General RGG Discussion

he is a good, noble and moral human being, that is forced time and again, into situations and problems that he does not wish to be a part of, but because of his standing in the world, he must take up the reigns. The point of the series is to show that being a Yakuza is not this glamourous life of crime and grandeur, that behind all this are real, decent people, that made bad decisions and thus are now stuck in a life they don't want.

See, thats my pont. That's not the definition of antihero for me, that's why Kiryu it isnt. Of course we can discuss about Majima, but Kiryu...

And you forget Date San, that is the "good law" walking around, jeez, even Sawara san was in that "path" and she even shot the korean double.

Kazama? You mean that guy that wanted to let an entire korean mafia escape so they dont get kill?

By this I meaning there are certain characters "washed". Yeah SOMETIMES in very puntual occassiones they do something a liiiittle bad but because a bigger good, and they deserved that liiittle bad anyway, and they all have a good heart (even Majima). They are good people that just are in the yakuza because circunstances of life, but if you put them down they will be doing a great service to the community. Now, being Yakuza, they are only doing a good service, not a great, but always trying to be better.

And the enemies (bosses) are just BAD PEOPLE. Happened in 0 with the clan, happened in Kiwami (Nishiki being corrupted) and it's kinda happen with Kiwami 2 (revenge).

You can clearly see the good ones and the bad ones. That's not antihero for me. Of course, the heroes aren't superman.

Finally finished chapter 1 and saw translations of the chapter 2 cutscenes until the fight in the cemetery (took too long and needed sleep lol).

This is shaping up to be awesome; Ichiban is already too awesome of a character and the way things are going is superb. Thought that things would mirror Kiryu quite closely but they actually don't.

Yokoyama has been knocking it out of the park on the Dragon Engine games.

Only Akiyama and Shinada are clear-cut good guys, dragged into bad situations (ESPECIALLY Shinada). Tanimura and Tatsuya are just young guys that fell off the wrong path, but haven't done a lot of bad things (Tatsuya specifically, was just a troubled youth, but he got better).

Akiyama and Shinada are my favorite characters of the whole series; top 3 rounded out by Tanimura.

I'm glad 5 came West, because the Japanese were not at all receptive to him, in comparison to other characters; he gained a lot of traction popularity-wise, once the game came West.

And for good reason; he's an AWESOME character, from a great background and while I doubt it, I hope he gets a mention or something in 7, 'cause they dropped the ball (no pun intended) big time in not including him somewhere in 6, given that the main minigame is a baseball game.

Alright finished Kiwami 2

Kiryu

KIRYU...

KIRYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Wait a sec there's more after the credits... Oohh... Sonababitch, don't do that again.

That's what I mean by throwing 50 twists in 10 minutes at the player.

But I'm glad you enjoyed it lol

Almost done chapter 2 now; Ichiban is at level 10 and Adachi has joined, right before doing the sewer part (I started last night, but needed to get to bed). As Salty Yen has (like he always does) just stopped videos for over a week now, I need to find another translator/Twitch person who translates the cutscenes and the like, but the story is superb thus far!

He went to Japan for a bit, but he should be back soon.

I understand the gist of what’s going on but not entirely (my Japanese ain’t good enough to keep up all the way...some of the dialog is beyond my reaches as of now) but I do get the gist of it.

I’m watching Salty too. Just to get confirmation that what I got from it was correct.

I’m currently in Chapter 11 with 60 hours underneath my belt. I think it might be my favourite game of the year (I know, we’ve only just started the year but I really do like this game and spending time with it has been a pleasure)

I spent most of last night doing the exams. I have completed all bar one. The last one is a tough one that mixes up every question from the 20 different exams. When you look up the answers on Google, the questions and answers aren’t particularly taxing and would be fairly easy in the English version. But trying to get them in Japanese is tough with a 30 second time limit and a reading comprehension that is decent but not up to where it needs to be to churn through it in 30 seconds.

