General RGG Discussion

I forget if I said it before, but I love that PS3 case in the physical edition. Its such a cool nod to darker times with the series! Reason enough to double dip! Also, checking out more of the new localisation and they've done a seriously good job with this, its definitely night and day compared to the previous version.

This time amazon.de is not shipping Yakuza to Austria and on gameware.at it is listed but cannot be ordered yet. :(. :crying: So I have to wait till I can pre order my copy.

Very happy with this news. Only started playing the Yakuza games like 2 years ago and have fallen in love. Finished 0 and Kiwami 1 back to back, then bought 3-6 on PS3 and PS4. I finished Kiwami 2 last year and decided it would be better to wait until the remaster for 3 before continuing on as I read about the localisation problems/cut content with the PS3 version.

It's awesome to finally get confirmation (and fucking sweet that there will be a physical version to complete the collection!) that it's finally coming. I am currently in the very last chapter of Judgment (which is also incredible) so I think I'll wait for the physical release in February. A little break in between will be nice... Oh and it'll be occupied with Shenmue 3 :D :D :D! Come Feb, I will be extremely excited to jump back in and continue the story!

FINALLY. 8 days away. I need my fix.

Happy for you guys who will get the remasters! This should help make the team a bit more money too :)

The mogura reveal is one of the few plot points in the entire series, I figured out before the reveal (I believe I figured it out in Chapter 10), as I suck at figuring these out in games. (in films however, since I took my film courses in University, 6+ years ago, I can pick out things before the reveal in literally almost any film I watch).

Hamura is indeed a massive ahole, but I started to sympathise with him and he does get his comeuppance... in a way ;)

I'm counting down the days for Shin RGG news. Its seriously my only other most wanted game of this year (or next year) alongside Shenmue III. I really hope between next week and then at TGS we get loads of info, I want Shin to really blow me away, since its the first new mainline game since 6 in 2016 and the beginning of Ichiban's quest.

the one thing where i think we shouldnt expect too much is the game world of Shin Yakuza.
they said in the Gamescom stream that as long as the story is about Yakuza and the Tojo Clan,
the games will always take place in Kamurocho.
it sounded like Shin Yakuza will be like Judgment, with Kamurocho as the main part
and some other regions on top that they need for the story.

I've been saying Shin RGG would be set in Kamurocho for months (actually years!) and yet you always get people seemingly believing they'll focus elsewhere... I do hope we get another nice Hiroshima/Okinawa style location maybe in a sequel, but yeah, it should absolutely be Kamuro for the next game as the focus due to the story, wouldn't make sense otherwise.

It absolutely WILL take place in Kamurocho, I've never had a doubt about that.

However, if it will indeed follow the storyline of RGG Online, I don't think they'll do another location, this time around.

For the next game in the series, I see them going back to an outside place.

Considering Kamurocho (or its real life counterpart Kabukicho) is home to actual Yakuza....yeah it's probably always destined to be set in Kamurocho. But as John from Digital Foundry said in his Judgement analysis: it's kind of like New York. New York is used over and over again in games and no one seems to mind. Same thing with Kamurocho.

Hell, even GTA games haven't really strayed from Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas (Los Santos really was just San Andreas re-done)

So I guess it makes sense for them to keep going back to the well (outside of the obvious reason that it's built and they can easily rehash it)

I do hope Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku at least changes the formula up a little bit. I honestly don't know what they could do at this point, but I do hope there is something new here that we haven't seen before in these games.

As much as I love these games, I must admit that fatigue is setting in just a little bit. Even with Judgement, as much as I am enjoying it, I've had moments of fatigue with it as well just because some of it does feel routine.

I honestly don't know what they can do at this point to freshen it up, but it would be nice to see something we haven't thought of yet.

Yeah, I started to come around a little on him after Chapter 11.

I am now finally in the last chapter barreling towards the end game. I got to be honest, the identity of the Mole kind of surprised me. I didn't expect Kuroiwa just because I kind of forgot about Kuroiwa. But it makes total sense none the less.

Although I did call Sugiura being related to Emi....had a feeling he was probably either related or involved with Emi in some way.

I am SO ready to see every last person involved with AD-9 buried underneath the prison. :) Fuck all of these guys.

I still wouldn't mind seeing RGG team up with YSNET to deliver Shenmue IV, even if it is just using their engine - I know that is an unpopular opinion though.

Despite not being part of the Yakuza series Judgment still feels like a Yakuza game, I wouldn't even call it a spin off it is that similar. So I agree that RGG need to really try something new - Which is sort of why I am not that excited for this Shin saga, especially considering they've introduced it within a Mobile game I will never play... It's set Kamurocho, just like Judgment too I don't know I'd really like to see them take on a completely different genre, Horror, JRPG, just something that isn't Yakuza - I like Yakuza of course but it's certainly a series which has had a very slow evolution within it's gameplay options - I wasn't pleased that they force-fed the Cabaret Club mini-game into Kiwami 2 at all.

If Shenmue IV does happen then they'll probably continue on Unreal Engine considering most of the assets are now built. Be very easy for them to keep building on what they've already built rather than start over with the Dragon Engine.

I get what you mean. As much as I enjoyed Judgement...I really kind of wanted it to be an entirely different game altogether.

I want to see another Binary Domain type moment for RGG studios. Let them keep Yakuza as the fail safe, but let them work on a brand new IP as well....and I don't just mean Judgement type brand new IP where it's still Yakuza at its heart. They're a talented studio and its time for something brand new from them.

As much as I love what they do, I really want to see them do something brand spanking new as well.
