General RGG Discussion

sub stories stay forever until you finish them. they might dissappear because you are in the wrong chapter or time of day,
but they are not failed or gone.
you can do all of the sub stories after you finished the main game. there is like a "free explore" mode in every Yakuza game which unlocks after you beat the main story. so its all designed in a way so that you can play in your own style and pace.

there are a lot of sub stories that will only unlock if you do all of the parts before.
so if theres like a hidden sub stories part 3 mission, you have to do part 1-2 first. theres no way around it.

I remember in the past Yakuza games there were at least some sub stories that were time sensitive and had a window of opportunity for completion. Like after X chapter or X Event X Sub Story is no longer available, but I think that was mainly in Yakuza 1 and 2 on PS2.

okay, maybe this could happen in the originals on PS2 but im pretty sure it cant happen in the PS3 and PS4 games.
sub stories are unlocked from chapter to chapter and there are sub stories that will only unlock if you do specific
sub stories before.

you can finish the main story of the games without doing any sub stories at all and its no problem
because you can play a special free mode after the story where you can do all the sub stories.
if you missed a sub story because the chapter changed you dont have to be afraid, the sub story is just invisible but not failed.

so as far as i know, failing or missing a sub story is pretty much impossible.
if you dont do them, they will all pop again in the free mode
and even if you fail the target / mission in those sub stories it still counts as finished in your progression list.

Side story failure (as in, locking you out of accessing others) was thankfully abolished after Yakuza 2 (or maybe Kenzan, its been a while since I played that). 2 had some real evil ones - secret party being the most annoying as you could mess up a run in mere seconds by not going exactly to where you'd need to go.

Yakuza 3 I believe still has chapter based side stories that may be missable if you don't do them in that exact chapter. But in my latest playthrough I didn't dare risking missing any. So I can't confirm if its the case or not. You can get side stories marked as failed and still unlock the next ones, so that was progress.

I know Yakuza 4 does away with missing side stories completely. So you can finally just do them at your own leisure.

Speaking of Yakuza 3 though. 90 hours later I finished my PS4 run. I managed to actually get the "mini game master" trophy (which requires you to complete every mini game requirement in the completion list). Pool which I was most worried about, ended up going well once it clicked, I now get how to play the game, EX Hard batting took a few tries, but was still not quite as bad as I'd expected.

And with TGS tomorrow, we'll hopefully have a date for Yakuza 4's remaster in Japan, alongside some more RGG Online and Judges Eyes info. Can't wait!

here is a video of the extended demo from TGS.

you can do drone races with full customization.
there is a new mini game which looks like Mario Party - you have to roll the dice and there are different missions
on each area.

Came to this thread after completing Yakuza 0; there is a huge spoiler for later in the series early on that I wish was marked as such :/

That said, I loved Yakuza 0 (currently in Premium Adventure mode) and will get Kiwami as soon as it hits PC.

Not sure how these havent been posted here yet, but apparently Yakuza Online is a thing... No idea if it will leave japan, but these are some interesting trailers

Its a gacha game for mobile/PC. Plus the story content will continually be released even after the game is launched, so no idea if Sega would have a team of localisers continually work on the game as more content is added. Well that and Gacha games as a whole don't tend to leave Japan for most series.

What I do like about this so far, other than the great FMV clip above is the art style shown in the first teaser trailer. Cutscenes look really nice and the actual story already has me intrigued. Those its worth mentioning that the main story will also be used for the upcoming (probably in 2019) Shin RGG which Sega has confirmed will follow the basic plot of Online up to a set point, at which stage it'll break off into its own thing. I'll probably give Online a try, but it'll be Shin where I really pour the 100's of hours into. But for this year looks like my go to game will be Judges Eyes, which I really can't wait to get.

i'm not interested in the online thing. i mean this is just a card game or whatever
and the trailer is just a "best of characters" bait. you can vote for your favorite characters to appear in that game.

so this is its own thing where already dead characters will be alive again and so on.
the Yakuza Online booth at the Tokyo Game Show is super small,
everything indicates that this will be just a typical mobile game. i dont need that.

