Random Shenmue Thoughts

Are there different prizes to get from a winning can? If not, is the cheapest way to get a raffle ticket from the chocolate/caramel/crisps?
Winning can is basically just a raffle ticket, which you can get with chips and shit. While those snacks are 20 yen more, it's a hell of a lot more reliable than taking the chance on a 100 yen soda. If you're looking for prizes specifically, buy snacks...

Thought so. I think you could use winning cans to get VMU icons once upon a time. I wonder if the new games will make it worthwhile to go hunting for the winning cans.

Yeah via the passport disk you could trade in cans for other prizes, don't think that's possible anymore but I could be wrong...

Yes the winning cans do serve a purpose on the Passport disc. You can trade them in for VMU animations of a ton of characters.
It is still accessible as it is all on disc contect. Just need to get around the dial up, wich can easily be done with the hack Switch made.

Yes I remember that, wasn't sure if you needed Dreampi to access... thanks for clearing that up!

How numb must Ryo's arse cheeks be?

Yea but seriously don't you need over 400 winning cans to get everything? I tried to hack the winning can value, with no joy.

I played both QTE machine up to 10 million points on slowed down Demul with quick saves. It sounds insane and it was insane, it took hours and hours. And even slowed down to a crawl, especially the boxing machine left no frame to waste. I was long looong humanly impossible to play this by regular means. I didn't pay too much attention to the inputs so I can't say where they possibly loop.

It's most likely they're randomly generated using a fixed seed value; they're the same every time but go on forever.

Well maybe I was a bit fast with saying "everything". There are a lot on the disc but there should be more. There seems to be somewhat of a mystery going on how to actually get them all.

Wondering if there will be any nice little features of Shenmue I & II that haven't been announced yet?

Yeah, just curious, im not sure myself

since the japanese special edition of shenmueHD has been announced, which will include all the songs from s1/2.. i wonder if sega will Flex its Muscle and get all the shenmue music pulled from youtube?

I believe Sega has done it before with another game. :cautious:

^ I don't think its every track from both games. From what I remember it said the two CDs are 40 tracks total and I think someone here said there are hundreds so this soundtrack only scratches the surface.

edit: As a matter of fact here's the full track listing

I don't think there is any chance of Sega pulling the music from YouTube. It would be a terrible PR move for them. Upsetting Shenmue fans just as they release the HD collection.

When I was much younger, navigating my way around Japan and China in the game was something I always found to be a little difficult. Remembering the names of locations without having to look at my notes was always particularly difficult for me as well until I started coming up with little jingles in my head, which often ended up being vocalized so that I could figure out where I'm going. Sakuragaoka Park, and Ghost Hall BLDG were the two main highlights of my shenmue jingles, both of which i can still remember to this day.

I wonder if other people had strange little quirks or things that sprung up when playing through the games.

Jesus. Anyone with a ResetEra account brace yourselves when the re-releases come out.
There's going to be a lot of hot takes and hyperbole running amoc.
Reading the ''Play Yakuza now of wait for Shenmue'' thread has been quite something. Thankfully there's a couple fellow dojo posters defending the game but it's quite ridiculous how gamer culture will just label a game as bad like it's a fact just simply because it isn't for them.
I pray that there will be enough open minded modern gamers that will see the true inner greatness of Shenmue

I think some will be open to Shenmue. What we also have to remember is that there is a rise in the JRPG market and Shenmue appeals to that market.

The target gamers new and old will realise the greatness of Shenmue for sure.
