New Interview with Yu Suzuki - Brought to you by Shenmue Dojo and Phantom River Stone

Shenmue IV = The Quest for mark's lunch
Yeah screw Ziming or the CYM chief of staff or Rens Mongolian ancestry. I want S4 to focus entirely on what happened to Marks lunch.

Did the fish in the harbor eat Marks lunch?

Did Mark get a new lunch from Hokuhoku lunches or did he go hungry for the rest of the day? If he got a new meal did he have to pay for it?

Did the lunch float all the way to China and ultimately eaten by Shenhuas father giving him dysentery hence the dire tone of his letter?

This is a far bigger mystery at play... I believe that mark's lunch is THE key to the dynasty. Yuanda Zhu knew the mirrors when paired together create a map to the lunchs location. If yu wants to change the plan and direction this is the path to go for shenmue IV. Shenmue IV "I will have my lunch".🤣

This is huge….

I wonder why the trio will stop in Suzhou instead of going straight to the cliff temple?
Maybe another link to the chi you men operations as from what I've read Suzhou is like the venis of china no doubt big deals with gangs and trades like the long zha in S1.

CYM conflict I would guess is the focal point of S4, so suppose it’d need a city to exhibit that. Cliff Temple must be somewhere that some kind of finale or climax happens, is my assumption anyway. Although prior to this interview I thought maybe the Cliff Temple would be the opening to set the story up.

Goes to show how much further the story has to go.

Thanks for sharing the interview. It is good news that Yu San is still completely into making S4. I am not sure what the if we can find a partner should mean. Are they just looking for a partner or do they already have some potential partners they could ask?

Awesome job guys! Must have been great to meet the man himself, spending some time with him and picking his brain. It's good to see Yu Suzuki still being passionate about creating games.

That said, while I'm still optimistic we're getting Shenmue IV, Suzuki's comments on its status didn't exactly fill me with confidence. Of course I wasn't there and we're dealing with a language barrier so I have to go on what I'm reading off the screen.

Unless YS NET can find a partner that guarantees/commits to two more games there should at least be a plan in place to finish the story in part IV. As the saying goes "limitations breed creativity" and there are plenty of examples where creatives with complete freedom underdeliver. Not saying I don't want two more games, but I want a realistic chance at both YS being able to finish his magnum opus and the fans being able to fully experience the story in game form. If that means making some hard decisions and compromises so be it.

I don't even want to acknowledge Suzuki entertaining the thought of the series concluding in part VII. Even if funding wasn't an issue, I just don't see him having the energy to deliver four more titles of that scope given that each installment would take 3-5 years to deliver (just spitballing).

That was a clever assumption. Surely the CYM has to operate where they can smuggle their goods and a place surrounded by water channels fits perfectly for that.
At risk of being that picky guy, isn't more appropiate to say that Venice is the Suzhou from Italy?

Uh…. if the trio stops in Suzhou because a local gang of (ahem) thugs are being bad there some people may get mad.

More likely they realize they need to retrieve the Phoenix mirror from Niao Sun before she meets Lan Di at the temple and pursue her to Suzhou and ultimately Shanghai.

Well they'll either stop at Suzhou or something happens to the trio along the way to the cliff temple which makes them temporarily abandon that path to end up in Suzhou. As far as everyone knows the chi you men are held up and in control of the cliff temple at the end of Shenmue 3 we don't really know where niao sun went to after setting the castle ablaze. The gang idea was just an assumption as with 1,2 & 3 it's mainly been the reoccuring theme = gangs. Mad angels, yellowheads/heavens and redsnakes. I'm more interested also in how niao sun is going to explain the fire at the castle to Lan Di upon their meeting...unless she uses her manipulation tactics to say it was an attempt to kill ryo & co though the player knows different.

Hey everyone,

Tonight, I'll be doing a live stream in Portuguese about this interview, and I'll try to bring more people to the Twitter campaign.

I'm also the owner of the Sega Ultimate page, one of the biggest in South America: https://www.facebook.com/SegaUltimate. I want to help integrate the Portuguese-speaking community into the Shenmue community.

To the Shenmue Dojo admins: I am available to help translate any material into Portuguese or share any content on my channel or page.

I've been following this community for years, and I'm really a fan of everything you guys do!

Having read the interview (again) I think the ideal (I’m not saying likely) situation is S4&5 are announced and developed at the same time.

The games come out quicker, the story is complete quicker obviously, with presumably a lower budget than developing them separately, but was also thinking announcing the two as SHENMUE: THE FINALE IN TWO PARTS or similar could make marketing more appealing and draw a lot more people to it as a result.

I agree. They would save both time and money doing 4 and 5 simultaneously.

The only problem is that for a small team this could be a logistical nightmare keeping track of the continuity between 2 games being worked on in tandem. YS would need to hire people to keep the projects organized… maybe hire a separate sub director for each game.

Another potential challenge is the money could start to run out prematurely forcing YS to suspend working on S5 just to get S4 out the door on time and then (hopefully) the publisher allows YS to go back and finish S5 if 4 is successful.
