Random Thoughts

Not exactly random to ask for advice/input on a potential purchase. I'd recommend just starting a new topic. Less chance of getting drowned out by shit comments from bellends who add colour tags to their posts.

Not to double post, but since this is a change of topic:

Have any of you bought wireless headphones, and what brand?
I want to take the plunge, but I don't want to go for yet another overpriced Apple product. The problem, though, is that I find few that fit anywhere near as well as theirs.
Any positive experiences out there at a cheaper prices? I've been considering Raycons.

So far these fake $40 fake airpods have done me well the past couple of months. Funnily, I was just taking them out of my ear into my pocket when I saw your post.

I'm not an audiophile but I do listen to music constantly. So, this budget option I recommend

Funnily enough, I just picked up my first pair this week.

A while back I was at a friend's house drinking, and he pulled out a pair of headphones he said his missus found at her work. They were left in the lost and found box and when no one claimed them, she brought them home. They were really.... Really good headphones quality wise and my mate started to do a bit of research since he recognised the logo on the side but couldn't figure it out.

His research led him to find out that they were actually Google branded headphones, and after a lot of online research, found out that a few years back, Google R&D set about producing their own headphone technology. Nothing came from it though, and the presumption is that they were too expensive to mass produce. Whatever headphones were made, they gave to their staff, and it's also believed that they are what staff use at Google HQ in various places.

After a long while searching, I managed to find a pair online and snapped them up in a heartbeat.

Sorry, can't help you with wireless, Nige': I'm all about fidelity and quality and BT isn't even in the same realm of quality, as wired (which is why they're still making wired headphones, unlike laptops which now come with SSDs and not HDDs, for example).

Seriously, true audiophiles (I strive for quality and excellence, but I won't go overboard like these guys) don't like Beats by Dre (Studio; the others are not as great, though Beats Pro are not terrible), but I still find them to be PHENOMENAL. First pair I had, I was hearing so much music that I hadn't heard before and that continues to this day; excellent-quality headphones.

Try to stay away from earbuds, btw; they have almost singlehandedly affected my hearing in my late elementary/high school years and since I switched to on-ear in 2006 (when I was 17), my hearing has not gotten worse, despite still listening to my music VERY loudly.

And aside from the iPod, Apple is evil; another company that wouldn't exist (or, be tons smaller) if not for the US.

EDIT* @Peter do they have a more muddy-like sound (warmer, "meatier," vocals and melody) or a more crisp sound (well-produced, loud, snappy cymbals and crystal-clear vocals)?

little britian has now been removed from netflix and bbc iplayer, due to blackface. Jeez... was little britian even racist??

anyway, this just popped up

Essentially, the entire movement is based around the fact that blacks, more than any other skin colour, are STILL persecuted in the US, above what is necessary, by police.

The whole, "well, all lives matter," and, "if you don't care about everyone, then you're giving importance to black people," arguments, are trying to include others in said movement, when really emphasis must be placed on how blacks are treated.

Absolutely, nobody is more important than anyone else, due to skin colour, however white people are generally treated much better by police; calm, no weapons brandished, etc., etc.

A shit-ton of black people have come forward recently, that they were doing something incredibly mundane and absolutely not illegal, when all of a sudden a police officer approached them (or pulled them over) and whipped out their gun, getting incredibly hostile and borderline abusive, all the while the black person was cooperating and not doing anything wrong.

THIS is the backbone of the BLM movement; to STOP this BS that occurs, simply due to colour of skin. Now, I know all of the stats about resisting arrest and all that, but it shouldn't matter; action should only be taken once things get to that point: de-escalate the situation, don't come out with guns a-blazing. You know, like how white people are treated.

Thinking about all of this, the absolute best way (in a non-brutal fashion, of course) this has been portrayed in mainstream media, as I can recall, is in Harold and Kumar go the White Castle.

Again, it's taken for laughs and it doesn't show just how far cops will go in real life, but that scene shows (and explains) how black people are perceived and treated, simply due to the colour of their skin.

