is lots of bright, saturated colours, so I've been tweaking mine accordingly. Here's some screen shots!

It's all still a work in progress, but I'm fun getting it juuuuuust right for my tastes!

I'm Robbie - good to meet you all :)

Couldn't agree more, SEGA has that internal characteristic vibrancy and futuristic edge. Sharp, in-depth colours and deep saturation.

Woah!
When I have enough money I will also buy the pc version!
Can't wait for all the cool mods that are comin.

I finished tweaking my profile, now it should looks good in most of conditions.
Somethime bloom effect will pop up on characters face during dialogues and cutscenes, but it's the best I can get. It is caused by adding ambient light, which is a marvelous effect, but it is injected to everything beyond a certain brightness.
As always, DOF and other effects distort the UI. There should be a shader to prevent it to happen, but I can't make it work properly. I think it may be caused by the way UI is rendered in Shenmue.

To install download and install Reshade, than it simply unzip the content of my zip file in: Steam\steamapps\common\SMLaunch\sm1.
When the game load press shift+F2 and load Shenmue.ini profile.

Here some comparison and random screenshots:

dude this looks fucking awesome. easily the best use of Reshade with the game i have seen so far. And if you use this with Kaldaein's custom re-shade implemenation found here

your UI does not get messed up.

Thanks!
I tried to use it, but it messed up my profile, and I have to tweak it from the scratch... I have to do it anyway if I want to use custom textures, so I will work on it.

EDIT: Ok, I found the problem: within Kaldeain's version, the MXAO, which is the ambient occlusion, doesn't work as expected, it looks inverted.

That's weird. it worked fine for me
With my profile?

I just noticed that also the DOF is turned off and there's no way to get it work...

Here a comparison, the first screenshot is what I get with the regular version of reshade and the second one with the custom version:

yep. so here are two screenshots. first has no preset enabled
. second is your preset enabled.
and there is a screenshot of my reshade config with your profile.

there is a screenshot of my sm1 folder and re-shade folder
when i installed the custom re-shade and went into re-shade folder i had to move all the .fx into the shaders folder per the text file. that maybe the issue if you can't even enable DOF. the last screenshot shows what the re-shade folder looks like when you unpack his download.
when i installed your profile i just added the reinhard and watchdog shaders to this folder.

I did it right, but it still works wrong for me!

It is a depth buffer issue, if I active the shader that show the depth, all I get is a black screen, that mean that reshade is unable to read the depth... I really don't know what to do...

that's really weird. the only other thing i did was when i installed the custom re-shade i made sure to remove all files related to normal re-shade before extracting Keladein's .

I did the same... I also tried to uninstall the whole game to clean the folder of any possible leftover file of the various reshade installations, but it did nothing.

Shenmue 2018-08-26 01-37-14ed.pngGotta love ReShade and Shenmue.
Unfortunately I couldn't get the pre-hud mod to work with my shenmue yet. Probably cause I patched the exe with widescreen mods, no idea idea how to workaround this.

Actually, it works with the hacked exe, try again the installation process following celtic_spike instructions.
I also managed to solve my issue with the depth buffer by changing a value in the reshader64.ini file, I don't know why I have to invert the depth buffer to make it work properly, apparently I'm the only one having this problem...

Anyway, when celtic-spike posted an image of my profile, I realized that maybe you should tweak some values by your self depending on your screen resolution.
I am playing at 3840x2160, but some shader can slightly change when the game is set at lower resolution, the film grain, for example, is way too strong and the DOF too can be a little different compared to my screenshots.

I add some other image beacuse I really like the way it looks, I never tought that Reshade would work so well on such an old game!

You're not the only one - I am having the same issue with the depth buffer after installing the Keladein custom. I'll give it a whirl and let you know if it fixes it for me too!

Open reshade64.ini and look for this string:
Code:
RESHADE_DEPTH_INPUT_IS_REVERSED=0
Change the value to 1