Doesn’t help that the final exam requires you to get ALL 5 questions in the exam correct (unlike the earlier exams that only ask you to get 3 of 5)

The best I’ve gotten for the last exam is 4 out of 5. Done it a few times but always screw up one answer leaving me dry.

Pain in the ass. I’m hoping it’s not necessary to finish building out my attribute levels (my attribute levels are all hovering around lvl 8 or 9)

Also finished the business game. That took me about 6 or 7 hours alone (roughly) but was quite fun. Got my business up to the #1 spot on the ladder. And got a shit ton of cash in the process. Just shy of a 100 million yen to be exact. Easiest way to make money in the game by far.

Game is really damn good. The jump to turn based hasn’t hurt it one bit (I feel)

I'm going to be using the PS3 case to house the PS4 Yakuza 5 disc, then the red booklet for the 3+4 disc :D

I kinda get that, but it'd make more sense if it actually came with a PS3 disc... or a PS4 branded case.

Yakuza 3 and 4 had a physical release in the west on PS3, so hardcore fans probably want a PS3 case for Yakuza 5
because that was the original release platform.
But Yakuza 5 never had a physical release in the west ...
so do you want to produce a completely new PS3 disc with the english version now?
There are no old discs with a english version which they could use.
Does this really make sense for a company in 2020?
How many do you produce if its just for fans? Or you change it into a PS4 case with the HD Collection disc
but then the hardcore fans still dont have the original release case, they have a brand new PS4 case.
So i think its a compromise.

Sorry but random yakuza question please... Hopefully one of you guys know because I'm not getting any answers on the yak discord or from Google searches.

I'm on Yak 5 - If I complete the game on Easy, no substories, just bare bones story, will I get a Golden Gun or similar as a completion bonus?

Much respect.

Can't remember, but I don't believe you do.

You only really need weapons in the games for Amon and that's it (and I suck at fighting in the series as well).

You don't get a trophy though (you do get one for beating it on medium).

On chapter 3, Ichiban is at level 12 and I've done the substories thus far, plus have completed Can Collecting (SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D) with all Ss and have maxed out the bar; it's too bad Can Collecting is over very quickly :(

I see what Dan mentioned above about crossing the street; literally crossed the street and while I dispatched two guys with Ichiban, they MURDERED Namba. Then revived Namba, walked a bit farther and faced a bald guy at level 20.

He MURDERED Ichiban in 2 hits :'(. Learned my lesson lol.

Found a Golden Plate in front of a vending machine, so now I have some decent cash :D

Just a question for the play spot trophy; it appears I have played in 12 play spots, but the trophy hasn't popped; I do see that on the guides I'm using, certain playspots are lumped together and would that be why? 'cause if that's the case, it would be 9 playspots.

I guess it'll get confirmed tonight when I hit up the mahjong place.

Got my Yakuza Remaster Collection today. I have no idea what Yakuza 3 and 4 are about,
i only know the beginning of Yakuza 4 because that was the first game that i discovered in this series.
(i was so impressed by the cutscene quality)
Then i watched a whole playthrough of Yakuza 5 (just the story, not all acitivites).
I dont know Yakuza 3.
So a lot to do now,
Ret's go

Enjoy it, Tosh!

As I've beaten to death, I feel 5 then 3 are the two best games in the series, from top to bottom (and 3 is definitely the best story writing and usage of plot, etc., IMO), so you should be in for a treat.

Do keep in mind that the fighting has evolved quite a bit since the PS3 titles, so you may need to dumb things down a bit for 3 and possibly for 4 (4 was where things started to open up).

Anyways, played Mahjong last night and the play spot trophy still didn't pop, so I have no idea at this point lol.

Didn't get to spend as much time on the game as I wished yesterday, but will get to more of it tonight :)

EDIT* Indeed, Peter! Especially if you play in order, it will be seamless :)