Judge Eyes, Shin Yakuza, Yakuza Kenzan and Yakuza Ishin, thats what i want.

It's embarrassing to admit, but I can't get this damn song out of my head lately:

The mini-games in Yakuza 0 are killing my life...

Haha that song got stuck in my wife's head last week because I kept making over my hostesses in Yakuza Kiwami 2, and now she's been grudgingly humming the tune. I hope it's not a spoiler that the minigame returns. Did I just screw up?

Btw to everyone whos played kiwami 2, without giving away spoilers, what did y'all think of the story for that cabaret club? I stopped playing the main campaign because I got so engrossed with it and thought it was great.

It's hilarious considering you're a pimp telling your whores that anything can be achieved through the power of friendship.

i like pretty much all of the side activity and sub mission stuff. doesnt matter if its just bowling for friendship
or cabaret club missions or baseball or this tower defense story thing.

BUT i also have to say that most of them are a bit too stretched for my taste.
especially that clan creator and defense stuff is waaayyy too long for me. i would be totally okay
if they cut 40-50% of it because it always gets to a point for me where i get really bored.
do we really need 20, 30, 40, 50 missions in each of those game modes and activities? i dont.

I think the idea behind making them so long is that you have something worthwhile to do during premium adventure. I agree with you about the clan creator though, especially because it really doesn't add anything to your main campaign, whereas at least with the cabaret club you can actually make money. Then again I actually think clan creator, while improved from Y6, is just not a greatly executed minigame to begin with.

from an interview with the game producer Kazuki Hosokawa:

Around how much content is in the game?

Kazuki Hosokawa, producer: “From what has been planned by the development team, there is around as much content in this game as Yakuza 0.”

“If players were to just follow the main story and skip all the side stories, then players may find it a bit hard to keep up with the difficulty. In theory, the main story should take around 30-35 hours to finish, and if you finish the side stories, I imagine it would take around 70-80 hours of playtime. If you were aiming to get all the trophies, you might need 100-200 hours of gameplay. Compared to the Yakuza series, trophies in this game will be easier to get, as we’ve lowered the difficulty of getting them a bit.”

When is this game set?

Hosokawa: “The game is set in modern day. This isn’t a different Kamurocho than Yakuza’s, nor is it a parallel world.

However, as these two games are completely different games, if you were to ask right now whether any major Yakuza characters will appear in the story, I can firmly deny that none of them will. We believe that the type of drama in Yakuza is completely different than that of Project Judge’s. In order to preserve the worldview for Project Judge, we chose not to make any Yakuza characters major players in the story. But if Project Judge becomes a series, then in the future there may be a chance for some crossover.

Since this is a game about a lawyer, will there be any courtroom segments?

Hosokawa: “Yes, there will be courtroom segments. As a defense lawyer, players will need to argue for people’s innocence against the prosecutor. You will need to present evidence to fight back against the prosecutor’s arguments.”

Without hotel management, karaoke, and other elements, is there some way the protagonist can enjoy his free time?

Hosokawa: “There are several female clients who will ask you to help solve their cases and troubles, and you can get closer to them by doing so. It’s a bit like trying to get girlfriend.”

Nah, I'm not touchy about spoilers in general. Anyway, I'm just glad I got into the series finally after putting it off for so long because of those Shenmue comparisons people make. Silly, but I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I think the cabaret club game was advertised in Japan heavily since it has the biggest sexy actresses at the moment.

Considering they don’t exisit outside of Japan, it’s only natireal we find our selves enjoying the hostess game and how they actually use hand signals in real life to indicate they need a fresh glass or an ash tray

I’m positive we’re going to get a sequel. If Kurohyo on PSP got one, so will Judge Eyes and it can further cross over with Yakuza
