Random Shenmue III Thoughts

In fairness, Ben Judd said "two main areas".

It's been floated on here by others that Baisha will be a unique, story focused location that isn't quite the traditional Shenmue experience presented in Bailu and Chobu/Niaowu, or at least a much smaller and restricted offering.

And it's kind of supported by the inclusion of adjoining locations like the boat, the Great Wall, and potentially a forest area after Bailu that was mentioned in super early design documents from 2015.

The theory that Baisha will be a core story-focussed area, rather than a traditional explorative area, kinda makes sense to me, but who knows?

It is weird there has been next to no mention of Baisha since the early beginnings of development. Maybe it has been cut, maybe it hasn't, but one thing I know is that the game has been fleshed out significantly and Yu has already suggested the game can take up to 30 hours to complete (or was that a mistranslation?), so I have faith that if there has been a cut, we as players will still have a full-on Shenmue 3 experience regardless and we can trust Yu.

Yea that's it I mean, I am not starting arguments or anything, or disagreeing with people. I could be talking rubbish and any misgivings I have could be completely unfounded. I'm just looking at things as they are right now, and there is still a lack of information regarding the game in general. That's fine by me though, the less I know about this game, the better, and if Baisha is being kept under wraps then that's cool. But the other side of the coin is that if it isn't in the game, then it also makes sense that they wont show or mention it also. The current outcome has both sides to stand as reasons why. I guess the waiting game goes on for us all.

And if you look at Shenmue I and II, they both have what I'd consider two main areas, plus a few smaller areas.

In Shenmue you have Dobuita and the harbour as the main areas, and Yamanose and Sakuragoaka as the smaller areas.

In Shenmue II the scale is much bigger but you have Wan Chai and Kowloon as the main areas, and Aberdeen and Guilin as the smaller areas.

So the idea of Baisha being a smaller area, perhaps more linear in style similar to Guilin, does make sense. However, the original Baisha was planned to include 5x mini games etc. so if the achievements are to be believed the scope of the area has definitely changed.

The Karate Kid’s sequel series, Cobra Kai, is trending into the millions again with it’s 2nd new season. Maybe Shenmue III could be advertised through its videos? Shenmue III may even have the opportunity to be the Cobra Kai of Stadia in the future.

Cobra Kai season 1 was so great. Can't wait for this

Still surprised that we have yet to see Ren's face and no character model of Niao Sun since the early DC days. Wondering when they will showcase these guys in a trailer?
They may not at all, tbh.

Ren might get thrown in as a nod to fans, but I would not be surprised if Niao Sun is someone we have to play the game to actually see for the first time.

On the contrary I'd be surprised if she doesn't show up until we actually play the game. Reason being
Given what was revealed so far in terms of the story. We now know for certain that the beginning main objective of Shenmue III is to find Shenhua's dad. Can't find the specific interview, but I recall YS saying that she shows up very early in Shenmue III so to me it's a surprise she hasn't been officially revealed. Especially when her character model got accidentally leaked. Really I just want to see what she looks like compared to her DC model.

However, given with what you're saying. I think it's a decent possibility that we might get to see Tentei for the first time when we boot up the game! #mindblown

I really wonder if the NPC of the sidequests will react to the Things Ryo is doing.

Played S1 yesterday a bit again, and I though how funny it would if the Sukeban Girls would run away in fear when Ryo tries to talk with them after he beat them during the sidequest with Mai.

I think that possibe back then, because they react the same as before when you try to talk to them after the sidequest.

Maybe S3 will be more sophisticated in that matter. Would be cool.

I suppose it depends on how much of the overall scope of the story will get covered in the major promotional materials.

If it lays out the Chi You Men leaders as the "bosses" Ryo has to overcome, then perhaps!

Reading reviews of Day´s gone I thought about Shenmue. I don´t know if it´s a good o bad game, but I think, for sure, that a lot of Sony´s haters were waiting to the game´s release only for saying very bad things about it, taking advantange because clearly it´s not as good as others excusives games of PS4. I start to see too that some reviews try to tell that, even not being as good as GOW, etc, not means that it´s a bad game.
On the other hand, some bad about this game (and others open world) is that lot of missions are random and unuseful only for make it longer. That will not be the case of Shenmue 3, where all the things to do are for something useful. I am proud of it.

Literally reading Den of Geeks review of Days Gone and thinking the exact same thing. How the current notion of open world games is in desperate need for a change in format etc, and to an extent, it's true. Shenmue 3 is going to be open world, of course, but considering it's more microcosmic detail on the more mundane things of everyday life, it has a chance to be that breath of fresh air that this article (and various others) are hinting at.