TL;DR, BLM is strictly calling for blacks to be treated like any other, by policeman and not like animals or armed criminals.

"well, all lives matter,"
I get really embarrassed when I hear this. It's exactly the kind of contrary-for-the-sake-of-it thing I would have said when I was in my early teens, it's not like I was proactively racist, I was just so oblivious to inequality. Even now at 35 years old I struggle to wrap my head around how entrenched and institutionalised racism is.

If it stops parents and teachers from forcing children into it I’m all for it. That and decreasing unusually high suicide rates in those who would transition.

Still have no job. There was one, paying £20k less than what I was on before (not even accounting for bonus) and I was more than willing to take if it meant I had a stable job for the next 3 years. Blew them away at the interview to a point the recruiter was saying the main thing I need to worry about was not coming across as an over-qualified person who going to jump ship the second something better comes a long. I reassured them about this I was invited to speak with the CEO - more of a formality before the actual job offer.

Again, I spend hours preparing and get a text from the recruiter saying that have to "postpone" the interview and he'll get back to me Friday (2 weeks ago). Friday goes, the week then goes and I have heard nothing. Most disappointing is that I spend some time applying for a job similar to the one I left. Recruiter gave me a call and was just clueless. Spoke for 10 minutes and wanted to end the call straight after; no asking me to go through my CV, strengths etc. No surprise I didn't get a call back.

That's grim mate, stay strong.

Sorry to be very blunt on this but there is a constant back and forth I have whether the majority of the world has common sense or most are lacking it. As a black person, am I offended by a white person playing a black character? No, not at all.

I do accept that there will be some who disagree, but I strongly have no respect for that opinion at all (within this context). Where do you draw the line? Does Kratos have to be recast because it's a black person portraying a white person? Do these people even see the irony in taking a job from one person and handing it to someone of a specific race in the name of anti-racism?

The only social media platform I use is LinkedIn but it seems like the extreme voices of a seemingly minority of people are the ones that get listened to. How did this whole anti-racism movement go from protest against police brutality and other forms of obvious racism to this? Black people are not charity cases but it seems there are too many people on either side who think we are. The world pisses me off at the moment.

Part of the problem in the world is the vocal minority take over a message that initially starts out as something worthwhile/moving towards change & then rationality goes out the window. The silent majority who are reasonable and want rational change don't say anything and don't drown out the irrational minority.

I'm not even going to pretend I know a damn thing about the racism that goes on day to day, I don't, but what I do know (and believe) is that a person should be cast for a role because they fit that character.

A person should be hired on their ability and nothing else. I know it sounds silly but Tails is voiced by a female, Bart Simpson is voiced by a female. They were the best for for the job and hired accordingly.

The same should apply to any cartoon or game characters. If you fit the character, regardless of colour, creed etc then you deserve the role.

By specifically casting a person of colour in that role for a character do you not further drive divisions?

What needs to happen is these underrepresented groups are given the pathway and impetus to be in the same positions as others. That takes time and requires fundamental change.

In my experience, around half of clickbaity cancel culture/outrage articles reference tweets from trolls. Blatant trolls. But more people read the headline than the article, and even fewer still check out sources upon reading said article. All this creates more outrage at the absurdity of the claims, or the bonafied first class idiots actually agree and back up said tweets.

Rinse and repeat, you now have never-ending political faction wars, no matter how big or small.

It's like a social apocalypse machine brought about by the scourge of the Internet: ads. Nobody can stop it because the ad money is the only way to turn content into cash without the need for true hard work and talent. They pay just enough for it to be worth the extra income.

Meanwhile the "contributors" are denied the opportunity to develop their no doubt shoddy writing skills, leaving them with no feasible way of moving onto something better, besides giving up their dreams and ambitions. Dogshit reporters and brain dead journalists clog up the doorway like a swarm of slightly dumber-than-usual zombies, and you have an eternally growing tumour of non-news sites found at the nether regions of proper webpages that are often endorsed by the evil emperor Zurg.

So next time a website or service tries to make you feel bad for using an adblocker, tell them to fuck off.
